Ah yes, asking your community as Mayor to be conscious of thermostat temperatures during a heatwave, to avoid brownouts or blackouts… Communism. Not common sense. Off topic, but as somebody who remembers when eastern seaboard grid died during the summer. I wouldn’t want it to go down in this fucking heat. And these “hosts” seem old enough that they should remember.

Was at an event this past week and thought I was catching feelings for someone. It of course felt extremely nice in the moment but definitely lost a lot of its luster once I came back to earth and realized I was repeating a pattern. I think that since all of my past relationships have started with this sort of teenage love-adjacent feeling, I was under the impression that this is what love is. Starting to believe it may be slightly more boring (from a feelings standpoint), and I might just have to find someone else who gets that too. I think sometimes I forget most of what I already know because sometimes I forget to write down what I’m feeling (I always convince myself that the feeling is unforgettable but still forget). Once I’ve grounded myself and confidently put names to the feelings, it’s easier to see that infatuation can sometimes be a disguise for an anxiety that is familiar. It does make me wonder if I am second guessing myself and self sabotaging in the end. Guess I’ll only ever know

It looks to me like the 12v supply already isolates the batteries (some kind of barrel jack with integrated switch), but regardless I would definitely be charging them external to the device. I have a dedicated charger already so it would be quicker and easier to use that and just swap in a new set as needed. I’ll be 3D printing adapter housings such as this, so adding a diode into that assembly should be easy enough. Thanks for your advice!

Since February 2026, the XLAB large-scale network threat perception system has detected a new malware family active in cyberspace that adopts a Loader + Core (two-stage loading) architecture. Currently, the family has spawned multiple variants, with the main core functionality being the execution of large-scale Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks. It also possesses strong cross-platform adaptability and continuous evolution capabilities. Although the family’s current activity level and influence in DDoS attacks are not yet comparable to some mainstream botnets, its speed of technological evolution deserves significant attention. Research has found that the family is undergoing a comprehensive technological transition from C to Rust, and its anti-defense and traffic encryption techniques are also iterating rapidly. Based on the shift of its technology stack from C to Rust and the characteristic of early core payloads encrypting three duckdns C2 domains, we have named it RustDuck. In terms of sample propagation, the spread chain of this family mainly covers IoT devices, web applications, and enterprise infrastructure. The attack methods primarily involve weak password brute-forcing (Telnet/SSH) and the exploitation of various RCE vulnerabilities, including device vulnerabilities in Android ADB, TVT API, Ruijie, TP-Link, ZTE, and others, as well as web/component vulnerabilities such as ThinkPHP, Jenkins, YARN. It also combines several historical CVEs (CVE-2025-29635, CVE-2017-17215, CVE-2018-8007, CVE-2024-1781) to expand the attack surface. Overall, it presents a combined propagation characteristic of “weak passwords + IoT vulnerabilities + Web RCE”, capable of covering routers, cameras, Android terminals, and server environments, enabling large-scale automated intrusion and payload delivery. Currently, over 20 IPs have been observed participating in spreading the RustDuck botnet, with the most active implant source IP being: 176.65.139[.]204

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Sightings of humpback whales off Rio de Janeiro’s coast are surging as they recover from decimation due to commercial whaling, prompting an acceleration in the demand for whale-watching excursions to spot the huge marine creatures during their annual migration. The species’ population has jumped from around 2,000 to around 35,000 in approximately 40 years, close to their population before whaling, said Enrico Marcovaldi, co-founder of the Humpback Whale Project. That means they are increasingly being spotted in Rio’s postcard Guanabara Bay. “It’s wonderful. It shows that the whales are making a recovery, are healthy and thriving, and hopefully they’ll continue to do so,” said Marcovaldi. In 1982, the International Whaling Commission decided that there should be a pause in commercial whaling on all whale species and populations from the 1985/1986 season onward. Louise Raulais, who runs the Rio Ocean Club with her partner Theo Andrade, is among those who see the tourism opportunities in the whales’ resurgence. This year, the company began offering sailboat trips for between five and 10 people to observe the whales. Raulais said they always have a biologist onboard to share information, which can stimulate a desire to protect the whales and the ocean. “These animals are so iconic and charismatic that they have the power to transform people, to change the way they see the world,” said Raulais. Humpback whales are known for roaming long distances across major oceans in predictable patterns, typically following migration routes learned from their mothers. They feed on krill and…This article was originally published on Mongabay From Conservation news via This RSS Feed.

Medgar Evers (1925 - 1963) Thu Jul 02, 1925 Medgar Evers, born on this day in 1925, was an American civil rights leader who achieved national prominence for his efforts in fighting racial oppression in Mississippi, work for which he assassinated by white supremacists. Evers led boycotts against businesses that discriminated against black people, worked to overturn segregation at the University of Mississippi, and fought for fair enforcement of the right to vote. He also played a key role in securing the involvement of the NAACP in the murder of Emmett Till, helping publicize the events and secretly secure witnesses for the case. Evers was assassinated on June 12th, 1963 by Byron De La Beckwith, a member of the White Citizens’ Council in Jackson, Mississippi. His murder and the resulting trials inspired a wave of civil rights protests; his life inspired numerous works of art, music, and film. All-white juries failed to reach verdicts in the first two trials of Beckwith in the 1960s. He was convicted in 1994 in a state trial based on new evidence. “I love my children and I love my wife with all my heart. And I would die, die gladly, if that would make a better life for them.” - Medgar Evers Date: 1925-07-02 Learn More: en.wikipedia.org, web.archive.org. Tags: #CivilRights, #Birthdays. I’ve been meaning to do this for weeks, today I finally went through with it :3 Started out with staggering excitement, got out of my apartment and went right back in twice. But I pushed through eventually and all the anxiety just got flushed away. I was absolutely not prepared to get hit by one of the biggest waves of euphoria and joy I’ve felt since finding myself! I’ve been giggling for minutes on my forest walk! It just felt sooooo freeing and exhilarating. Such a trip… Awww, just had to share for once. Look at me, sharing pictures of herself… on the internet! Wishing you all an amazing journey <3

Trump wants to set a world record. Fireworks on Mall likely to cause hazardous air pollution, documents show Internal National Park Service modeling for the July Fourth show predicts dangerous pollution around the Mall and “very unhealthy” conditions across central D.C. The show, billed by the Trump administration as the largest pyrotechnic display in history, will include some 850,000 fireworks in a roughly 40-minute show… ::: spoiler Full text The show, billed by the Trump administration as the largest pyrotechnic display in history, will include some 850,000 fireworks in a roughly 40-minute show expected to start at 10:30 p.m. or 11 p.m., according to organizers. President Donald Trump will speak as part of the event, which marks the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. The combustion from large fireworks displays typically causes significant pollution because it generates fine particulate matter, also known as PM2.5. These small particles can penetrate deep into the heart and lungs, causing irritation and in some cases asthma attacks and other illnesses. A draft air-quality analysis, based on the National Park Service’s modeling, states that people should “avoid prolonged exposure” to the pollution around the Mall. The Interior Department and the National Park Service did not immediately respond to questions about the documents and pollution associated with the event. In downtown D.C., Arlington and the Capitol Hill area, where pollution will be “very unhealthy,” the document says that people should “expect irritation symptoms” and limit their postshow exposure to the pollution. It projects that pollution will remain at elevated levels for three to six hours after the show. The analysis highlights best, worst and most likely scenarios based on wind conditions, humidity and other factors. In the “expected” or “most likely” scenario, the fireworks show will generate 600 to 1,200 micrograms of PM2.5 per cubic meter in the Mall area. A worst-case scenario would see more than 2,000 micrograms per cubic meter. Levels of up to 1,200 micrograms per cubic meter match what have been recorded with other fireworks events but are nevertheless reason to take precautions, said George Thurston, a professor of medicine and population health at New York University. He added that the worst-case scenario would exceed anything he has seen previously recorded from pyrotechnic displays. “People should use the precautionary principle, which is to minimize exposures,” Thurston said. “An N95 mask would be a good idea.” He said that research on air pollution focuses on cars, power plants and other sources but is lacking on the health effects of fireworks-related pollution, as it often passes quickly. Fireworks contain metals, such as copper, that help to create their vibrant colors but are hazardous to breathe when they enter the air, Thurston said. People with respiratory conditions can stay inside during the fireworks display and wait for the wind to blow away the smoke, he said. The Park Service, in a separate document, similarly said that people should “wear an n95 mask when outdoors” and “remain indoors as much as possible during and after the show.” Another internal document designed to take demographics in the area into account advises Park Service staff to “not treat race, ethnicity, income, disability, age, or language as risks by themselves.” The fireworks are planned to be set off at sites along the Potomac River and the National Mall, not far from areas such as Southeast Washington that are predominantly Black and lower-income. Thurston said there is a greater prevalence of respiratory and cardiovascular problems, including asthma, in lower-income and minority populations. “I definitely think that should not be ignored,” he said. ::: https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2026/07/01/july-fourth-fireworks-likely-cause-hazardous-air-pollution-documents-show/

Depends what counts as social media. YouTube could very much be implicated as a social media. Reddit/Lemmy obviously. There’s a ton of legitimately educational material on both platforms. What about Steam? With chat/friends/community function, isn’t that a social media? Where is the line drawn? How well have these studies accounted for neuro-divergence in kids (something Europe has generally done a pretty poor job accommodating)? What about kids with certain disabilities that put them indoors often if not essentially always? Isn’t the isolation worse for their mental health? Is there not some point at which you really do just have to depend on parents being parents? I accept that some state involvement is necessary sometimes, but this really feels pretty solidly in the purview of something that should be up to parental judgement.

This can go both ways whether you understand both the original dub and the subtitle language that differs from the dub, for example: I recall watching a TV show episode where a conversation about a friend of theirs being drafted to war, but this piece of dialog was horribly translated: “He’s still a kid” as in the guy is his early 20s. The subtitles in 日本語 however, used the worst wording for this idiomatic prasing by translating “kid” as in a literal minor (子供) when the real context is more on referring to someone who’s 20 years old or above (basically equivallent to saying “young man” / 若い人) which butchered the scene since the subtitles failed to express that. I mean, do you know examples of a movie or TV show where the subtitles suck at translating the spoken dialog when it involves idioms, puns or even cultural references? Whether it’s French Dub & English Sub or vice versa (like English Dub > Spanish Sub & etc.) since each language has their own way of conveying a message.

Nuclear deterrence has nothing to do with nuclear reactors and everything to do with nuclear missiles in subs in the Atlantic. Also, the reason they didn’t respond was likely to not reveal response capabilities. They were betting the Russians are just provoking us, and they were right it seems.

I’m transfemme and post op. Yeah, lots of big emotions approaching that table, and I’m so sorry that they hit you all then and there. Take your time and definitely do not rush!!! Therapy is an excellent call, it sounds like you need to really delve into what it is you need. Be absolutely sure you feel comfortable with your surgeon. Be absolutely sure you’re ready. Be absolutely sure you have support for after the surgery as well, because the recovery really sucks. It’s not all flowers and roses on the other side either. My surgeon was truly excellent and did a great job, but I had a couple weird complications and a bad UTI, and there are some things I don’t like about how things turned out. But there were so many things and health problems I had that came from being pre op too, and it was certainly way worse for me before surgery. At the end, big and complicated feelings. Take good care of yourself and be sure to really get introspective about it all, okay? If it’s right for you, great. If not, also great.
