We had packed lunches every day for 10 years and retired at 40

Honestly articles like this are obscene. They dangle the possibility of financial security in front of the working class while championing just obscene ways to save pennies in order to keep people just wasting away their lives enriching the pedo ruling class. Holy shit capitalism is a curse on humanity and capitalists are just fucking demons

When will the all white home with grey floors trend be over?

I’m weird, but I like colors and real wood tones. It just kind of hurts me to see literally everyone it seems, live in this ‘aesthetic’ where everything is pure white walls and grey fake wood floors. And how this scheme has taken over every home, office, and retail space. I guess it’s the equivalent of how all 80% cars are gray scale now? (black, white, or a gray/silver shade). Why has color become so ‘offensive’ the past decade? It’s so bad that I’ve had folks tell me my blue car is ‘weird’. and my home, which is wood trimmed/floored with maple stained wood, and off-white tints in each room, is ‘gross’. My bedroom’s are robin’s egg blue, and my kitchen and living room are an off white yellow. I love it, especially at night when I use the low-temp lighting and it’s warm instead of HARSH. Folks keep telling me how ‘old’ it looks and that i need to repaint everything BRIGHT white and then put that shitty grey flooring over everything. I hate them.

Cuba Marks 40th Anniversary of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center

The CIGB is a beacon of technological sovereignty and innovation, President Diaz-Canel pointed out. On Wednesday, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) on its 40th anniversary and scientific achievements. RELATED: Díaz-Canel strengthens cooperation with China and aims to expand biotechnology exports “Founded by Commander Fidel Castro, the CIGB is a beacon of technological sovereignty and innovation. Its vaccines and biopharmaceuticals save lives. In the Year of Fidel’s Centennial, we honor his legacy.” he said. “Cuba needs you. It needs your intelligence, your dedication, and your commitment,” President Diaz Canel said addressing the CIGB members. On July 1, 1986, Fidel Castro inaugurated the CIGB, bringing to fruition a project that had been conceived and developed amid the severe restrictions caused by the U.S. blockade in place since the 1960s. “For a country under blockade and with limited resources, the inauguration was an extraordinary event: venturing into that promising discipline was a privilege almost exclusively reserved for highly developed nations,” journalist Orfilio Pelaez recalled in an article published by Granma. “Equipped with the most advanced technology and a revolutionary integrated working model that linked research, production and commercialization, the project was financed entirely by the revolutionary government,” he added. Among the milestones leading to the creation of the CIGB were trips by Cuban researchers to scientific facilities in other countries to study the applications of interferon, a substance with potential antiviral and antitumor effects. In 1981, six young Cuban scientists traveled to Finland to learn interferon production: Manuel Limonta, Angel Aguilera, Eduardo Penton, Victoria Ramirez, Silvio Barcelona, and Pedro Lopez. After returning to their homeland, they succeeded in producing the first Cuban interferon from white blood cells, laying the foundation for the country’s modern biotechnology industry. In 1982, Cuba inaugurated the Center for Biological Research, which later became the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in 1986. “After becoming a thriving scientific and production complex, the CIGB was granted ‘High-Technology Enterprise’ status in 2020. It has 1,370 employees… Fifty-six percent of them hold university degrees. Sixty-one percent have scientific and technological credentials, including 83 Doctors of Science, 233 master’s degree holders, 46 senior researchers and 104 Level I technologists,” Pelaez noted. “The CIGB’s patent portfolio includes more than 65 inventions, with more than 700 patent applications and patents in Cuba and abroad… Currently, 55% of its patents are in developed countries, 25.5% are in the BRICS countries and Argentina, South Korea and South Africa, and 20% are in other nations. More than 80% of its R&D projects are protected by patents, and 50% of its inventions are part of signed business agreements,” he added. How the US blockade of Cuba deprives people in the United States of Cuba’s life saving and improving drugs for Alzheimer’s, Cancer and Diabetes. As well as stunting Cuba’s production capacity for biotech medicines. pic.twitter.com/QScN2m6Blj — Helen Yaffe (@HelenYaffe) May 7, 2026 A Story Full of Successes CIGB Director Marta Ayala told Granma that the center is working on 22 innovative projects related to the CIGB-300, an anticancer peptide; PCB, a small molecule derived from the alga Spirulina platensis for cerebral ischemia; Jusvinza, an immunomodulatory drug that regulates inflammation without causing immunosuppression; HeberSaVax, an active immunotherapy vaccine against vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF); and the development of a tetravalent dengue vaccine. “The greatest challenge for CIGB workers is to continue creating innovative, high-value-added products and successfully introduce them into the international market,” Ayala said, referring to the intensification of the U.S. blockade. In a summary of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology’s principal achievements over the past four decades, Granma highlighted the following: * Heberprot-P, for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and complex wounds, is the flagship product of Cuban biotechnology. * Heberbiovac-HB, a prophylactic vaccine against hepatitis B, immunizes the entire population under the age of 25, is administered at birth, and no pediatric cases have been reported. * Recombinant human alpha interferon, including Heberon Alfa R and Nasalferon nasal spray, has been used against COVID-19 to enhance mucosal immunity. * Abdala, a vaccine effective against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants with a high level of protection. * Gavac vaccine, the only vaccine on the international market for controlling cattle ticks, registered in 10 Latin American countries. * Porvac vaccine, against the classical swine fever virus, the principal threat to pigs in Cuba, with high efficacy and a worldwide patent. * Development of genetically modified soybeans and corn with higher yields, greater resistance to pests and diseases, and improved adaptation to climate change. teleSUR/ JF Source: Granma – X From teleSUR English via This RSS Feed.

Being Bad

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ca/post/67210007 Charlie may temporarily have the body and intelligence of a human, but a polymorphed owlbear still has no idea how to act in humanoid society. Singing Cricket is doing his best to keep Charlie out of trouble. What’s going on here? Singing Cricket (retired adventurer), Kayra (young night hag) and the rest of the hag coven are attending the wedding of a changeling, the strange creature that replaced Kayra as a baby. Charlie is an owlbear that Singing Cricket adopted by accident while trying to protect a baby house. Taking a Discworld-inspired cue, the hags decided to polymorph him into a human and bring him along to join the party. The maid of honour, Sassy, has been unlucky in love - but she was quite taken by Charlie (almost literally) when they were introduced. Unfortunately, Singing Cricket’s efforts to keep him on his best behaviour are frustrating the poor half-orc lady. Love and Hex started out as a joke about my D&D campaign and turned into an ongoing rom-com/horror story. It’s on Webtoon and other platforms. Also [email protected]. If you want early comics and bonus stuff, there’s also Patreon. There’s also a book! You’ll find it on Amazon (just use your country’s site), or Comcraft.

Game Discs Deserve to Die - By Kyle Barr - Gizmodo

Summary by Brave Leo AI : Sony announced that starting in January 2028, it will cease selling new physical game discs for PlayStation, a move that has sparked significant controversy among fans concerned about game preservation and ownership. While the article acknowledges the emotional value of physical collections, it argues that discs are an obsolete and fragile medium that cannot keep up with the massive storage demands of modern games, many of which exceed the 100GB capacity of the highest-tier Blu-ray disc and require extensive day-one downloads. The piece highlights that the industry has already shifted overwhelmingly toward digital, with 78% of sales now digital compared to just 13% in 2013, driven by the impracticality of storing large files on discs and the higher production costs associated with physical media. Ultimately, the author suggests that rather than trying to preserve this “dying medium,” the gaming community should focus on forcing companies like Sony to improve digital consumer rights, ensuring licenses remain stable and ownership is respected, similar to the model used by PC storefronts like GOG.

2026 World Cup: Sheinbaum Assures That Traveling to Mexico is Safe

She emphasized that Mexican authorities are taking measures to guarantee the safety of visitors and fans. On Thursday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum assured the public that traveling to the country is “safe,” in response to a travel alert issued by the UK government, which advised its citizens to avoid several Mexican states and warned of theft and overcrowding during the 2026 World Cup. RELATED: Mexico Fights Stadium Discrimination for FIFA World Cup 2026 The British travel alert advised against non-essential travel to states such as Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Michoacan, Jalisco, Colima, Guerrero, Chiapas, and Baja California, citing risks of violence and crime. The statement also warned of an “increase” in mobile phone thefts and cases of adulterated beverages during the tournament, and noted that four people died in large gatherings. Sheinbaum explained that the Mexico City government will install more screens along Paseo de la Reforma to disperse fans and prevent dangerous crowds, following the deaths of three people from asphyxiation and another from cardiorespiratory arrest during recent celebrations. Despite the incidents, she insisted that there is “no problem” for those traveling to Mexico, especially in the lead-up to the round of 16 match between Mexico and England, which will be played in the capital. Sheinbaum assured that there will be a police and local authority presence to guide fans, reinforcing security in public spaces and reaffirming confidence in Mexico’s capacity to receive visitors during the World Cup. https://twitter.com/telesurenglish/status/2066345288495714469 teleSUR: JP Source: EFE From teleSUR English via This RSS Feed.

What did you learn by being DISLIKED at work?

That’s a very thoughtful reply, and I just want to apologize for implying you are a problem at all. Good that this crosses your mind. I’ve definitely been in similar situations, and sometimes I come away thinking, “maybe I was wrong here,” where other times it’s more, “they’re so wrong.” So it goes both ways. I really didn’t mean to make it about you. But my actual key learning in decades of work is about my own introspection. Recognizing one’s own biases and considering one’s own role in bad vibes is very helpful. Sounds like you do that too. As an aside, I’ve also found sometimes a situation gets ahead of its own skiis and it is very difficult to change course. I’ve been in workplaces where a group really hates me, and it bums me out because I can sometimes see where it went of the rails… but there is just no putting the train back on the track sometimes and it sucks.

Adding Eircodes (Postal Codes/Zip Codes) in Ireland support.

How the f**k does that work? Do they own it forever, or does the licence come up for renewing? More annoying, if you don’t use the eircode on systems that have bought it, they can’t find the address. My aunt has an account with Alibaba from around 2009/10. Recently (March) she asked me to put in an order. I did. The items went missing and then were tracked to Germany where the courier “couldn’t” move forward without an eircode… Couldn’t change the eircode from my instructions, has to be done by the sender. The items arrived last week. Her address had never included the eircode before, and items always found their way to her house. So now, the eircode has to be used it seems, but fuck allowing access to it without paying, because it is in private hands.

Oh, what was that thing called, ndiswrapper or similar, where you downloaded the windows versions of the drivers and then wrapped them up and hoped they worked, and good luck with power saving or resume from sleep. Don’t get me wrong; amazing that it worked even as well as it did, but glad we’ve got native drivers now. A small step forward every day and soon you’ll have gone a long way.

“Televised Nervous Breakdown”: CEO of Palantir Suffers a Bit of a Meltdown During Live Interview

Here’s the segment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI-0FKFfO54 He seemed pretty coherent to me. At times clearly thinking faster than his mouth can keep up but really no big deal. Pretty interesting how he’s fully accepted that there will be “a wealth tax” as a result of a backlash against AI. And how the CEOs he knows are “livid” about how totally useless AI is even after they jumped in boots and all, lol
