Dad uses a computer in 2025

Similar boat… 4 years ago (or so) that is all my kid wanted. For those who care, Roblox purposely blocked Linux, there is nothing inherent in the OS that would make Roblox not run. Took a bit of config but managed and my kid was able to play that garbage for a few months until the novelty wore off

Gen Z Is Cutting Back On Video Game Purchases

You’re thinking of Gen Alpha. GenZ was born starting '97, most of us are closer to 30 than 13, they don’t play Roblox or know what that is. All they know is eat hot chip and twerk and cry for a world that never was yet feels was taken from us while watching old vine compilations and being able to recite them word for word with impressive if slightly concerning accuracy.

How do we get people to read theory?

You have to also make it into a Subway Surfers level, a Fortnite event, and a Roblox “experience” so that maybe some of it sinks in while they multitask through the movie

Cities: Skylines 2 devs say they 'learned a lot from the feedback from the community'

Total tangent but you reminded me of it by mentioning Ubi and EA. It was the greatest insult when Bethesda announced their plans to create a paid-mod marketplace. Let alone the logistics of it, the gall they had, to assume that modding needed or wanted any kind of profit motive was just absurd. I used to create custom textures, models, and maps for SWBF2 way back in the day, and the Gametoast community would never had dared to charge people for access to their work. If I ever dreamed of getting paid to create game content, that dream was getting hired by the company whose game I was modding, not being a cog in some kafka-esque Gig Economy nightmare. I can’t even fathom Roblox at this point. EDIT: It was Valve, not Bethesda. I had it confused since Skyrim was their test balloon.

Buck Faszucki

Roblox is a game that ships with a game development kit and the way it’s monetized beyond monthly membership is allowing people to use the built in kit to build minigames and cosmetics and charge for said items in an ingame currency that Roblox gets a cut off. I don’t understand enough to understand the first part of the changes but the second part seem positive…? You can’t let people sample stuff that isn’t actually for sale and try to get sales via kids swiping their parents’ credit card for stuff that looked cool on their character but you’re not selling… I think. Just guessing but I think the first part of the change is to psychologically prime people to buy stuff they try on? Like putting a self checkout in the dressing room of a department store.

Any chance someone could explain what this actually means for us ancient pre-Generation-Roblox boomers born before Hurricane Katrina?

On Turkiye banning Roblox

What does Turkiye being a dictatorship have to do with whether Roblox is harmful or not? To elaborate, he is using the fact that he is right about Turkiye to obscure the fact that he is wrong about Roblox. Further down the replies, he blames the harms of Roblox on lazy parenting, because if you are a parent you can tweak the parental controls knobs just right so that your child cannot talk to the hoarde of paedophiles in the game. These settings have damgerous defaults because the suits at Roblox calculated that it would be better for their bottom line.
