Sober is a new way to play Roblox on Linux from the Vinegar team

This is really good news, glad to have access to the Roblox library on Linux again. I’m curious to see how the graphics compare to the desktop version. That said, Roblox is a scummy company that exploits users and developers, many of whom are children. Also, the chat filter and content moderation are poor, and they completely ignore the major predator issue the platform has. I don’t support the company itself.

did you know you can probably dual boot Linux from your school issued Chromebook so that you can program Lua for your Roblox mod? I didn’t! A kid taught me. Funny that you say that, cause our school locked our Chromebooks down so much that we literally couldn’t use the terminal or change 90% of the settings. Schools basically force kids to be tech illiterate by disabiling and crippling our systems.

Roblox is a pure abyss devoid of humanity and I wish them just the worst. Also I belive 100% that everything you wrote is the truth, but I also believe in adding some sources when the matter is of such a significance

I used to frequent IRC servers as a child (~age 10-13) and won a contest once that earned me voice (+) status for a week after sniffing out the most pedophiles in a dedicated kids channel. Was easy enough to do by running a /whois (or whatever the command was) on participants to see if they were also in channels like #dadsforboys and reporting them to channel operators (who were probably jerking off to us also). The fact that this was all perfectly normal to me by that point, and that I was so wholly unfazed by these types that I would sometimes fuck with them, is kind of alarming. I guess I’ll just carry that awareness going forward with my own children and keep them off of IRC/Roblox/whatever else might expose them to the vast world of internet cum creeps. It’s worth mentioning that I had a number of IRC girlfriends back then as well, and I suspect at least two of them were adult men pretending to be adolescents. I remember one “girl” in particular was from San Antonio and insisted her 12-year-old ex-boyfriend from Canada (who her dad called “Moose”) had already flown down to stay with them once. I guess I was next (not that my mom would have allowed that). However, I didn’t realize at the time that she/he was Hispanic, and eventually sent them the comedic “Mexican Americans” song by Cheech Marin in glorious .wav format, to which the recipient became deeply offended and stopped speaking to me entirely. Besides Robux, What Can I Give to My Little Brother that Plays Roblox?

Do you know what aspects of Roblox you’re brother likes (crafting, game building, the social aspect, etc)? For a more crafting heavy game, there’s Minecraft or Terraria (I think). For game building, Game Builder Garage on Switch, or Dreams on PlayStation might be nice. Unfortunately, I don’t have any good social game recommendations, though.

I’m just going to say it. Banning predator hunters instead of the pedophiles is really fucking suspicious. They seem suddenly really eager about protecting the privacy of their users when the victim is a predator. They suffer rampant pedophilia, so banning one person backed by a couple three letter agencies is a poor play. Looks Like We Can Finally Kiss the Metaverse Goodbye

Not them, but I think I’ve got a bead on it, assuming you treat it as a general concept and not a trademark: It’s basically the Platonic ideal of a game lobby. Kinda like what Miiverse was supposed to be, or Ready Player One. They were both after my time but I think maybe kinda like Club Penguin or Roblox? Like an overworld with a custom avatar that you can socialize in and sync into other apps or games together. It does seem basically inevitable, fast forward gaming 10 years and I’d be surprised if something like that wasn’t the norm.
