Roblox will restrict kids under 13 from chatting outside of games

Every other day Roblox comes out and pink promises they are going to ‘do something’ soon to make it safer for children. Until the government cracks down on them or they loose a massive lawsuit I don’t see it actually happening. My niece (who had just turned 13) was showing us the recent update changes she was looking at with Roblox and the chat features. If I understood what she was showing me it appeared to be asking her for her phone number to be able to access the chat features within Roblox. Why would Roblox need the phone number of a 13 year old kid? We looked at it a few minutes then showed it to her mom and dad who noped right out of that.

Roblox shares drop by 20% as platform misses target active users

One factor I thought might be at play is now that Fortnite Creative is established, the Roblox players that are aging are given a new UGC platform to move to. I know Roblox has players of all ages, but I feel like alot would feel like they have “out grown” Roblox and want to find something new

Baldur's Gate 3 'Isn't Going to be on Game Pass', Insists Larian Boss

Gamepass a service that lets you play games, but GaaS generally refers to stuff like Roblox and Fortnite–individual games that act as a platform to sell you things from. That’s where the flaws are. I’m struggling to see the flaw with GP except for the inherent flaws with paying for a revokable license to download games in the first place. At least GP doesn’t lie about you owning the games that you’re playing like “buying” them from the xbox store does. I mean, is Netflix flawed for offering movies as a service? You pay a monthly fee to be able to watch a wide variety of shows and movies, but you don’t own any of it. It’s literally exactly the same thing except for the type of media they offer.

PC Gamer: "I'm brave enough to say it: Linux is good now, and if you want to feel like you actually own your PC, make 2026 the year of Linux on (your) desktop"

Probably for the best, lol. At the very least, Roblox isn’t particularly good for kids. Also, modded Minecraft through Prism beats bedrock any day of the week. I’m hoping when my kids are of age, they’ll be down for an expert pack. My daughter sure as hell will be, she’s as weird as I am. I’m sure more normal kids have packs they’d enjoy, though.

Government Legislation and Regulation Is Coming For Video Games

As currently proposed, KOSA’s pitch on harm reduction policies come in a few forms: Establishing a “duty of care” requirement that would potentially hold social networking companies liable if they fail to filter out abusive or exploitative content for minors Ban targeted advertising towards minors Stronger default privacy protections for minors Beyond that, the bill is still in progress. It passed the Senate, but not the House, and it might be dead in the water, so there are no specific implementation details just yet. The point of the article is that legislators are aware of online “platform” games like Roblox, and they are aware that they are exploiting kids. So even if this specific bill doesn’t pass, regulation is coming one way or another. It’s just a question of whether the industry will self-regulate before the government actually passes something.

This is capitalism people. Hire a parent doula. Let them do the busywork of digital parenting like minding internet activity, scheduling playdates, managing ad blockers, paying the Roblox allowance, or whatever largely digital activity your kids are involved with.

Can we please

Isn’t the whole gripe with Pumpkin Spiced whatever the same with Christmas decorations popping up in mid-October? Like, its not fucking special if you’re putting nutmeg in my coffee in June. Same with the D&D / Marvel / Roblox / Whatever fandom of choice. It was fine twenty years ago when it was the New Thing. Now we’re pushing 100+ hours of Disneyfied extended universe content on Marvel alone. Half my “recommended” podcast feed is six C-list celebrities making the soy face in front of a pair of crossed battle axes. And my street is lined with shitty faux-bakery corporate cafeterias trying to sell a piece of rye bread covered in guacamole for $15/slice. Who actually enjoys this shit anymore? It feels like I’m being sealed into Disneyland, like a Pharaoh buried alive in his pyramid. It stopped being fun ages ago. Now I’m torn between boredom and horror.
