"Kill all landlords" includes people who resell thrifted clothes at a higher price

It probably varies by region but the resellers at my local goodwill are all like young moms and fresh immigrants who spend hours sifting through piles of garbage to make the smallest profit ever. I’ve never really understood why I’m supposed to hate these people when they engage in the mildest form of arbitrage around. Like 95% of it is going to end up in a landfill anyway, who cares?

Albania: Trump Family's $5.8 Billion Resort Sparks Massive Protests

Cross posted from https://feddit.uk/post/50646043 Thousands of Albanians have taken to the streets of Tirana to protest a $5.8 billion luxury resort linked to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. Demonstrators chanted ‘Albania Is Not for Sale’ and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, accusing the government of ignoring environmental concerns and public transparency. The controversial project is planned near a protected wetland that is home to flamingos, seals, and sea turtles. As the so-called ‘Flamingo Revolution’ grows, the European Union is also watching closely, raising questions about Albania’s environmental commitments and its future EU membership ambitions. Why We Are Carnivores - MD Anthony Chaffee [Lecture]

the evidence behind why humans are carnivorous beings. I address this from a Biological, Anatomical, Evolutionary, Anthropological, and Metabolic/Biochemical point of view for an overall picture behind why our optimal way of eating is fatty meat, in absence of everything else, including salad. I hope you enjoy it! ::: spoiler summerizer Thesis and definitions Carnivore status is defined by the diet that gives an animal optimal nutrition, not by survival on small amounts of plants. Humans need nutrients found in meat, while no plant or fungal food is necessary when meat is eaten exclusively. RDAs come from mixed-diet conditions, so nutrient needs can change when the diet is exclusively meat. Chronic disease comes from species-inappropriate food: too many plants, not enough animal protein and fat. Biological and anatomical evidence Zoo animals, dogs, and cats get obesity, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disease, and arthritis when fed foods unlike their wild diets. Human teeth, jaws, brains, stomach acidity, fat-digestion organs, appendix, and colon all point toward animal-based adaptation. Human stomach pH sits near scavenging carnivores, which fits meat with high bacterial load and meat preserved without refrigeration. Five organs work together to digest and absorb fat, which makes animal fat central to human nutrition. Humans cannot break down fiber like herbivores; the appendix is a vestigial cecum, not a fermentation chamber. Fiber, bowel disease, and IBD Fiber is waste material, blocks nutrient absorption, irritates the gut lining, increases mucus and inflammation, and overworks the colon. Diverticulosis tracks with higher fiber intake and more bowel movements, while constipation, fat, and meat do not track with it. Surgeons use low-residue diets after bowel injury because bowel rest helps recovery. Red-meat-and-water diets, elemental diets, and carbohydrate restriction fit the same bowel-rest model for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Salisbury, Voegtlin, elemental-diet trials, and fasting-mimicking-diet work support removal of irritating plant material from IBD patients. Evolution, tools, and isotope evidence Humans split from other primates, ate more meat, became taller, grew bigger brains, reduced teeth and jaws, and developed tools and tactics. Early pound stones and later worked tools were used to open skulls, access brains, kill animals, and dismember carcasses. Ice-age conditions pushed surviving ancestors toward animal nutrition because plants and plant-eating animals disappeared under ice sheets. Stable isotope work places early humans, Homo sapiens, and Neanderthals high on the food chain, often above other predators. The Tel Aviv work by Miki Ben-Dor puts humans as hypercarnivorous apex predators across at least 2 million years. Agriculture, skulls, teeth, height, and brain size Ancient Egyptian isotope work and mummy pathology fit a grain-heavy agricultural population with atherosclerosis and visible poor health. After agriculture, skulls, jaws, teeth, height, and brain size worsened because nutrition shifted away from animal foods. Crooked teeth and small jaws come from inadequate nutrition and oral development conditions, not rapid evolution. Pre-agricultural people had wider jaws, straight teeth, wisdom teeth, taller bodies, and larger brains. Brain size rose with meat and fat intake, then dropped when agriculture and plant foods became widespread. Carnivorous human populations Native American buffalo hunters used mass kills, drying, and pemmican to feed communities for long periods. Tall Native American groups, Mongol horse cultures, Inuit groups, Maasai, and Australian Aboriginal hunters are used as human carnivore examples. Mongol armies relied on horse meat, blood, and milk products, traveled without frequent meals, and built a vast land empire without grain agriculture. Inuit accounts include meat eating even during seasonal thaws, with little interest in sour berries. Maasai and Australian Aboriginal groups are tall, lean, muscular, and healthy before Western foods displaced animal foods. Herodotus’ Ethiopian account and Salisbury’s Native American account are used as examples of meat-eating populations linked with long active lives. Metabolic model Fasted metabolism is the normal metabolic mode, and carbohydrate eating interrupts it through insulin. Insulin blocks lipolysis, proteolysis, ketone production, and leptin signaling, so the brain receives a false starvation signal. Carbohydrate-containing diets lower daily energy expenditure by about 300 kilocalories compared with the same calories without carbohydrates. Glucose and fructose damage tissues through glycation, and chronic high blood sugar drives diabetic damage. Ketogenic diets have long been used for diabetes by removing sugar, carbohydrate, and alcohol inputs. Cancer and mitochondrial metabolism Warburg’s cancer model centers on damaged mitochondria, impaired oxidative phosphorylation, glucose dependence, fermentation, and lactate production. Seyfried’s metabolic cancer model builds on Warburg and links cancer control to mitochondrial function and glucose restriction. Ketosis reduces glucose availability to cancer cells and improves mitochondrial respiration, abundance, and resilience in non-cancer cells. Paleomedicina and Cedars-Sinai are used as examples of clinical interest in ketogenic or carnivore-style metabolic therapy for cancer and chronic disease. Plant defenses and natural pesticides Plants cannot run or fight, so they use chemical defenses against insects, animals, and humans. The University of Washington cancer-biology story centers on plant carcinogens and the idea that vegetables contain many natural toxins. Bruce Ames’ work compares naturally occurring plant pesticides with synthetic pesticide residues and finds the natural chemicals far more abundant. Edible plants are handled as less acutely poisonous than hemlock, not as harmless food. Cassava, almonds, cyanogenic plants, peach pits, phytoestrogens, soy, nightshades, gluten, and lectins are used as toxin examples. Hormones, nutrient blockers, photosensitivity, and lectins Soy phytoestrogens are compared with estrogen amounts in women, birth-control pills, and growth-hormone beef. Carbohydrate-driven insulin disrupts leptin and the conversion of testosterone to estrogen, which is tied to PCOS. Fiber, soy, wheat, gluten, and protease inhibitors reduce digestion and absorption of protein and other nutrients. Lime oils and celery compounds are used as examples of plant chemicals that create photosensitivity and sun-related skin injury. Lectins can cross a damaged gut barrier, trigger antibodies, and create molecular mimicry that drives autoimmune disease. Removal of lectins and other plant compounds through a red-meat-and-water carnivore diet is given as reversing Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and Hashimoto’s. Final conclusion Humans are obligate carnivores with one optimal diet: meat. Variation by sex, pregnancy, childhood, or individual preference does not change the species-specific diet. Biology, anatomy, evolution, anthropology, metabolism, plant chemistry, and disease reversal all point to meat as the optimal human food. Plants use defense chemicals because survival in nature is kill or be killed, and human health improves when those chemicals are removed. Sharestream - turn Stash videos & tags into shareable links with first-class social previews and embeds—without exposing your Stash

Hey friends, I wanted to share Sharestream: https://codeberg.org/sharestream/sharestream It’s a lightweight FastAPI app that sits in front of Stash and turns selected videos or tag collections into clean, shareable links with first-class social previews on Lemmy, Mastodon, Discord, Bluesky, etc. — without exposing your Stash API key or making your Stash instance public. Highlights: Short, customizable URLs for individual videos and tag-based collection shares Optional per-share passwords, expirations, and resolution Rich Open Graph / Twitter-player previews with animated WebP thumbnails for clients that support them, content-negotiated static JPEGs for ones that don’t Configurable embed policy: preview clip, full video, or dynamic based on size/duration Custom Video.js skin (also used inside Mastodon-style inline embeds) that fits any video to the viewport correctly on first paint Optional limit_to_tag safety—public browsing only surfaces specifically tagged videos Optional CW / age-gate overlay for new visitors Contact / DMCA takedown form Curated public homepage Drop-in branding Admin dashboard All viewer-facing Stash media — HLS playlists/segments, MP4 previews/full streams, WebP previews, thumbnails — is served through access-checked proxy routes. Direct Stash media URLs cannot leak, and full videos are never stored locally. I’ve refactored the codebase to pave the way for Jellyfin and potentially other backend support, but for now it’s Stash-only. I’m running a demo instance using stock footage from Pond5: https://share.lemmy.porn/ (100% SFW; <100% uptime). Password-protected tag collection example: https://share.lemmy.porn/HIMjx5Y (pw: shar3str3am) Full disclosure: development has been AI-assisted/“vibecoded.” I’m actively reviewing/red-teaming/refactoring—and, since last week, running it on a “production” gallery with 25GB/day+ I’d love feedback, feature requests, or security concerns from the Stash community.

Upset ‘Tommeh’ gives Canary’s print edition free advertising

The Canary upsets all the right people. Particularly, it seems, in print. The far-right hate peddler known as ‘Tommy Robinson’ has got a bit upset at being called out on a Canary front page for his part in inciting white-supremacist violence in Belfast. And in his annoyance, he gave the Canary some accidental free advertising: He doesn’t have a leg to stand on about the ‘smear’, legally speaking. Truth is an absolute defence and libel requires damage to reputation, while his — and no doubt his income — depends on his supporters seeing him inciting. And even in the UK’s corrupt justice system, there’s no way to say evil like this isn’t inciting: The whole of the United Kingdom is hitting the streets tonight at 7pm following yet another invader attack on our people. It’s time pic.twitter.com/tscckc9ceK — Tommy Robinson (@TRobinsonNewEra) June 9, 2026 And the Canary is not the only outlet to point out that he was not just inciting, but coordinating, the Belfast white hate riots. Like the i: And even far-right ‘msm’ rags have taken him down before, just as brutally: They are far right shithouses. pic.twitter.com/mmrQMALuCy — Andrew (@AndrewEgan89975) June 13, 2026 Of course, Tommeh’s mates might not be too impressed that he was (again) sucking up to foreign billionaires while he was doing it. But then again, they might not care. Only certain kinds of foreigners are despised, perhaps. Tommy Robinson — “Cry harder” And his post didn’t exactly generate much sympathy. Lots of responses encouraged him to get even more upset: Cry harder! You only have yourself to blame! — Duncan Still Socialist tired of LIES & Anger (@BRUMSTOKIE) June 12, 2026 Others focused on the truth of the headline and the article: You mean… the truth?? — Ren (@RenLaz17) June 12, 2026 And quite a few added the ‘patriot’s liking for foreign climes (and cash): You do have ten names though don’t you, protecting British values but changes his name and moves to Spain. The guy that has been an illegal immigrant, complains about illegal immigration. pic.twitter.com/JZIoJFp3LU — My Two Pence (@MyTwoPenceUK) June 12, 2026 Oh fuck I HOPE they did. It’s about time your grifting coked up shit stirring little arse got a proper headline. That’s MARVELLOUS. Well done @TheCanaryUK pic.twitter.com/XdD8W887js — Damian (@D_MQuail) June 12, 2026 Lots pointed out the cash, actually: Where’s the lie exactly you malformed little racist runt? pic.twitter.com/deFGhG0j7s — CaptainBird (@CaptainBird5) June 12, 2026 And the foreigners operating him in return for it: pic.twitter.com/NOrX6TgXi0 — George (@seeyouinpub) June 12, 2026 Some pointed out the, ahem, inconsistency of Robinson’s ‘political’ positions: The whole of the United Kingdom is hitting the streets tonight at 7pm following yet another invader attack on our people. It’s time pic.twitter.com/tscckc9ceK — Tommy Robinson (@TRobinsonNewEra) June 9, 2026 While others just contented themselves with taking the mickey out of him for not realising the obvious: It’s literally there in front of you, you bleeding imbecile — RandomHero (@ImMeHooYou) June 12, 2026 Of the many hundreds of responses, only a few were from people willing to reinforce the idea that he doesn’t incite, or is right to. There are far too many good replies to include them in an article, so if you have a spare few minutes, reading the others will be a rewarding way to spend them. And of course, spare a few to pop out and buy a Canary print edition, Monday to Friday. You can find your nearest stockist here. It really is upsetting all the right (wrong) people. Once upon a time in Whirinaki

Clare Ward’s book, A Place to Stand: A country doctor’s life in Hokianga, published by Allen & Unwin, published next week. Dr Clare Ward’s memoir, A Place to Stand: A country doctor’s life*, is about how she found her place in Hokianga, as a Pākehā doctor in a largely Māori community. This is an extract.* Whirinaki is a place in my own heart peopled by old friends. Most of them are dead now. If I want to see them, I must go to the cemetery on a Sunday. Except for burials, Rātapu is the only day sanctioned for passing through the gates of the urupā. If I want to find these aunties and uncles on other days, I look into my heart. They are always there. In my mind, I have written about a night in which a car stopped for a man. A man who lay on the road, groaning and bleeding. The car stopped a few feet short of where he lay. A woman got out and crossed the space in which present and presence meet each other. Something happened, and from that point on, her life took another course. This is not a story about her, and it will not describe the breakdown in her marriage. It will not describe how she flew from all that had been familiar into an unknown future. On that night, she knelt over him. Other cars stopped. A man came and leaned over the wounded one from the other side of her. He was making his breath slow so that the bleeding one, who was gasping for breath, could take in air, and the will of the other to make him keep on breathing, keep on living. The only thing they could do was to keep the injured man company. Then, a phone call from my colleague: “Can you come? I have a situation.” I am at home, and I am not thinking about emergencies. I am reading a book or doing a crossword or watching television. “What situation?” There is an emergency bed and a body, two nurses and my colleague. There is blood on the floor. The doctor is trying to put a tube into the man’s chest so that he can breathe. He wants me to put another tube into a vein so that fluid can be put back into the man. I take the man’s hand. I am looking for a vein. He grasps my hand and holds on to it. In that moment, I know two things: This man needs another human being to hold on to. I cannot hold his hand and put in an intravenous tube at the same time. Medical pragmatism wins and I disentangle his fingers from mine. I put in the line through which we will run in salt and water. The tube from his chest drains blood that changes from the colour of dark roses to a thin pink, the colour of pale rosé. As fast as fluid goes in, it runs out again. His face fades. He was probably gasping for air, but that part I do not remember. I do remember how he looked afterward, still and pale and no longer alive. No breath, no heartbeat, eyes that looked at nothing. The man is alone. His body is a crime scene. Soon the police will come. He will go to a mortuary room where his body will be cut up and analysed, where he will suffer another violation. His friend had fired the bullet that tore apart the artery from his lung to his heart. A stranger will open up his chest — and not just his chest, his belly and head too — to be sure that it was the gun and the torn artery that had brought him to this end. A lawyer will not be able to argue that his friend should not be charged with murder. This man is alone here. He is not from here. His family do not know that their grandson, their son, brother, cousin, nephew is in a strange place among strangers. I go to find someone who can do karakia, who can bless the man so that this whānau will know he was safe, that his spirit was protected. There is someone who might help. He is a patient who is here because his heart is crook. I know him. He is Māori, he is ahi kā. His is the shovel in the hāngī pit, he is the digger of graves, he is the knife at the edge of a kūtai. He is also a man who once presented me with a gift wrapped in newspaper. Whenever I look at my shelf with its big glass purple heart, I think of him. It is late, and I have to wake him up. He says that he does not have the right clothes, but he gets up and puts his sports jacket over the top of old blue hospital pyjamas. He puts on his slippers, and he comes into the room where now there is just the young man lying on a hospital bed. There is nothing else. He looks down at the young man and he sees his own sons. He sees a 28-year-old who has played his last rugby game, whose arms have built their last fence, dug in their last strainer posts. He sees a man whose legs have run through the bush with his dogs on the hunt for his last pig. A man who is unblemished and unlined with the whiteness of death. A man whose life has stopped in this world and is making its way to somewhere else. The older man is silent. Many moments go by before he can make the blessing, before he is able to let this young one go. I think about that night often. I never knew where the young man went afterward, what marae he was carried to, what urupā he lies in. I never found out the name of his friend who was angry enough to seize a gun, to pull the trigger and, in a fraction of a second, fell him. The only chance he had to hold on to his life lay somewhere else. Somewhere with an operating theatre, a table, a surgeon leaning over him. If blood could have been given for blood lost, he might have lived. Extracted from A Place to Stand by Clare Ward, published by Allen and Unwin Aotearoa New Zealand, RRP $37.99. Out June 16. See also Atakohu Middleton’s interview with Clare here. Dr Clare Ward, 77, has been a GP in Hokianga since the early 1990s. She still works part-time for Hauora Hokianga, Rawene. If you do, please put that content inside spoiler tags. Some people here may be watching Star Trek for the first time. #41: Star Trek: The Original Series, season 2, episode 5 “The Apple” Written by Max Ehrlich & Gene L. Coon, directed by Joseph Pevney. Stardates 3715.3 through 3715.6 (February 2268) “Just go on the way you’re going, you’ll find out.” - Captain James Kirk The Enterprise is at Gamma Trianguli Vi, following up on a report of strange readings from another ship that passed by. The surface of the planet is, for all intents and purposes, a garden paradise… until thorns from a flower target and kill one of the security guards. As they continue on they discover that rocks explode and random lightning storms can vaporize a person where they stood. An attempt to beam everyone back to the ship fails as Commander Scott reports that the ship’s antimatter has gone completely inert, rendering the Enterprise powerless and in a decaying orbit. Spock detects a very strong, artificial energy reading coming from somewhere on the surface of the planet. In addition to that, the party notices what remains of the survey group is being shadowed by some kind of humanoid creature. CIA officer arrested with gold bars accused of making up top secret program, sources say

David Rush has been accused of exploiting the spy agency’s elaborate secrecy precautions that strictly limit sensitive information around such top secret programs to only those who “need to know,” these people said. Rush is accused of creating a sham government contract as part of the program, the sources said, and inviting two of his CIA colleagues to participate in helping run it, they said. One of those colleagues transferred millions of dollars to the invented program, the people familiar with the investigation said. Because Rush claimed the project was an ultrasecret “special access program,” his co-workers would have been prohibited from speaking about it with other employees, the people familiar with the investigation said. They did not know whether the other employees were aware of the alleged scheme or were unwitting accomplices. Why they always do this?

Yes it’s irritating that society can celebrate the good qualities of men who aren’t physically attractive (sense of humour, intelligence, kindness, etc.) but has such trouble accepting that a woman who isn’t physically attractive can have worthwhile qualities. We can’t seem to compute when a woman decides that she has other priorities.

A new community rule for language model disclosure

How would you even verify “did this project use an LLM”? There are different ways, checking if a CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or SKILLS.md file is present is often enough. Obviously this isn’t bullet proof but it’s better than no disclosure in my opinion. disclosure tag doesn’t change whether the code is accurate, safe or good. I didn’t say it has to be a tag, what I had in mind was a simple disclosure in the post description explaining how you used AI for the project (or just a simple “this project is AI assisted” if you dont know the extent, e.g: projects that aren’t yours). I don’t necessarily have an issue with experienced developers using AI to write the code for them which is what I mean with “when not used correctly”. I do take issue with inexperienced developers that create privacy related software without proper knowledge of what their code actually does (AKA vibe-coding) and going around promoting it as “privacy-friendly” and “secure” while that may not be the case. Maybe there are better ways to go about this though, which is partly why I created this post.

Carney’s Political Honeymoon May Be Over | The Walrus

Well yeah, it’d take a while to get sand out too, but you don’t usually hear it in idioms with that meaning, lol. Is it implying then that people would just like, shove vaseline in their eyes and then act surprised that they couldn’t see? I guess yeah, but it doesn’t seem like you understand “progressives” in a way that would suggest they’re consciously ignoring elements of liberalism to justify a self-asserted morality (which they are). I also don’t know how you determine which is lesser if it’s all just cooperative evil. Liberals both historically and contemporary are fundamentally dedicated to the reproduction of capitalism and all of the social and material inequities which it depends on and facilitates. So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they typically promote or cooperate with fascists as a weapon against more structural, systemic challenge that typically comes from vulnerable groups who cannot benefit from gradual (and repealable) concessions in the way that middle-class labourers do. I mean, the Liberals have more latitude to do harm with a majority government than a minority one, which is what they got out of this when so many NDP ridings flipped or split. Also, by “something gives out,” you are suggesting that the decay ought to lead to some other system, right? Not just the continuance of this one (the inevitable consequences of which we are discussing at this moment).

It's that time again: I'm having trouble imagining humanity in it's current state as ever building a half decent society. My faith in humanity be running low

I see good people everywhere, there just aren’t as many opportunities to be a good person as there are to be rewarded for being shitty. Like when I’ve fallen on my bike, people have helped me, or I saw an older person trip on a sidewalk and the people nearby instinctively stopped and helped. I think it’s the natural instinct to help others in need, humans are a social species and wouldn’t have succeeded without this drive, it’s just beaten out of everyone by the pressures of our economic system. In spite of all the evil being rewarded, many people are struggling to make things better.

The Daily Check-in for Saturday June 13th - Just For Today, We are NOT Drinking!

Good morning, fellow sobernauts, IWNDWYT, 😁! We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together! Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same. Maybe you’re new to c/stop drinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others. It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, let’s not drink alcohol!
