Why bother with jellyfin, arr stack and everything else if free streaming services exist?

I have single server made out of an Optiplex 3060 Micro I’ve got a couple of Optiplex including a 3020 micro. Snappy little machines. I also have hard time getting them to even allow me to run my homelab (I’m a teenager, I live with my parents), because it takes space and uses power (for context idle is around 8W). Do a cost analysis. Present your parents with the results. Offer to do odd jobs around the house to offset the incurred cost of power consumption. For instance, generally speaking, that OptiPlex 3060 Micro running 24/7 in my locale would cost me about $3 per month to run 24/7. Which is pretty negligible, but understandable that your parents are concerned with costs and resources. Sometimes parents default to that boomer mentality that ‘I didn’t have a server when I was a kid and I walked to school uphill, both ways, in the snow, barefooted’. LOL However, when presented with some facts, charts n graphs, and a goal to learn a life skill, you might see some leniency. Are you hosting arr stack/plex/jellyfin? I do not run the 'arr stack, but I do run about 38 other containers on my Ubuntu Jammy server. I prefer reading to watching. Not sure why you are getting down voted, but don’t let it get under your skin.

Xbox Gaming CSO Pitches Ads in Games as "Affordable Alternative"

We recently reported that Xbox seems to be having some troubles, with significant layoffs and a 100-day plan on the cards to bring the ship around. Some of Microsoft’s issues include plummeting revenue, an affordability crisis, and low adoption rates. According to Xbox Gaming’s Chief Stragety Officer, Matthew Ball, ad-supported tiers may be one potential tool to help improve things at Xbox. In an interview with The Game Business, Ball addresses the rising costs of gaming, saying that “the costs have gone up way too high on development, and at the same point, everyone feels terrible with prices going up on hardware or software or microtransactions. That is a challenge. It’s not good if that is the only option.” He goes on to compare it to streaming, noting that the vast majority of new streaming subscriptions in recent years have been on supported subscription tiers. The comparison to ad-supported streaming services suggests Ball is mostly talking about services like Xbox Game Pass, where there have been rumors of ad-supported tiers, or potentially even steeper subsidies for console hardware—an area Xbox is leaning into more and more since Asha Sharma took over as CEO in early 2026.

UK election interference: new details of BlackCore Israeli influence operation emerge

An Israeli influence operation named BlackCore allegedly sought to undermine left-wing politicians and shape elections in the UK and US. The Canary previously reported on a joint French/Israeli media investigation into the shadowy outfit. BlackCore is also accused of setting up a bogus Palestine charity. Now a French domestic security agency is investigating too. Israeli newspaper Haaretz and French outlet LibĂ©rationreported on 11 June: Israeli firm BlackCore, suspected of interfering in France’s local elections in March, is also ‌suspected of meddling in elections in New York City and Scotland, and operating in Angola and Togo, the head of France’s disinformation detection service Viginum said on Thursday. In a second article covering another aspect of BlackCore’s operations, also published on 11 June, claimed: A network of fake fitness coaches, Vietnamese bots, Facebook ads aimed at Brits – and a bogus ‘humanitarian fund’ for Gaza. A Haaretz and LibĂ©ration investigation exposes a digital operation whose infrastructure leads back to BlackCore, the Israeli influence firm under investigation in France. Various Israeli influence operations have come to light in recent months. One looks at how the Israeli military shapes media reporting of the Gaza genocide. Another examines leaked documents about a military-run course for English and Hebrew speaking influencers. The fact Israel runs complex influence operations is well-known. Press reporting on the granular details is less common. Election interference by Israel Russia and China are often charged with election interference in the west. There’s no doubt both countries run influence operations just like the UK and US. But the new Haaretz report sheds light on how Israel runs its own. The new report: analyzed BlackCore’s digital footprint, uncovered a toolkit of influence-operation systems routed through servers in Britain, Germany, Finland and Lithuania. Closest to home is the allegation that Israel tried to shape Scottish elections. French security agency Viginum claims: France’s cybersecurity agency has accused the Israeli tech company BlackCore of interfering in the Scottish elections earlier this year by targeting the first minister, John Swinney. The disinformation detection agency Viginum said BlackCore had this year used proxy social media accounts to target Swinney, the Scottish National Party, and the Scottish government on four occasions. Viginum’s head of ‘digital interference’ SĂ©bastien Lecornu said: This modus operandi was not limited to municipal elections in France. It also appears to have been used to carry out foreign digital interference operations in other countries or regions, such as Angola, Togo, the elections in Scotland, and the 2025 municipal election in New York. It was previously reported that BlackCore targeted left-wing candidates in Marseille and Toulouse elections. Brillant added: Our investigations did not make it possible to identify the sponsor or sponsors, if indeed they exist, behind this foreign digital interference. BlackCore — Fake Palestinian charity?! The other part of the Haaretz report verges on the bizarre. It centres on an allegedly fake charity named Sadaqah Palestine, which: presented itself as a non-governmental, non-political nonprofit helping Palestinian families, children and refugees affected by displacement, poverty and war. The ‘charity’ had: a website with a credit card donation form and maintained social media accounts on X, Instagram and Facebook, and even had a paid advertising budget on Meta’s platforms. However: it did not have
any verifiable existence. No organization by that name appears in the U.K. charity register, nor in similar U.S., EU and Israeli records offline. Its social media following, our analysis found, was largely manufactured, including seemingly fake accounts. The charity’s digital footprint leads back to BlackCore, which has been described as: [an] Israeli “elite influence, cyber and technology” firm. Researchers described the site as: a honeypot: a decoy built to attract people who wanted to help – in this case, by aiding Palestinians – and to take donors’ money, their personal data or both. The cynicism involved is hard to fathom: The page pitched the fund against the backdrop of the collapse of official humanitarian aid in Gaza, noting that as USAID and UNRWA halted most of their operations, ordinary donors had to step in. And: It declares its location as Palestine; X’s own metadata places it in the United Kingdom. In its 13 years of existence, the account has never once “liked” anything. Followers were also fake: a mix of US-based ‘fitness’ accounts and Vietnamese bots. Researchers traced the page to BlackCore via: Digital certificates – the public, immutable record created every time a website obtains an encryption authorization. You can read the full reports on the charity and the election interference here and here. They offer a rare glimpse inside an alleged Israeli influence operation. This is notable of itself. The fact one aspect of this operation was to exploit public goodwill over Palestine is especially grotesque. Featured image via the Canary By Joe Glenton From Canary via This RSS Feed.

Four migrant farmworkers burned alive in Italy for demanding labor rights

Four migrant workers – Ullah Ismat Qiemi, Safi Iayjad, Amin Fazal Khogjani, and Waseem Khan – were burned alive in a car for demanding the regularization of their work at the beginning of June in Amendolara, Italy. “They were farmhands working in our fruit and vegetable harvests, exploited like slaves,” the Calabria chapter of left party Potere al Popolo stated. “When they found the courage to rebel and demand a proper contract, they were punished in a horrific manner: the gangmasters trapped them inside a car at a rest stop near Cosenza and set it on fire.” The event was caught on camera and expanded upon by Mohammad Taj Alamyar, a fifth worker who survived the attack. In his testimony, he described the coercive conditions in which he and his comrades were forced to live, including unstable housing, delayed payments, and the absence of working contracts. According to the trade union confederation CGIL, up to 12,000 farm workers in the region of Calabria alone might be exposed to similar treatment – which allows large companies to save on labor costs and increase profits. Read more: Outrage in Ireland after Congolese man Yves Sakila killed as guards kneel on his neck The five workers operated under the caporalato system, an illegal form of labor organization where intermediaries (caporali) hire temporary laborers on behalf of employers, often gaining control over all aspects of their lives. These gangmasters can deduct rent and transportation costs from the workers’ already low daily wage, keeping them in a constant state of need, CGIL warned. Potere al Popolo’s Giuliano Granato emphasizes the model is present not only in agriculture, where it is perhaps most notorious, but also in sectors like construction and textile production, spanning across the whole country. While the workforce used to comprise Italian workers, it now consists largely of migrants from countries including India, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. While technically workers arrive in Italy legally, Granato told BreakThrough News, they are exploited from their very first moments there. “To reach Italy in the first place, workers and their families are forced to take on debts. When they arrive here, they have to pay off these debts – only to often discover that the companies they were told about may not even exist or do not want to employ them, and they end up in a slavery-like situation.” The caporalato system is illegal in Italy, but trade unions warn that the implementation of legislation remains lacking. And when cases of extreme violence turn public attention to specific workers exploited under this model, rarely does the discussion address responsibility beyond the gangmaster level. Potere al Popolo insists it is crucial to move beyond this as the investigation of Qiemi, Iayjad, Khogjani, and Khan’s murder unfolds. “The two men who murdered the four farmhands were gangmasters who profited at the expense of these workers, but they were the second-to-last link in the chain,” Granato says. “Who is above them? Which companies did they work for? Which farms did they harvest strawberries on? We need to go all the way up the chain.” Read more: Thousands protest against war and cost of living crisis in Italy The response to the murder has also unmasked institutional duplicity, Granato points out. “I’m comparing the institutional reaction to the one we observed in Modena, when a 31-year-old man, an Italian citizen born to a Moroccan family, drove his car into a crowd, sending several people to the hospital. Both Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella rushed to the city.” “In the case of Amendolara, no one went. These four murdered farmworkers clearly do not deserve institutional outrage.” The popular response differed from the institutional one, although anti-migrant narratives and the short time allocated to organizing a local demonstration on June 6 likely impacted participation. However, in the general population “there was a great deal of outrage over this murder, over this barbarity – because not only were four people killed, but they were killed in a barbaric manner, burned alive and locked up,” Granato says. In the aftermath of the workers’ murder, Potere al Popolo and other progressive organizations are demanding a comprehensive response to the system enabling this type of crime. “Calabria cannot continue to be plagued by these atrocities as if they were natural, inevitable occurrences unrelated to politics,” Potere al Popolo Calabria wrote ahead of the protest. “They are not. They have a name: caporalato, institutional racism, class exploitation.” Ana Vračar , June 12, 2026 From BT News via This RSS Feed.

Trial of 12mph bike lane speed limit grinds gears of Dutch cyclists

E-bikes are allowed to go faster than 25 km/h, it’s just that the motor has to stop helping beyond that speed. Important difference. I don’t think that a general 20 km/h speed limit is the best choice. Maybe add tiers based on the type of path. Bike lanes on roads and bike paths without immediately adjacent foot paths could go pretty fast, bike paths separated from foot paths only by a line on the ground a bit slower, and shared foot/bike paths even slower. Maybe something like 30/20/15 km/h. Before someone comments “but bike lanes on roads are also immediately adjacent to foot paths”: Yes, but so are roads without bike paths and cars are allowed 30 or even 50 km/h on those. It’s generally understood that roads are dangerous and need special consideration so I’d be willing to allow 30 km/h on bike lanes.

Trial of 12mph bike lane speed limit grinds gears of Dutch cyclists

12 mph = 20 km/h or kph A woman told the programme: “This is all about cyclists on motorised bicycles, so I should think you would do something about motorised cyclists. Make a rule for them and not for all cyclists.” +1 Half of the issue is that many motorised bicycles go faster than the 25 km/h they’re allowed to, anyway, plus all the old people who don’t have the reflexes, eyesight etc. anymore to safely control a 25 km/h vehicle on a bicycle path. It’s very rare that people that go fast on regular bicycles are a serious issue.

Everything belongs to the workers

I really can’t see how relations with Europe could be restored at this point. There would have to be a revolution in Europe before that happens. And I’m just going by what Zelensky said when Blumenthal visited. They openly stated that they’re going to be shuffling Syrsky out by fall, and it’s clear the directive is coming from the US. It could be that Americans are hoping to transition to something like Chechnya soon.

My grandfather was 104 when he died and until he was about 95 and had a stroke he was still perfectly capable of tinkering around with his car and it still worked at the end of it. “Old” isn’t an excuse, anyway we have documented evidence that he has been been a gormless idiot his whole life.
