How many of you started using this site after being banned or shadowbanned from reddit

No. You have no idea. You’ve gone and created a persona in your head about who I am, what I look like, and a whole bunch of other based on almost zero information. I’ve come on, said a single thing you stage with, and you’ve invented the rest and created some imaginary villain to hate on the Internet. You know nothing about me, my family, my politics, who I volunteer when, what I do for a living. Nope. You’ve taken a single comment, where I disagree on something and extrapolated from there. The Internet and digital interaction is a wasteland for interaction, and trust me, you’re no better than the other anonymous monkey tossing shit. So again, I’m fantastic, and you have no fucking clue except whatever you’ve made up about me in your imagination.

Can anyone explain what they're actually thinking?

You can have swarms of drones that gather data and feed it to eachothers continuously, each making decisions individually and as a swarm, like a swarm of bees but million times as destructive, of course. But it’s just simply that 2 computers can communicate between eachothers so much faster and more efficiently than having humans in the loop Also this allows far better autonomous operation, quite like sending an elite team somewhere they have to operate with zero contact back home But yes, it’s also really fucking terrifying thought people have actually built these things and thought it’s a good idea

Federal government to pay North Dakota $28M for Dakota Access Pipeline protests, almost the same they received for 2025

North Dakota will receive roughly $28 million from the federal government in compensation for costs the state incurred during the Dakota Access Pipeline protests as part of a settlement announced Thursday. The amount is the same as was awarded to North Dakota in 2025 by U.S. District Court Judge Dan Traynor. The lawsuit, filed in 2019, concerned demonstrations against the construction of the crude oil pipeline, also known as DAPL, that took place in rural south-central North Dakota in 2016 and 2017. North Dakota alleged that the federal government caused the protests to grow in size and intensity by unlawfully allowing demonstrators to camp on federal land. The United States initially appealed Traynor’s judgment to the 8th Circuit, but agreed to dismiss that appeal as part of the settlement.

Cuba opens more sectors to private business

Havana (AFP) – Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Friday announced greater freedoms for small businesses across the country, as the communist government takes steps to liberalize the island’s economy in the face of a crippling US blockade. In a speech broadcast on national television, Diaz-Canel said Cuba would open more sectors to private businesses and streamline the approval process for new ventures. “For non-state forms of management, the list of prohibited activities will be limited so that their scope of operations is as broad as possible,” the president said. “A process is underway… to approve all pending applications in the shortest time possible.” Under pressure from the oil blockade imposed by Washington in January, the Cuban government has unveiled a series of reforms aimed at opening up the economy. Private businesses — which can employ up to 100 people — were authorized in 2021 and have become an increasingly important part of Cuba’s economy. Since February, they have been permitted to import fuel, a sector previously controlled exclusively by the state. As part of the new measures, the government will enable private businesses to invest in the economy on equal terms with foreign investors, after some of them recently left the country amid concerns over US sanctions. Diaz-Canel said the government was also considering scrapping state intermediaries in import and export operations. The president reiterated his commitment to decentralizing the economy and granting greater autonomy to state-owned enterprises, which account for roughly 80 percent of economic activity. He also announced an overhaul of the state bureaucracy that would reduce the number of ministries and trim the the state workforce, a plan that requires parliamentary approval in July. Diaz-Canel assured that the new reforms “will soon be discussed and approved very swiftly.” He also sought to project confidence despite the country’s mounting economic difficulties. “The country is not paralyzed; the country is facing this situation intelligently,” the president said, denouncing what he described as a “maximum pressure” policy from Washington. In addition to the oil blockade, the United States has imposed a range of sanctions on Cuba. The measures have further aggravated the economic, social and energy crises that have gripped the island for years despite its decades-long struggle against a US embargo dating back to 1962.

¡feddit grita tu RUT!

Venus and Jupiter: Conjunction from Avebury

To see Venus and Jupiter together this month, you won’t need binoculars or even a telescope. Just look up after sunset and you’ll find them emerging as the sky grows dark near the western horizon. In fact, on June 9 the two brightest planets were in close conjunction, separated on the sky by less than 2 degrees from our perspective. Since (brighter) inner planet Venus orbits the Sun faster than outer planet Jupiter, it catches up with and passes the outer planet along the ecliptic roughly every 13 months. But every three years or so their resulting conjunction can be viewed far enough from the Sun to be easily seen in Earth’s twilight skies. On June 9, the two celestial beacon’s close “cosmic kiss” was captured here next to the two large standing stones at the cove within a 4,000 year old stone circle at Avebury, UK. Larger than Stonehenge, the Avebury henge and stone circle complex is also recognized as one of the most significant neolithic ceremonial sites on planet Earth. Source>

World's first gig economy treaty adopted at the ILO

Geneva (AFP) – The first-ever international agreement on safeguarding digital platform workers in the gig economy was adopted on Friday at the UN’s International Labour Organization. The Decent Work in the Platform Economy Convention is aimed at extending labour protections to hundreds of millions of people worldwide who work through digital platforms, in areas like food delivery and car services. The convention applies to “all digital labour platforms” and “all digital platform workers… whether they are in the formal or informal economy”, according to the text adopted by ILO members. Until now, labour practices have struggled to keep pace with the dramatic shifts in the way people work. The World Bank estimated in 2023 there were up to 435 million online gig workers around the globe who had largely fallen outside regular labour protections. Companies behind the apps control the gig work via algorithms that assign tasks, set pay, evaluate performance and even fire workers. Despite largely controlling the tasks and pay, the platforms typically classify the workers as independent contractors rather than employees. This allows them in many cases to ignore things like minimum wage requirements, workplace safety and access to social security. “The ILO now has the first convention that focuses on the impact of digitalisation in the world of work,” said the UN labour agency’s chief Gilbert Houngbo. …

Capcom says shifting from auteur-driven development to team-led development is what transformed the company and allowed flagship IPs to survive for so long - AUTOMATON WEST

Worked so well for Okami. They closed the studio, then butchered a port’s ending because it happened to feature a bit of credits, and made an absolutely terrible pseudo-sequel without them, barely playable and with the creativity level of Dingo Pictures. Then they abandoned the IP for decades, and now they’re calling back Hideki Kamiya and his independent studio to handle the new one.

Zero punishment for Doge

And the premise of the question is broken as well. Because what good is it for him to become a trillionaire? What is it that he was able to do after he made his first billion that he couldn’t do until he got a ton more money? Nothing. Nothing at all. The ultra-rich try to get richer because they think that will make them more superior, but in no way could it possibly actually improve their quality of life. But we know that the money they stole from us fucks over everybody. And we know that the destruction they cause to our governments fucks over our children.

Any good books on conciousness?

Consciousness Explained by Daniel C. Dennett. A bit dense and probably a bit dated now, but I feel it’s a good introduction to the topic even if some of the conclusions he had (at that time) don’t hold up now.

Why are space shuttles always rockets, and take off straight upward?

gravity well The only caveat here is that anything in orbit is nowhere near escaping the gravity well. The earth is pulling on the International Space Station at about 90% of the force as at sea level. It’s just that everything is going so fast it misses the ground.
