A 23-year-old was arrested for gun possession. It led the FBI to a global Satanic cult

An arrest on gun possession charges in Queens, New York, in November 2021 has led the Federal Bureau of Investigation to a pedophilic, Satanist extortion cult that has victimized dozens if not hundreds of minors, according to law enforcement documents, court records and sources with knowledge of the investigation. Law enforcement discovered the organization, known as 764 and a range of aliases, while investigating alarming social media posts made by Angel Almeida, a 23-year-old resident of Astoria, Queens. On 12 September 2023, the FBI issued a public warning about 764, noting the group is “deliberately targeting minor victims on publicly available messaging platforms to extort them into recording or livestreaming acts of self-harm and producing child sexual abuse material”. The advisory is the first formal mention of 764 by any American law enforcement agency. The group appears to target children between the ages of eight and 17, the advisory notes, and particularly focuses on young people of color, youth identifying as LGBTQ+ or youth who struggle with mental health issues. Researchers familiar with 764 indicate the group’s members cultivate ties with minors through a wide range of platforms: either in wildly popular games like Roblox or gaming communications platforms like Discord and Twitch, as well as curated playlists on the streaming service SoundCloud. The group’s main form of communication is on Telegram, which has long been the platform of choice for many far-right extremists. Members “use threats, blackmail and manipulation” to get youth to record videos showing acts of self-harm, animal cruelty, sexual acts and even suicide, the authorities warn. The footage is then circulated among members to extort victims further and exert control over them. In the group’s channels, members share violent “gore” videos depicting torture, lethal violence and other such acts, in an effort to desensitize viewers to acts of ultra violence. The key motivators for the group, according to authorities, is “to gain notoriety and rise in status within their group”.

[News] Roblox support returns to Linux and Steam Deck

Probably the easiest way to run it is with Vinegar, a Wine wrapper for Roblox. Roblox layoffs hit 30 staff in hiring team

Video game creation platform Roblox has laid off 30 staff in the company’s talent acquisition team, as hiring slows. The layoffs come following a period of dramatic growth for the game, which now commands 250 million monthly active users - more than Fortnite and Minecraft combined. Reporting on the layoffs, Techcrunch said it believed the changes reflected a greater push within Roblox - which operates at a net loss - to focus in on its bottom line, which is heavily affected the growing sums it pays developers on its platform.

I broke up with my roblox girlfriend today

I was in a house in brookhaven and my girlfriend joined. I invited her to my house. We flirted with each other in bed and generally just had a nice chat until all of a sudden this removed breaks into our house. Her name was Jessica. I yelled at her to get the fuck out of our house but she calls me daddy and asks if I’ll give her a donation in pls donate. At this point I’m confused as fuck and so is my girlfriend, so me and my girlfriend once again tell her to leave but she just dawdled in front of our bed. Me, annoyed as fuck, decided to tell her that I’ll give her a donation if she leaves (obviously this was a lie and I just wanted her to get the fuck out). As she continues to dawdle, my girlfriend gets pissed at me and I don’t know why. That is until she started to rant about the fact that I never give her robux. She starts crying (in real life I think) and claims that I hardly spend time with her and that BedWars and Arsenal with friends is more important to me than her. She starts ranting about the fact that I never give her robux despite the fact that I’m rich yet I’m willing to give robux to some random ass stranger invading our house. I told her that I was lying and that I wasn’t gonna give Jessica shit and just wanted her to leave, but she didn’t really seem to buy it and she was incredibly pissed and angry. She left the game and I was just sitting in front of Jessica feeling guilty. I didn’t know who was in the right here and I left before Jessica could say anything. I was gonna talk to my girlfriend and try to fix things up, but it was at that moment I realized she had unfriended me. I didn’t know what to do. I tried adding her on roblox but she never accepted my request. I tried using SearchBlox to reach out to her but it didn’t work. Nothing worked. I had lost my girlfriend I had been with for nearly 4 years. Sarah, if you’re reading this, please reach out to me. I promise I can fix things up.

A lot of it deals with the fact that Roblox doesn’t pay you out until you accrue some critical mass of value. If a kid makes an app and puts it on Steam and it sells 2 copies, they’re getting paid for those 2 copies. Not so for Roblox. You require 30,000 Robux to cash out - which seems to be quite a lot, actually, considering the documentation I’m reading on their own webpage advertises this with photos that show 97,493 total Robux earnings from this presumably rock-star developer that you want to be like, and buyable items costing between 80-600 Robux. It should also be noted that I cannot locate any mention of a dollars-to-Robux ratio without an account, which I do not have and am not making, so God only knows what rate they actually pay you out at once you do manage to acquire your 30,000 Robux. The primary use case of earned Robux is to then invest them back into the in-game shop to purchase content that other users have made. Robux actively doesn’t want you cashing out and makes it as difficult as possible to do so. I’m personally not too upset about a game primarily made from user created content, I think it’s kind of cool, but the way they’ve tied real money into the process feels very icky and scumbaggish to me. My particular issue with Roblox is the rampant pedophilia and sexual grooming that the devs are either unwilling to alienate (since, presumably, this population makes up a not-insignificant percentage of their user base) or else actively in cahoots with, because this has been a known problem for many years but approximately zero steps have been taken to address it.
