Do some of the things he said here worry you? Cool. The US Constitution was brought up so just want to remind everyone in the US that the 2nd amendment exists. Keep something around just in case you need to defend yourselves from a white supremacist terrorist who breaks into your house.

At the risk of sounding glib, but I’m completely serious, the US state is fascist. It’s not about good or bad, it’s about the state cracking down on its opposition. And it’s not just now. Opposing fascism ‘too early’ in the ww2 period before the US joined the war, say, by supporting the leftists fighting in Spain would get you targeted for repression in the purges of the 50’s we call ‘the red scare.’

Homestead Strike Begins (1892) Fri Jul 01, 1892 The Homestead Strike was an industrial lockout and strike which began on this day in 1892, culminating in a battle between the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers and private security forces of the Carnegie Steel Company. Unlike earlier strikes in U.S. history, such as the Great Railroad Strike of 1877, the Homestead Strike was organized and purposeful, a sign of how labor agitation would develop in the modern era. In order to break the union at the Carnegie Steel Factory, Henry Clay Frick locked union workers out of the factory on June 28th. On July 1st, thousands of workers, skilled and non-skilled, went on strike. Frick hired the Pinkerton Agency to guard strikebreakers brought in via barge (the factory was on a river), but strikers patrolled a ten-mile stretch of the river to prevent them from making it to the factory. On July 6th, the Pinkertons attempted to land under cover of darkness around four in the morning, however thousands of striking workers and sympathizers were waiting for them on the riverbank. When the agents tried to land, gunfire erupted, killing four people and injuring twenty-three on both sides. The Pinkertons surrendered, and many were beaten unconscious after leaving the boat. The strike was forcibly put down by state militia, resulting in a defeat for the workers. The Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers collapsed, and its workers returned in August. For his role in breaking the union, anarchists Alexander Berkman and Emma Goldman unsuccessfully attempted to assassinate Henry Clay Frick. Date: 1892-07-01 Learn More: en.wikipedia.org, aflcio.org. Palm oil is a butter substitute. Every baked product at the grocery store that used to be made with butter is now made with palm oil, because it is cheaper. Palm oil is made up of long highly-saturated fatty acids that cause it to be solid at room temperature, giving it physical properties very similar to butter, making it suitable as a substitute. However saturated fatty acids are bad for your health. Butter is also saturated fat and is also somewhat bad, but palm oil is much worse because the varieties of fatty acids it contains are much different from animal fat fatty acids and the human body metabolizes them differently, so they have a much higher impact. Similar physical properties but worse health properties! It is nearly impossible to find frozen baked goods that are still made with butter. This pie claims to be made with healthy ingredients, and specifically touts its butter content, but it conveniently omits mentioning palm oil entirely. Since palm oil appears first on the ingredients list before butter, that means there is more of it. Possibly almost the entire “butter-like” fraction of the pie consists of palm oil. This pie alone contains 400% daily value saturated fat, which is terrible for long-term health. I love apple pies and I was planning to eat this pie as my sole food over the course of 2 days for my One-Meal-A-Day (OMAD), but I’m not willing to risk eating palm oil. Thanks for nothing for getting my hopes up, pie box! traditional wholesome German ingredients like palm oil palm oil - just the way grandma used to make at home contains memories of butter I’m sure someone below will mention how palm oil is also bad for the environment and bad for the farmers and bad for the economy. I will only be answering questions about the film Rampart.

Basically the government guaranteed loans to college kids, saying you can’t be denied a loan. The idea was to allow anyone the means to better themselves through an education. Then colleges realized they could raise prices to whatever they wanted and the loans would get approved. Remember you can’t deny someone a loan for college anymore, they don’t check if the prices are “reasonable”. I’m sure there’s more nuance and other factors to it.

There’s far more competition in television now than in the era of regular 20+ episodes a season shows. There’s simply more TV shows, and thus more options for audiences. That’s a situation largely of Netflix’s own making. There was a time when they were the only game in town for streaming movies and TV shows. They had the opportunity to build a gargantuan and loyal subscriber base and they blew it. Their decline is what opened the door to all this competition. You might be happy with all this competition but then why are we even here for this discussion? It’s clear that too much competition has led to most shows dying prematurely. Audiences also expect higher CGI quality than you would usually get in 20 episodes a season shows. Star Trek TNG’s show runners knew how to deal with this: you don’t use the same budget for every episode. Some episodes get a big budget, others get a small one. The latter were called bottle shows and they turned out to be some of the best episodes in Star Trek history because they had no effects budget so they had to rely entirely on writing, acting, and editing.

What they wanted to do wasn’t “be alone in their bedroom”, it was “partake in the common social activity their peers are engaged in” (i.e hanging out online together). The part where they snuck away to my (or whatever) place happened rarely. A lot of the time they were just idk bored I suppose. You could argue that hanging out online is worthless and a waste of time or whatever and in that case we’re both hypocrites for chatting away here. I think it’s a reductive and bordering on some flavor of dehumanizing (kids are people with internality too) to look at the resentment people can feel towards their parents for this kind of thing (some even into adulthood mind you since it’s part of a larger parenting pattern) and go “ah well kids get upset over silly things they are too naive and stupid to be thankful for all the time” Sorry if I’m putting words in your mouth, it is not my intent at all, and I’m trying not to characterize you stance as some boomer “pain builds character” thing because I don’t believe that’s where you’re coming from. It’s just that these lines of reasoning can stray dangerously close to that which doesn’t sit well with me.

I think you answered your own question. The human nervous system to way too complex to unwire and rewire and the body can’t survive without the brain while that’s happening. Same brain, new body? Maybe one day. Same body, new brain? Probably never. Even if you swap the brain, how do you transfer the mind?

Just another distro-hopper thinking they’re getting a solution by hopping. If I had to do Linux again, it would be Arch. -It never took more than 10 minutes to fix, while Fedora wasn’t fixable. Fedora’s breakages were drastic work-flow changing. It forced Wayland while disallowing Hyprland. Forced Pipewire breaking ac3 pass-through before Pipewire was ready, and I learned to live with Pulse. It repeatedly made dependencies for apps I used daily; break. Fedora is a Guinea pig distro and he’s a fool.
