How to manipulate individual vertices?

Newbie here. FreeCAD is v1.1.1 Is there really no way to do simple manual vertices manipulation? Coming from Wings3D. Found the Fase feature (PartDesign_Chamfer) which is a good start for my usual extrude/bevel workflow but I can not for my life find out how to manually select and move vertexes manually / individually. I learned about converting a part into a mesh but even here I seem to not have the option to move vertices around freely? Do I really have to go down to a 2D drawing first and work from there?

The Three-Decade Long War... You Never Heard About

If you’re just going to sit around reading posts online all night, why not go through Historic.ly? All very dope they are just too busy to write a lot. ::: spoiler [2019-12-02] Historic.ly Archeological records show that the first nations in the Andes have grown, used, and cultivated coca for over 3000 years. The Incan empire, which had a very sophisticated system of knots to keep records, have records and methodology for the cultivation of the coca crops. The Incan Empire even awed the Spanish with their engineering feats. The Incans built roads that covered over 40,000 kM. It stretched from what is now modern-day Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina. With these extensive road systems, they were able to bring infrastructure such as irrigation, sewage, and plumbing to even the most remote village located in the Andes. These coca crops were used in religious ceremonies and for medicinal purposes. It made it easier for members of the Incan empire to handle the high-altitude of the Andes. Every part of this crop was used. Contrary to the popular myth, Francisco Pizzaro and his gang of 300 men with horses did not single-handedly defeat the Incan empire. The Incans had built their empire through conquest of other nations. The Spanish conquistadores, who happened to be very lucky, as they formed an alliance with local rebellions, marched towards the Incan empire. Pizarro offered his army of 300 men with Spanish-made weapons. The leader of the uprising Huayna Capac accepted this deal. As it was common in those days, military alliances were sealed with a marriage. Pizzaro married his daughter Quispe Sisa. After he and the rebel groups conquered Lima, he inherited the title of royalty. Oddly enough, even the Spaniards don’t deny this reality. Inside the Library of Seville, there are records of the court transcripts between Queen Isabel and Pizzaro. Queen Isabel refuses to pay Pizzaro his bounty because he didn’t fulfill his duties. She reasoned, “you didn’t conquer it for Spain.” Eventually, the Spanish, after the murder of Pizzaro, were able to establish a colonial government in 1554 CE. At this point, they brought with them the rigid catholic priests to mass convert the various nations within the former Incan empire to Christianity. From the Catholic priests’ point of view, the coca plant had “magical powers,” begotten from the devil, that made the first nations hard to subdue. They declared that the Coca plan was indeed an invention of the devil and called for total destruction. 400 years later, the Aymara and Quechua in Bolivia were fighting against a new colonizer: USA. In an eerie similarity to the catholic priests from Spain, the leader, Ronald Reagan, also called it a “crusade,” and he, too, wanted to eradicate the coca plant among the first nations. In their continuing tradition, Bolivians use coca for its various medicinal and numbing properties. There is coca tea for altitude sickness, ointments for pain relief, and even liquor. Unlike the industrial cash crops, a poor Campesino could grow coca: Coca can be harvested in four months. Almost all of the cultivation is in labor costs and not tools or machinery Ronald Reagan and his band of crusaders declared that crack/cocaine was the work of the devil. They embarked on a second wave of destruction of the coca plant. But, they ignorantly equated coca leaves to cocaine. It requires a drug processing center with fancy chemicals to convert it into a Cocaine Hydrochloride molecule and then to make the cocaine hydrochloride to a useable form. Eradicating coca is the quixotic equivalent of eradicating potatoes to curb the production of Vodka. In Bolivia, the War on Drugs was not metaphorical. Ronald Reagan dispatched the marines to wage an aggressive military campaign on the Andes. The US sent the military in, citing “National Security” However, that became quickly unpopular and so the US decided to only send in the DEA for more “discreteness.” In 1987, by presidential decree and US pressure, Bolivia created the Special Anti-Drug Trafficking Force (Fuerza Especial de Lucha Contra el Narcotráfico - FELCN). However, they were trained, lead, directed and supervised by the DEA. The DEA also participated in many stings and raids in Bolivia. Later, in July 1988, Bolivian parliament created the notorious Law 1008 that granted extensive powers to the FELCN. The FELCN carried out “judicial investigations” in drug cases. Also, the FECLN’s reports carried the weight of legally constituting proof in front of a judge. For example, the report written by a FECLN would be equivalent to having a videotape of the offense in the eyes of the court. According to the Andean Information Network The law also characterized narcotrafficking as a “crime against humanity,” and criminalized a wide range of drug-related activities, including manufacturing, distribution and sale. Under the original terms of the law, Bolivians charged with drug offenses – no matter how minor – were imprisoned without the possibility of pre-trial release. If acquitted, they remained in prison until the Supreme Court reviewed the trial court’s decision — a process that took years. The law presumed the guilt of the accused; did not allow the accused to fully exercise their right to legal defense; prohibited bail or provisional liberty; and established an excessively long judicial process. Some of the rigid terms of Law 1008 were in direct conflict with rights guaranteed in the Bolivian Constitution. However, the real crime against humanity was the way in which both FECLN and the DEA treated the Campesinos. Jaime Malamud Goti, an advisor to the Argentine President Alfonsin, traveled through these areas reported the following: At a high, inhospitable cold spot in the mountains between Cochabamba and the coca plantations, there is a police checkpoint where vehicles are thoroughly searched for the tools used in the manufacture of cocaine paste. Presumably, to satisfy my curiosity, the police officer in charge ushered me into the shed where they stored the seized items. Among those articles stored in the depot were those of the most common nature: toilet paper, kerosene lanterns, plastic sheets and car batteries. According to the policeman, these articles are essential to the illicit drug industry. The kerosene in the lanterns, for instance, is a good solvent to detach the cocaine contained in the coca leaves. Toilet paper is used to dry the paste. Somehow my memory got caught in that police shed. An enforcement campaign that required the interdiction of toilet paper seemed not only an intrusion into the basic needs of the inhabitants of the Chapare, but also doomed to fail from its inception. He further went onto observe, “The Bolivian enforcement agencies have targeted this peasant population as their primary (and easiest) target for eradicating the cocaine problem; a group that has already endured violence, harassment and pillage. This situation is not only condoned by the DEA but is encouraged by them. For an overgrown bureaucracy like the DEA, chasing coca growers is also the easiest way to make convincing statistics in the furtherance of sectoral and personal advantages.” After Ronald Reagan, George Herbert Walker Bush, merely amplified this war on the campesinos. He sent more DEA agents into Bolivia and the DEA agents were willing participants in the torture and abuse of the Campesinos. One victim told ANI: So, they asked me questions and when I didn’t give the answers they wanted and they didn’t accept the statement that I had already made, they started to beat me. The lieutenant kicked me and punched me, the gringo hit me on the head with a stick and the butt of his pistol. He said: ‘These people are used to these things and that’s why they deny it.’ When I continued to deny everything, they applied an electric current to my testicles. I couldn’t take any more, I had to accept. Even though I read what the report said, I had to sign, because I couldn’t take any more torture" This wasn’t all! The DEA agents burned the homes of Campesinos, accusing them of having “primitive chemical facilities.” They gang-raped many of the Campesino women, wantonly shot them. This was the war on the poor. Worst of all, the DEA often bombed roads leading in and out of these remote villages because they were afraid that these would be used as airstrips for planes. Ironically, the streets and infrastructure that the Incas built needed 500 years to be destroyed by the war on drugs. On top of that, the DEA agents enjoyed complete impunity for their actions in Bolivia. In 1994, Human Rights Watch asked the State Department on why DEA agents did not report violations of human rights as they were required to do so. The State Department responded with, “ DEA agents are guests in the country" are “not responsible for making criticisms.” While hundreds of Bolivians made claims of abuse by the DEA. Both officials in the US government and the cronies in corporate media have mocked these claims. During her confirmation hearing, Hillary Clinton claimed“fear-mongering propagated by [Venezuelan President Hugo] Chavez and Evo Morales.” I have a sincere question and please respond in the comments. Why have we, as US Citizens, not done more to hold officials who do horrible things in our name responsible? How do we end this culture of impunity? The chicken always comes home to roost. At home, we can’t get police convicted regardless of how many video tapes we have of them shooting people. We can’t touch senators, congressional representatives and of course let’s not forget about the white house! We are left with the consequence of not holding the powerful responsible. More than 15,000 undocumented Malawian nationals processed at eThekwini repatriation site

“Facility at capacity” :( “health & safety risks” :(( ::: spoiler [2026-06-30] South African Govt. News Agency More than 15 000 undocumented Malawian nationals had been processed at the temporary Durban Drive-In repatriation site in eThekwini before operations were relocated to Musina in Limpopo. Since early June, eThekwini Municipality has provided humanitarian assistance to undocumented Malawian nationals in line with its constitutional and humanitarian responsibilities. In a statement on Monday, eThekwini Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba said the city had closed the temporary Durban Drive-In repatriation site, following the relocation of undocumented Malawian nationals to Musina. The individuals were initially accommodated in Sherwood before being moved to the Durban Drive-In site to improve operational efficiency. The relocation followed concerns that the Sherwood facility had reached capacity, creating potential health and safety risks. The larger Drive-In site enabled the government to improve processing while providing more suitable temporary accommodation. “The repatriation operation gained momentum after the Department of Home Affairs and the Government of Malawi agreed to facilitate voluntary repatriation, replacing the lengthy deportation process that required court proceedings. “Government further accelerated the process by extending the jurisdiction of the Musina Refugee Reception Office near the Beitbridge Border Post to undertake verification and processing,” the city said. All logistical arrangements were put in place to facilitate the onward repatriation of Malawian nationals through the Government of Malawi, the United Nations, and the International Organisation for Migration. Musina will now serve as another temporary repatriation processing centre, allowing the operation to continue after the temporary Durban Drive-In site was closed and its infrastructure dismantled. Mayor Xaba reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to working with all spheres of government and humanitarian partners in responding to complex humanitarian situations, while safeguarding the dignity, safety and well-being of all affected persons. The Mayor thanked all spheres of government, community members, non-profit and faith-based organisations, volunteers, law enforcement agencies, Municipal officials, and partner organisations for their commitment and cooperation throughout the operation. He also expressed special appreciation to the residents and businesses of Sherwood and Ward 26, as well as community crime prevention structures, for their patience, understanding and support during this period. “We fully appreciate the inconvenience that residents and businesses had to endure. As I have indicated before, this was an unforeseen situation that required an urgent humanitarian response. “Through the tireless efforts of government officials, volunteers, and our partners from various non-profit and faith-based organisations, we ensured that the repatriation process was conducted in a humane, safe, and lawful manner," Xaba said.

Does anyone else wish we had less news posts?

PieFed offers these fantastic categories of communities that helps me with this aspect of the Threadiverse. Like since https://piefed.social/f/news exists, I could in theory unsubscribe from all the News communities, thereby removing all of that content from my Subscribed feed, yet still be able to access that entire category at the touch of a button. (In practice I only subscribe to a few more selected ones, leaving the most toxic ones behind.) On PieFed.social, there is also https://piefed.social/f/memecommunities, and https://piefed.social/f/linux, and https://piefed.social/f/television - but note that these predefined selections (by the instance admins) are not constraining in the least, since they are also user customizable and even shareable! So you could generate a finely-tuned selection of communities, then everyone could benefit from your labors (or likely someone already has what you want?). This is a UI matter though, so I don’t know if it would be compatible with your current 3rd-party app or choice. But at least in a web browser - I use Firefox on Android - it works perfectly, and has done so for a year. PieFed.social has access restricted to only account-holders right now (an unfortunately necessary bot defensive technique), but without needing to make an account you can see how these Topic areas work on piefed.zip, e.g. https://piefed.zip/topic/cats, https://piefed.zip/topic/gaming, https://piefed.zip/topic/privacy, https://piefed.zip/topic/programming, https://piefed.zip/topic/science, etc. For me these 100% change the browsing experience for me, as compared to Lemmy! Also you can receive notifications for pretty much anything - a user commenting, a community posting, or even STOP receiving notifications for your own content (impossible on Lemmy), so for low-volume or high-importance content (e.g. a community that you help moderate?) this helps so much. Check it out! 🤓

E Jean Carroll asks judge to order Donald Trump to pay $5m he owes her

Yeah, it’s a point of pride by now. His narcissism means he’ll resent being ordered to do it, and will pull every tactic he can to deny and delay. He can easily scrounge up the money, but he doesn’t want to. So he’ll delay until the courts start putting liens on his assets. And even then, the lien would only take effect once he sells the affected asset, so he could just refuse to ever sell it.

Sophomore slump: why is Netflix losing so many viewers for second seasons?

The less choice here is key. People were more likely to be focusing on one or two TV shows at once because there were simply less TV shows being made. That’s all gone now. There’s far more competition for people’s interest now across the board. There also was much less international options too. Lost was not competing with Korean or Spanish or German shows for people’s attention.

Sophomore slump: why is Netflix losing so many viewers for second seasons?

It’s because they walked away from the tried and true broadcast television model: long seasons, often 20+ episodes There’s far more competition in television now than in the era of regular 20+ episodes a season shows. There’s simply more TV shows, and thus more options for audiences. Actors in TV now are also regularly in movies and many other shows. Many actors now worth hiring simply do not want to tie themselves down to 20 episodes a season, and define themselves by one show. Audiences also expect higher CGI quality than you would usually get in 20 episodes a season shows. There’s a reason it’s primarily only network procedural shows that stick to that formula. This model was created out of necessity: the technology was broadcast television, no video recording technology cheap enough to distribute episodes in bulk. However the model had a number of advantages. First of all, it created audience loyalty because shows had a consistent and timely presence in people’s lives. People would gather around the water cooler or on the playground to talk about last night’s episode, since it came out for everyone at the same time. I mean, the watercooler culture is also gone primarily because of the increase competition. Two avid TV watchers now could be watching an entirely different array of TV shows with zero cross-over because of the prominence and accessibility of options to audiences - especially from the Non-US world. That was simply far less likely to happen 10 years ago, Shows like Lost in the 00s were not indirectly competing with Korean or German shows. They just weren’t. It also gave shows evolving cultural relevance, as longer runs gave the writers opportunities to respond to current events, fashion trends, or changes in technology. Shows that try to incorporate contemporary trends within their plot tend to not age very well. Lastly, it was immune to the “binge burnout” and “cramming amnesia” effects, two terms I just made up (but describe real phenomena). Everyone who has binge watched a season of a show knows the bad feeling you get at the end. It’s a mixture of burnout but also of grief, because you’re forced out of a world you’d immersed yourself in. Cramming amnesia should be instantly familiar to anyone who has crammed for an exam, and everyone knows that spaced repetition over the long term is much better at building memory, whereas cramming leads to forgetting. Not all networks use the binge formula: Apple and Amazon don’t always do this. (Apple never does this).

South Africa’s anti-migrant deadline forces fathers to leave families behind

Saddening situation between Malawi & South Africa. Read Maldevelopment by Samir Amin for history of SAfrica’s subimperialist status. ::: [2026-06-30] Reuters via NTV Kenya With anti-migrant sentiment escalating in South Africa, Malawian John Allen threw some clothes in a bag, said goodbye to his South African girlfriend and their one-year-old son, and left to catch a bus out of the country. He has now been waiting in a makeshift camp in the city of Durban for four days with thousands of other people hoping to depart before June 30, an unofficial deadline set by anti-immigrant groups for all undocumented foreigners to leave. Although the government has not condoned the deadline and condemns the violence, it has been criticised by other African states and civil society groups for failing to stamp it out. A drone view of thousands of Malawians at a Durban drive-in site amid fears of anti-immigrant violence ahead of a June 30 deadline set by activists demanding undocumented migrants leave the country, in Durban, South Africa, June 25, 2026. REUTERS/Siyabonga Sishi “The reason I would like to stay is I feel bad for my child. He’s too young. When I’m gone who’s going to support him?” said Allen, 30. The child’s mother, who is South African, only earns about 500 rand ($30) a week as a cleaner, but Allen had been earning four times that doing contract work for a manufacturing company, although he was undocumented. As anti-immigrant protests surged in recent weeks some of the foreigners in his neighbourhood were beaten up, he said, and now almost everyone has left. “There’s two options: I can lose my life or I can leave,” he told Reuters, standing with other men amid piles of luggage, waiting for a bus. MANY MIGRANTS STILL FRANTICALLY TRYING TO GET OUT At least hundreds of people still remained at the giant empty lot in Durban on Monday, where Malawians flocked for safety ahead of protests due on Tuesday to mark the deadline. Although they say they target only illegal immigrants, the vigilantes often don’t discriminate, and many migrants whose status is entirely legal have been attacked or had their property trashed. Some people have been here for a week waiting their turn, with buses departing one after another. The Department of Home Affairs has set up a tent where it is processing people for deportation, although authorities are currently focused on moving them out of Durban to a border post in Musina ahead of the protests, which many fear will turn violent, as past ones have. No one here wanted to risk staying in South Africa, beyond the deadline. Several said they were afraid they might be killed. He is leaving two young sons behind, and their mother doesn’t have the means to support them, he said. “I’m worried for the children,” said Awali, who has been in South Africa doing plumbing and construction work since 2019.
