It seems as if we are getting ourselves ready for the question “How much did you earn during your lifetime?” Or “How many friends did you make?” Or “How much progress did you make in your career?” Or “How much influence did you have on people?” Or “How many conversions did you make?” Were any of these to be the question Christ will ask when he comes again in his glory, many of us could approach the judgement day with great confidence. But nobody is going to hear any of these questions. The question we are all going to face is the question we are least prepared for. It is: “What have you done for the least of mine?” As long as there are strangers; hungry, naked, and sick people; prisoners, refugees, and slaves; people who are handicapped physically, mentally, or emotionally; people without work, a home, or a piece of land, there will be that haunting question from the throne of judgement: “What have you done for the least of mine?” I don’t think even the Christian God really cares about the straight and narrow dogma, and would not appreciate the in group/out group focus of the hardliners. The bottom line is the point of their religion, caring for those who are not cared for by others. I often figure if Jesus came back, he would always appear to you as the person you least want to help.

How do you know if a video is AI?

I just looked for ai slop on the internet and some videos are very realistic, so realistic it makes me doubt my ability to discern what’s real from what’s created to play with my emotions and generate money for the creator or advance an agenda. I’m in my 40s. Video sites are full of what I assume overconfident people younger than me with comments like how boomers would believe any of these videos. I’m not that old myself yet but this stuff is scary. It can be used to denigrate a politician, to demonize or ridicule minorities, to share misinformation, to make porn using the face of somebody who rejected a disgruntled man… It’s also very sad society actually wants this. It shows lots of people are actually very gullible and stupid. A better question would be, how do I avoid being gullible with images and video so realistic? Because the more technology advances the worse it’s going to get.

Google demands changes to AI copyright laws - urges ministers to allow AI companies the right to use protected data created by others

What they’re doing isn’t a crime. They’re just reading headlines and producing (very) short summaries. Load Google news and what you see there is the problem. A lot of the time, people don’t want or need to read the full article. Everything they wanted to know is in the headline and occasionally, the byline. When Google or Meta reproduce that headline and/or a super short summary on their sites with the link, the end users are getting the gist of the article without loading the ads that would have been displayed if they went to the original site. This is fine. It’s not a crime. It’s not even unethical! They’re literally implementing “the web” as it is meant to be used since forever. If you want to outlaw this, you’re advocating for a very ugly reality where people can’t even use curl and/or Python to grab news headlines for their own purposes. Remember when Windows 7 shipped with news headlines in the widget sidebar? That had the same problem (for publishers).

Have you ever walked away or ended a friendship on the spot?

Oh most definitely. Several times actually. When I was recovering from substance abuse issues, the only way to remove my access was cutting off the circle of friends that were still using. It was tough but worth it. Major one that still stings was a discord server I spent every day hanging out in. I got along with a handful of them very well, but got routinely shit on by two members for my “extreme political rhetoric” basically just angry liberals constantly calling me a fascist for being pro animal liberation or whatever they didnt agree with.

Lefebryści oficjalnie dokonują schizmy

Dziś prawdopodobnie będziemy świadkami najważniejszej schizmy w zachodnim Kościele w naszych czasach. FSSPX, czyli Bractwo Kapłańskie Świętego Piusa X, zwani też piusowcami, albo od założyciela – lefebrystami, wyświęci dziś czterech biskupów bez zgody Watykanu. W warstwie powierzchownej – chodzi o stołki, czy po prostu władzę. Tak chcą to przedstawiać lefebryści. My chcemy sobie wyświęcić biskupów, a zły Watykan nie pozwala – taką narrację narzucają. Konflikt leży jednak gdzie indziej. Lefebryści nie zgadzają się z Kościołem rzymskokatolickim na poziomie fundamentalnym. W bardzo dużym skrócie największym dla nich problemem jest to, że po soborze watykańskim II Kościół przestał być w swoim głównym nurcie fundamentalistyczny. Tzn. przestał twierdzić, że jest jedynym miejscem zbawienia, a wszystkie inne wyznania i religie to zło. A lefebryści chcą dalej postrzegać zewnętrzny świat jako zło i swój Kościół jako jedyną drogę. Z tym wiąże się wiele innych drobnych rzeczy, jak ich przywiązanie do łacińskiej mszy, nienawiść do ekumenizmu, czy silny społeczny konserwatyzm. To co jednak ich napędza, to – jak w każdej niemal schizmie – że to oni są tymi prawdziwymi wyznawcami, że to oni myślą tak, jak się powinno myślęć. Dlatego według mnie nie zostaniemy w takim samym punkcie, jak po ostatnim nielegalnym wyświęceniu przez nich biskupów w 1988 roku. Tym razem FSSPX odłączy się już zupełnie (wciąż twierdząc, że to oni są prawdziwki i że się wcale nie odłączają, tylko Babilon ich wypchnął). Mają mocne struktury, mają rzeszę zaangażowanych wiernych, a nawet swoje media czy głośnych influencerów. Ciekawe jednak jak będą wyglądały ich liczby, gdy będą musieli się policzyć? Ile orbitujących stowarzyszeń się do nich przyłączy? Ile wiernych zostanie, a ile jednak wróci do waniliowego Kościoła rzymskiego, gdy przestraszą się ekskomuniki?
