Yes… on roads. It really depends though if their weight per wheel surface area is higher than a car per surface area it could still cause more damage to roads and using these on bike paths not designed to support motor vehicles (such as mulch paths) will likely destroy those paths. They’re also a visibility hazard. Bike paths aren’t designed in roadways to have an 8x5 visual obstruction in them. This could endanger cyclists, pedestrians and drivers due to visual obstruction (which is already a problem with giant trucks and SUVs). You could mitigate this by requiring them to have like a blinking yellow light like we do for oversized highway traffic. As far as climate, environmental and oil pollution. These are probably pretty good. They aren’t going to generate the level of toxic runoff and air pollution ICE cars will.

Iran’s Top Commander Warns US Over ‘Futile Cycle’ of Lies, Contradiction

The commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters has warned the US over a “false and futile cycle” of lies and contradictions in its behavior, after Washington first threatened to strike Iranian energy infrastructure and then claimed negotiations had been approved. “The United States, on one hand, speaks of agreement and negotiation, and on the other hand commits villainy,” Major General Ali Abdollahi said in a statement on Thursday. His warning came after President Donald Trump first threatened to “hit Iran VERY HARD TONIGHT” and seize Kharg Island, then hours later announced he had “cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran,” claiming negotiations had been “brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved.” “This clear contradiction in America’s behavior and words is the main cause of insecurity in the region and has jeopardized the security of international trade and economies, especially the Strait of Hormuz,” General Abdollahi said. On Wednesday night, the United States launched airstrikes on several locations in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province, including the cities of Jask and Sirik and Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. We recently reported that Xbox seems to be having some troubles, with significant layoffs and a 100-day plan on the cards to bring the ship around. Some of Microsoft’s issues include plummeting revenue, an affordability crisis, and low adoption rates. According to Xbox Gaming’s Chief Stragety Officer, Matthew Ball, ad-supported tiers may be one potential tool to help improve things at Xbox. In an interview with The Game Business, Ball addresses the rising costs of gaming, saying that “the costs have gone up way too high on development, and at the same point, everyone feels terrible with prices going up on hardware or software or microtransactions. That is a challenge. It’s not good if that is the only option.” He goes on to compare it to streaming, noting that the vast majority of new streaming subscriptions in recent years have been on supported subscription tiers. North Dakota will receive roughly $28 million from the federal government in compensation for costs the state incurred during the Dakota Access Pipeline protests as part of a settlement announced Thursday. The amount is the same as was awarded to North Dakota in 2025 by U.S. District Court Judge Dan Traynor. The lawsuit, filed in 2019, concerned demonstrations against the construction of the crude oil pipeline, also known as DAPL, that took place in rural south-central North Dakota in 2016 and 2017. North Dakota alleged that the federal government caused the protests to grow in size and intensity by unlawfully allowing demonstrators to camp on federal land. The United States initially appealed Traynor’s judgment to the 8th Circuit, but agreed to dismiss that appeal as part of the settlement.

In a speech broadcast on national television, Diaz-Canel said Cuba would open more sectors to private businesses and streamline the approval process for new ventures. “For non-state forms of management, the list of prohibited activities will be limited so that their scope of operations is as broad as possible,” the president said. “A process is underway… to approve all pending applications in the shortest time possible.” Under pressure from the oil blockade imposed by Washington in January, the Cuban government has unveiled a series of reforms aimed at opening up the economy. Geneva (AFP) – The first-ever international agreement on safeguarding digital platform workers in the gig economy was adopted on Friday at the UN’s International Labour Organization. The Decent Work in the Platform Economy Convention is aimed at extending labour protections to hundreds of millions of people worldwide who work through digital platforms, in areas like food delivery and car services. The convention applies to “all digital labour platforms” and “all digital platform workers… whether they are in the formal or informal economy”, according to the text adopted by ILO members. Until now, labour practices have struggled to keep pace with the dramatic shifts in the way people work. The World Bank estimated in 2023 there were up to 435 million online gig workers around the globe who had largely fallen outside regular labour protections. Companies behind the apps control the gig work via algorithms that assign tasks, set pay, evaluate performance and even fire workers. Despite largely controlling the tasks and pay, the platforms typically classify the workers as independent contractors rather than employees. It can help. A lot of the time I go on Reddit for example starts subconscious. If that doesn’t work the conscious part kicks in and I know I don’t want to visit that craphole so I close the tab again and put the phone aside. Otherwise I see content and keep scrolling.

Thoughts after my first month on Lemmy

I finally made the leap to Lemmy. It’s a little confusing, but it’s doing a pretty good job of scratching that reddit itch. Some random thoughts: I just need a place to spit out my random thoughts and have random conversations and make random jokes; it’s really not that demmanding. Do I miss having 400 upvotes instead of 11? Sure, but the main thing is that I’m communicating with people. Definitely get an app. I’m using Voyager on my phone with a KBM–how I mostly get around. Big difference from Reddit: Those 400 upvotes come at a cost–posts are dead within a few hours. There’s almost no point to leave a new comment in an active thread–nobody is going to see it. And there’s also no point in leaving a detailed explanation of anything on reddit for the same reason. On Lemmy, I’ll get replies to posts and comments DAYS later, and people seem more willing to be helpful; maybe because things are less contentious, and maybe it’s just people are naturally more helpful to strangers in smaller communities (see cities vs small towns)… So really, the only downside to lemmy–the small size of the population–ends up being one the best things about it. It’s definitely nice not having to compulsively check to see if my comments have been shadowbanned–which happened quite frequently and seemingly without reason on reddit. It’s nice to be in a space where I can be more frank about political remedies. It’s nice that I can view the comment histories of people I’m talking with to determine if they’re an inveterate asshole or just having a bad day (only found one asshole so far). That’s it! 10/10. I’ll try not to burn my reddit account in case I have a tough question, but I honestly think a technical question is more likely to be answered on Lemmy with it’s small platoon of nerds with little to chew on than the hordes of ignorami on reddit rapidly trying to solve everyone’s problem by free associating the title of the post.
