New permissions requested by Sober (The main Roblox linux client)

Hello, recently, the Roblox client “Sober” has been requesting more permissions since the latest update. Screen content Personal subfolder of execution app/com.discord.Discord Personal subfolder of execution discord-ipc-0 Does this seem suspicious to you? (I’m not taking into account Roblox’s privacy policy, which is bad, just the Sober client)

"This Linux thing is better than normal computers"

So fun watching someone try Linux as their first OS, none of the “Linux is difficult because I learned how to use Windows” or “Linux is bad because it’s not exactly like Windows” comments :D Roblox stopped working when the devs intentionally blocked Wine, but he just shrugged and said he didn’t play it that much anyway. It’s a little heart breaking hearing him often ask which parts he could buy to get more FPS, because he’d need to replace half the computer to get a newer CPU and DDR4 RAM, since I suspect the DDR3 could be the current bottleneck. But other than that he’s very happy with the computer.

Groomblox devising new ways to exploit children.

From the way he described it, he like modeled BDSM chairs and other sex props and like stripper dance emotes and stuff, idk really. I remember finding it really weird at the time because me and my bff and another friend were on a discord VC at the time playing TF2 and then he just joined and started talking about how he got banned for making Roblox sex mods Basically all three of us were just sitting there slowly going together as he kept talking

"Star Trek is dying." How would you sell it to a younger audience?

In a TrekCulture interview a week ago, Rob Kazinsky, who plays Zeph in Section 31, talked about his reaction to the S13 movie. He revealed one interesting point from behind the scenes about why the movie was made: When I got this job, I was like, “Ugh, Section 31 movie, why are they doing a Section 31 movie? It’s gonna be hated from the get-go. No ones gonna want to watch a Section 31 movie. We’re doing a TV-budget movie. This isn’t going to be what people want…” And I spoke to Alex [Kurtzman] and I spoke to Olatunde [Osunsanmi] and they explained to me that Star Trek is dying. And I don’t know if people know that. You know, I was talking about Star Trek at my gym where I fight. You know, I’m a boxer where I fight with a lot of kids - you know, I don’t fight them but train them - none of them knew what Star Trek was. Could you imagine that? He went on to say that Star Trek had never had a base as big as Harry Potter or Star Wars but the small fanbase was passionate. He says that fanbase is aging and “we are going to lose Star Trek if we don’t bring in new fans, new eyes and new ways of getting people to love the things that we love.” I think that’s a valid point but Section 31 is not the answer. It’s not particularly interesting for kids (I think) or for adults, whether or not they’re Trek fans already. And for fans, this type of storytelling sacrifices the optimistic ethos (though not immune from criticism along the lines of DS9) that’s at the heart of the Federation and the franchise. And I’m not even arguing this from a canon or gatekeeping point of view. It’s not utlilizing Star Trek’s niche and unique selling point in the market. Why should kids watch Star Trek instead of Captain America, Suicide Squad, or any MCU movie? Here comes the question: If you’re in Alex Kurtzman’s position, how are you going to sell the franchise to a new, young audience? How are you going to convince kids who spend their time playing Roblox and watching Mr. Beast that Star Trek is a good show to watch?

💀 It doesn't even make sense

This reminds me of a lib who was vehemently anti-CPC because they “censor dissenting opinions” but then he ended up censoring dissenting opinions on a Roblox elevator group he hates, by stating that more professional language on that article “made it sound more like a promotion than a wiki” glad i left that shithole

Why do it

Er… nope. The one on plagerism? YouTube has recommended it to me a couple of times. (I just watched the roblox off sound video the other day, though.) I guess I’ll put that on my short list. I assume I’ll find out that Internet Historian committed a lot of plagerism in creating that “Man In Cave” video I linked? Well that sucks. Internet Historian’s entertaining, but I’m not going to be bale to feel good about watching his stuff if that’s the case.

First light gaming build for kids - Advise desired

Hiya folks, the last PC I built had a top-of-the-line ATI Radeon 9800 in an AGP port. I’m on a PowerSpec prebuilt now, which is working fine. My kids are ready to graduate from the spare laptop to an actual PC, and I want to build it with them so they learn about ESD and the joys of thermal paste. I plan to have the kids upgrade these in pieces over the next few years as/if they grow to need more power. They mostly play minecraft, fortnight, and roblox. They don’t care about max graphics or AAAA games or max FPS yet, but maybe they will in the future. I still don’t. I’m trying to keep it under $800, and I already have OK but not great 1080p work monitors. Here’s my first draft: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vxcfFZ I’m very open to suggestions on any front!

GTA producer's big-budget single-player game MindsEye shows off gameplay

Tonight brought a closer look at gameplay for MindsEye, the mysterious new big-budget single-player project from former GTA producer Leslie Benzies and his Build A Rocket Boy studio. Sony’s State of Play broadcast contained a new cinematic trailer, too - confirming a summer 2025 launch window for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Hey, it looks like MindsEye will debut shortly before Benzies’ former colleagues launch GTA 6 this autumn! MindsEye was originally announced as part of Everywhere, an ambitious bid by Build a Rocket Boy to launch a fresh game platform akin to Fortnite and Roblox. But this has seemingly been put on the back burner, and in October 2024 it was announced that Hitman studio IO Interactive had picked up publishing duties for MindsEye - seemingly as a standalone game. “I’ve dedicated my entire career to crafting captivating interactive entertainment to delight players,” Benzies said in a statement today. “With MindsEye, we’ve pushed cinematic adventure to the next level - building characters and a world that feels truly alive. We can’t wait for players to step in and feel the immersive realism and tireless effort poured into every moment of the game.” Today’s look at MindsEye gives our best glimpse yet at its story, which sees protagonist Jacob Diaz reliving disjointed flashbacks. MindsEye is set in a Redrock, a “fictional desert metropolis” in the near-future. Eurogamer visited Build A Rocket Boy’s flagship Edinburgh studio early in 2023, when Everywhere was being seen as the studio’s major focus. It’ll be intriguing to see how much - if anything - of this earlier version of the project remains.

Roblox Accused of Concocting Illegal Gambling Ring for Minors - Bloomberg Law

The difference is you can’t cash out Apple gift cards, and this is precisely why games generally don’t allow it either: when you allow cash-token-cash conversions, then you turn the token into a cash-equivalent, becoming responsible for any misuse just the same as if you offered a banking account. But Roblox got greedy, and not only do they allow cash-token-cash conversions (at a crazy rate of $100 USD = 10,000 R$ = $35 USD), but they also allow third parties to interact with it, with fully centralized knowledge and control.

Kids Relief: The $100M Charity Teaching Kids To Gamble In Roblox

[1:07:28, channel: mrixrt] Quick video summary: There’s a few charities, Comic Relief and Kids Relief. They’ve done a few questionable things over years. Such as commissioning a few educational games aimed at children, and then put the net profit gained from them to good use. …The games are AFK brainrot with gacha mechanics and zero educational value. Also the games are on Roblox! We were talking about net profit here. Roblox eats a huge part of the pie. And the development house themselves? It was started by a few YouTubers and it all goes downhill from there.

How can I get rid of the shame/regret from being accused as a pedophile?

Hello there. I’m a 21 year old guy with strong depression and many insecurities. I’m always trying to be perfect and my biggest fear is to be a bad person. I’m not a pedophile at all. For me it’s the exact opposite because I hate pedophilia and think it’s the most disgusting thing in the world. So I accidentally did something stupid that I shouldn’t have done and due to my paranoia and overthinking I can’t stop thinking and worrying about it. Recently I played this game called Roblox that I occasionally like playing. I played some online game (within Roblox) where you are a cartoony lion and roleplay with other people. Idk why but sometimes I’m quite childish and troll on the internet. So in the game I thought it would be funny to play as if I want to make a baby with another lion so I jumped on other lions and did this mating motion. I’ve seen other people doing this before and didn’t think too much about it and just thought it was funny. But there is this text chat in the game and when I jokingly asked if someone wants to mate and jumped on them they called me a pedophile for doing this and the fact that I’m 21 cause they were saying it’s a kids game and they’re kids. Somehow I just didn’t think about that at all that they might be kids (I must’ve assumed they were adults) and felt really bad about it. Idk how serious they actually were cause I later experimented in another game by just telling my age and they also called me a pedophile literally just because of the fact that I play the game as a 21 year old even though the game has no age limit and I know many adults playing Roblox who experienced similar things since that game literally came out in 2006 where many of the adults were kids themselves and grew up with the game (I was 2 at that time). It’s like someone calls you a pedophile for playing Minecraft as an adult. But now I deeply shame myself and regret that I did this. I literally just wanted to do something funny and didn’t think about that they might be kids. But it was stupid that I was doing that. And it really hurted me of what they accused me of cause they were saying I’m a pedophile, that I’m Drake, that I need to get a job and need to shower etc. I know that I don’t have the slightest pedophile thoughts but this experience made me extremely paranoid and I can’t stop thinking about this every day. I wish this would’ve never happened. Idk how I should deal with this and how I could get rid of these thoughts. It feels like since that happened I ruined my life and made my soul dirty and can never undo this!

Parents worried about children's safety shouldn't let them play Roblox, company boss says

A good deal of people making ~~games~~ experiences on Roblox are minors. They’re being promised revenues, but of course they’re paid with bogus money that they’re encouraged to spend back on the platform, since cashing back is subject to an absolutely ridiculous rate, and to a minimum amount. Only the very few at the top can pretend to get anything back as real money. But all of the games, even the ones that never makes a cent for their creators, are the content Roblox milks indefinitely. Roblox development is a jungle, completely unregulated and managed outside of the platform by design, since they want to deny all responsibility for any of that shit. They kill the platform forums so dev teams are being formed outside, on discords and stuff. Teams with minors working with adults. Yes, there were cases of exploitation, and worse.
