PlayStation announces new studio focused on ‘immersive multiplayer worlds’

Sony just announced a new internal studio called Team LFG, which will be developing “a team-based action game.” According to Sony Interactive Entertainment studios CEO Hermen Hulst, the studio “originated at Bungie, but has also rallied developers from across the industry to bring to life an ambitious incubation project that I’m very excited about.” Curiously, no specific developers were announced as part of the studio reveal, so it’s not clear who is actually working at Team LFG. As part of the post introducing the studio, it’s described as “a team composed not just of industry veterans who have shipped titles like Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, Fortnite, Roblox, and Rec Room, but also industry newcomers with fresh creative perspectives and skills.“ The existence of Team LFG is part of PlayStation’s push into live service games, which has been scaled back from its original ambitious plan, and has suffered a series of major setbacks. Sony originally acquired Destiny developer Bungie in 2022, and the studio went through multiple rounds of layoffs in the following years. When announcing layoffs in 2024, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons said that “we are working with PlayStation Studios leadership to spin out one of our incubation projects – an action game set in a brand-new science-fantasy universe – to form a new studio within PlayStation Studios to continue its promising development,” which appears to be Team LFG. Bungie is currently working on a multiplayer shooter called Marathon. Sony also released the hero shooter Concord in 2024, and the launch was so disastrous the game was taken offline and, eventually, its developer Firewalk Studios was shuttered. It’s not clear how far into development Team LFG’s first release is, nor when it might be properly announced. The studio says that “we will make immersive multiplayer worlds propelled by action games that players can learn, play, and master for countless hours” and that its first game “draws inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games.” The studio adds that “players will inhabit a lighthearted, comedic world set in brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.” From The Verge via this RSS feed

I swapped the entire school computers to linux mint

I go to a programming school, where there were computers running ancient windows 8 and some were on windows 10, they ran really slow and were completely unrelaible when doing the tasks that are required, those computers in question had either i5-4750 (I think?) or i7-4970 so running windows 10 with all its bloat was not going to be an easy task for em, so long story short I decided to talk to the principal about it explaining why linux is so much better than windows and gave him reasons why linux will be better for us for education and he agreed after considering it for a bit, he let me know that some students play roblox or minecraft in middle of the lesson and he asks if linux would stop em from doing that, I stated that as long as they dont know how to work with wine/lutris or know any specific linux packages that run windows games on linux they should not be able to play in the middle of lessons. he gave me the green light to do it, so I spent like 3 days migrating like 20+ computers to linux (since I had to set them up and install some required applications for them) in the last day where I was doing a last check up on the PCs to make sure they are in working order, there was a computer having a problem of which where it didnt boot, I let the principal know about this to get permission to work on it, he said yes, so after some troubleshooting I realized the boot order was all screwed, so since Ive worked with arch before I knew how to fix it, I booted up linux mint live image, chrooted, and fixed the boot order and computer went back to life, prinicipal came in checked on everything to make sure everything works, told me to wait for a bit, and then came back and paid me for his troubles (was a bit of a surprised since I expected nothing of the sort), the next day I came to school, sat down, turned PC on, noticed something was in the trash bin, opened it, found “robloxinstall.exe” on it, told the principal about it, he was pleased with it, so now 2 weeks later he seems now to be confident about linux, as he told me there is another class he is considering to move to linux. so my question here would be: does this mean linux now is ready for the education sector? (considering now, that I got a win win situation, I get to use an OS that I like in school, students gets to focus on the lessons instead of slacking.)

Take It Down Act heads to Trump’s desk

The Take It Down Act is heading to President Donald Trump’s desk after the House voted 409-2 to pass the bill, which will require social media companies to take down content flagged as nonconsensual (including AI-generated) sexual images. Trump has pledged to sign it. The bill is among the only pieces of online safety legislation to successfully pass both chambers in years of furor over deepfakes, child safety, and other issues — but it’s one that critics fear will be used as a weapon against content the administration or its allies dislike. It criminalizes the publication of nonconsensual intimate images (NCII), whether real or computer-generated, and requires social media platforms to have a system to remove those images within 48 hours of being flagged. In his address to Congress this year, Trump quipped that once he signed it, “I’m going to use that bill for myself too, if you don’t mind, because nobody gets treated worse than I do online, nobody.” The proliferation of AI tools that make it easier than ever to generate realistic-looking images has supercharged concerns about deepfaked, damaging content spreading through schools and creating a new vector of bullying and abuse. But while critics say that’s an important issue to deal with, they worry that the Take It Down Act’s approach could be exploited to inflict harm in other ways. The Cyber Civil Rights Initiative (CCRI), which was created to combat image-based sexual abuse, said that it can’t cheer the Take It Down Act’s passage. “While we welcome the long-overdue federal criminalization of NDII [the nonconsensual distribution of intimate images], we regret that it is combined with a takedown provision that is highly susceptible to misuse and will likely be counter-productive for victims,” the group writes. It fears that the bill, which empowers the Federal Trade Commission — whose Democratic minority commissioners Trump fired in a break with decades of Supreme Court precedent — will be selectively enforced in a way that ultimately only props up “unscrupulous platforms.” “Platforms that feel confident that they are unlikely to be targeted by the FTC (for example, platforms that are closely aligned with the current administration) may feel emboldened to simply ignore reports of NDII,” they write. “Platforms attempting to identify authentic complaints may encounter a sea of false reports that could overwhelm their efforts and jeopardize their ability to operate at all.” “Platforms may respond by abandoning encryption entirely” Because of the quick turnaround for platforms to remove content flagged as nonconsensual intimate imagery, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) warns that especially smaller platforms “will have to comply so quickly to avoid legal risk that they won’t be able to verify claims.” Instead, they’ll likely turn to flawed filters to crack down on duplicates, they write. The group also cautions that end-to-end encrypted services including private messaging systems and cloud storage are not exempted from the bill, posing a risk to the privacy technology. Since encrypted services can’t monitor what their users send to one another, the EFF asks, “How could such services comply with the takedown requests mandated in this bill? Platforms may respond by abandoning encryption entirely in order to be able to monitor content—turning private conversations into surveilled spaces,” including ones that abuse survivors commonly turn to. Even so, the Take It Down Act quickly garnered a wide base of support. First Lady Melania Trump has become a leading champion of the bill, but it’s also seen backing from parent and youth advocates, as well as some in the tech industry. Google’s president of global affairs Kent Walker called the passage “a big step toward protecting individuals from nonconsensual explicit imagery,” and Snap similarly applauded the vote. Internet Works, a group whose members include medium-sized companies like Discord, Etsy, Reddit, Roblox, and others, praised the House vote, with executive director Peter Chandler saying the bill “would empower victims to remove NCII materials from the Internet and end the cycle of victimization by those who publish this heinous content.”Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), one of two members (both Republican) who voted against the bill, wrote on X that he couldn’t support it because “I feel this is a slippery slope, ripe for abuse, with unintended consequences.” From The Verge via this RSS feed

I tried running a 2nd instance of Roblox simultaneously on macos 15 with another account but this shows up, if my mac can handle it then why can’t it just let me do it? If I have two copies of an app like Roblox in separate User/Applications folders, macos moves them to the /Applications/ folder. Sometimes it won’t run apps claiming to be corrupted, so I then have to do sudo xattr -cr /Applications/someapp.app in the terminal and they run perfectly fine. It always nags me if I download apps from anywhere but mac app store. Some of these messages can only be gotten rid of by disabling system integrity protection, but then macos blocks you from running MAS apps due to having “permissive security”. I don’t daily drive macOS anymore, I switched to Linux on my M1 mac where I can do whatever the hell I want.

Touching grass... makes things worse?

I’ve heard that younger zoomers and younger are very gender segregated in social interactions. Friend groups are more singular gendered, parties will have less mixed gender conversations, etc. It’s possible that boys with a more active social life means they actually disproportionately interact with other boys more, while the online ones may actually interact with girls more, especially since lots more girls are in popular younger online spaces now like Tiktok and Roblox

With zero user reviews of the EA, and no reviewer info out there at all. They already talk about taking a % fee from private servers and mod sales, and they are hyper-aggressive about moderation. This is targeting the roblox crowd by the looks of it’s aggressive focus on mtx/paid experiences while sidestepping publisher fees like steam.

Roblox is a problem — but it’s a symptom of something worse

Roblox is permanently banned from this household and I suspect this will become a lot more common. We need to end the infinite smorgasboard model. That goes for all streaming services and Youtube as well. It’s breaking this entire generation of children and history will 100% look back on it as just as bad as drugs and alcohol, if not worse.
