Several years ago, the night before a local election, I was arrested for prostitution outside of a Koreatown motel. The customer who made the appointment with me twirled his wedding ring a lot and made small talk about sex toys. When he stood up, I followed him towards his motel room, which was across a parking lot. Once outside, I was handcuffed and shoved into an unmarked van by the “customer” and another cop, who flashed his shiny gold badge. After a few hours, I was dumped like a stray dog at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles. Unlike many other sex workers who have been routinely rounded up in prostitution stings, I was not misgendered, raped or beaten by cops. But the subordination ritual of the arrest itself, and the feeling of being caught in the jaws of a likely publicity stunt before an Election Day, stuck with me. A majority of the other women in jail with me that night were half my age and were Black or brown. One of them fell asleep with her head on my lap after she showed me how to use the phone. Then, and now, the LAPD brags about making the city safer, but for sex workers, more arrests only mean more fear, abuse, trauma and poverty. Incarceration only exacerbates these conditions. For sex workers, cleaning up the city means erasure.

Sen. Bernie Sanders is planning to rally with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to endorse a slate of progressive New York candidates for the US House of Representatives. The New York Times reported on Friday that Sanders (I-Vt.), who was born in Brooklyn, plans to headline a rally alongside Mamdani and three insurgent progressive candidates—Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier, and Brad Lander—who are in primary races against establishment Democrats. In promoting the rally, Mamdani said he endorsed the insurgent progressives to create “a Democratic Party driven by big ideas, not big money.” Valdez is currently running for an open seat in New York’s 7th Congressional District, where polls show her strongest competitor is Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. Avila Chevalier, meanwhile, is challenging five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) in New York’s 13th Congressional District, while Lander is trying to unseat Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) in New York’s 10th Congressional District. Polling released by Emerson College late last month showed Lander with a lead of more than 20 points over Goldman, with Valdez locked in a tight race against Reynoso. Look at that poor boy, for instance, on the street corner there. He is ragged, pale, and half-starved. He sees another boy, the son of wealthy parents, and that boy wears nice clothes, he is well fed, and he does not even deign to play with the poor kid. The ragged boy is angry at him he resents and hates the rich boy. And everywhere the poor boy goes he experiences the same thing: he is ignored and scorned, often kicked about — he feels people don’t think him as good as the rich boy, to whom every one is respectful and attentive. The poor boy gets embittered. And when he grows up, he again sees the same thing: the rich are admired and respected, the poor are kicked about and looked down upon. So the poor boy gets to hate his poverty, and he thinks of how he might become rich, get money, and he tries to get it in any way he can, by taking advantage of others, as others have always taken advantage of him, by cheating and lying, and sometimes even by committing crime. Then you say that he is ‘bad’. But don’t you see what made him bad? Don’t you see that the conditions of his whole life have made him what he is? And don’t you see that the system which keeps up such conditions is a greater criminal than the petty thief? The law will step in and punish him, but is it not the same law that permits those bad conditions to exist and upholds the system that makes criminals? Think it over and see if it is not the law itself, the government which really creates crime by compelling people to live in conditions that make them bad. See how law and government uphold and protect the biggest crime of all, the mother of all crimes, the capitalistic wage system, and then proceeds to punish the poor criminal. Consider: does it make any difference whether you do wrong protected by the law, or whether you do it unlawfully? The thing is the same and the effects are the same. Worse even: legal wrongdoing is the greater evil because it causes more misery and injustice than illegal wrong. Lawful crime goes on all the time; it is not punishable and it is made easy, while unlawful crime is not so frequent and is more limited in its scope and effect. Oh very cool! I always wanted to try one but I never got around to it, some time I should just pick one up next time I’m able. What do you use it with usually? Agree about the recorders haha, I think it turns a lot of kids off. Yeah true, there’s also MIDI guitars but those are again pretty expensive for a decent one. I think the wind controller will be good. Maybe if I found something cheap I would rip the frets off of it but I think I would feel bad destroying and instrument I’m not Pete Townshend :P I have no problem learning technique, I just don’t like following a lot of rules :) There’s also e-bows and things like that as well. Facebook Marketplace in my area is the most boring crap imaginable sadly.

My wife would get mad at me for messing up her car. And while theories should sometimes be empirically verified even when already a standard assumption, in this case the physics is trivial high school level and so fundamental that it’s stupid to bother. And just driving cars doesn’t test it at all anyway - the fact that you think it does, demonstrates that you don’t actually understand the point at all. But you don’t seem to be capable of comprehending what I’m saying, and that fine; it takes all types. Have a good day.

That I don’t remember getting until about 06. But the coolest thing about the one I got, it had two parts. The first part was the main body where you put your headphones jack. The second part connected to the first with a standard USB port, and that was where the flash storage was. So it was basically a bog standard USB drive, you plug it into your computer, load MP3s on it, and plug it back into the player. If a whole 64 MEGABYTES wasn’t enough for you, you could just carry multiple sticks. Genius design, wish I still had that thing.

The U.S. also aims to redeploy a missile-launching submarine and an aircraft carrier, along with several warships and scores of jets that join the carrier’s missions, the New York Times said, adding that one of two groups of bombers previously assigned for Europe’s defense may also be reallocated. “Historically there has been an over-reliance on U.S. forces and capabilities,” NATO spokesperson Allison Hart told Reuters, adding that as Europe and Canada invest more in defense and develop greater capabilities, the balance of responsibility can shift. This would strengthen NATO’s defense by reducing reliance on a single ally and reflect a broader change happening within the alliance, Hart said in an emailed statement. The U.S. Department of Defense did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The U.S. European Command said in a statement last week that it would “rightsize” its contributions to the NATO Force Model, without providing further details. Reuters reported in May that the U.S. planned to scale back the military capabilities it would make available to its NATO allies during a major crisis. A civil society group has petitioned a parliamentary committee to investigate a massive data breach after a government agency leaked the national ID numbers and healthcare details of approximately 67.1 million people. Thanarat Kuawattanaphan, a software expert leading the group, submitted the petition to Alongkot Maneekat, chairman of the House Committee on Communications, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy. Thanarat stated that the compromised system allowed easy access to sensitive data—including birth dates, addresses, and parental details—using just a name or ID number.

VJOSA-NARTA, Albania — In late April, heavy machinery began moving into the Pishë Poro-Narta protected landscape on Albania’s Adriatic coast without permits or public notice. Bulldozers and excavators felled coastal pine trees, flattened sand dunes, and cut new roads through previously untouched habitat. Then, barbed wire fences went up along the shoreline. The incursion was the realization of a luxury resort development backed by Jared Kushner, U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law. The development plans of Kushner’s Affinity Partners, a private equity fund, stretch from the uninhabited Sazan Island into the Vjosa-Narta Protected Landscape, the delta region of Albania’s Vjosa River that includes Pishë Poro-Narta. Roughly twice the size of Paris, the Vjosa-Narta area shelters flamingos, Dalmatian pelicans (Pelecanus crispus), loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and more than 70 endangered species, among them the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus). Neither Affinity Partners nor the office of the prime minister of Albania responded to Mongabay’s requests for comment. When protesters arrived at the site, security guards confronted them. An 81-year-old German fan died near Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, the Mexican capital, hours before the kickoff of the opening match of the 2026 World Cup between Mexico and South Africa. According to the Mexican website Publimetro, the fan suffered a heart attack while attempting to enter the stadium through Gate 1, near the “Rampa 2” area, which necessitated immediate intervention from the ambulance and emergency teams deployed around the stadium. The report added that medical staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the fan at the scene before transferring him to the National Institute of Cardiology in Mexico City, where he passed away due to his health crisis. The incident occurred before the start of the opening match of the tournament, which ended with the Mexican national team defeating South Africa two goals to nil in Group A competition. Itinuturing ito ng mga tagapagtaguyod sa karapatan ng mga manggagawa bilang makasaysayang hatol na nagtitiyak sa seguridad sa paggawa ng gig workers. Inihain ng Food Panda Riders Region 8 ang kanilang reklamo noong Agosto 2025 sa NLRC dahil sa pagturing sa kanila ng kumpanya bilang mga freelancer imbes na mga aktwal na empleyado. Anang unyon, hindi totoong “independent contractors” sila dahil kung gayon, dapat ay malaya silang pumasok sa trabaho kung kailan nila nanaisin.
