I cant decide between roblox and godot

Roblox is a content platform owned by a corporation. Anything that you make there will not belong to you, your work will be bound to the corporation’s system. Godot is an open source game engine. Anything that you make with Godot will belong to you. More importantly though, Roblox profits from child exploitation: Investigation: How Roblox Is Exploiting Young Game Developers Roblox Pressured Us to Delete Our Video. So We Dug Deeper.

Groomblox devising new ways to exploit children.

As a technology, Roblox is actually impressive, it’s not shitty Minecraft you can make some sophisticated stuff without a lot of work, the tooling is decent and can be learned by a beginner. Source: my kid plays it and has enlisted my help occasionally making stuff in the studio

Brickadia - Early Access Launch Trailer

I’m surprised I’ve never heard of this, it looks like a mix of Gmod and Roblox that could be great. Currently 95% positive on Steam.

Roblox's hot gardening game gets a crack squad dedicated to new events after players kicked up over old ones being 'rushed and not very inspired'

Grow a Garden, one of Roblox’s most popular experiences, has addressed concerns from players regarding its last few updates on its Discord server. In a message shared to the announcement channel, developer Jandel said that “a lot of people have been critical of the last few updates,” saying that they feel “rushed and not very inspired” resulting in a huge number of players requesting older updates be brought back, such as the Hungry Plant or the Bee event. To combat these concerns, Grow a Garden has increased its team size and created two dedicated events teams so that they have “more than one week to create an event” and can work on two different events at the same time. Jandel went on to share “we hope having two teams working on different events gives us more time to polish and create things that are unique and more time to work on cool new features.” Hopefully this does make future events and updates more exciting than they have been—as much as I love the Prehistoric update and having dinosaurs roam around my yard. The message isn’t just an apology either, and there are quite a few features for players to get excited about. Firstly, Pet gifting has been reintroduced to the experience following its removal earlier this month. In the same message, Jandel shared the reason behind why this feature has taken so long to make its way back into the game, stating: “We actually had to completely rewrite our data backend to bring back Pet gifting. People were using an exploit to dupe pets, and we believe we have fixed that now. The good news is that this was the work that was required to allow for trading, so trading should be ready to go very soon.” A new feature is going to be introduced regarding Pets as well. Over the next week, a new machine will be available to put any level 100 Pets you have into it in return for unique mutations with “passives, buffs, and cosmetics.” But if you’re concerned about how slowly your pet is levelling up, don’t worry, craftable and buyable XP boosts for your animals are being added to help you get ahold of those mutations too. I convinced myself that I could easily win Squid Game, but after putting myself through the Roblox version it's clear that I absolutely would not walk away champion

I’m sure I’m not the only person who watched Squid Game and naively thought to themselves “yeah, I could probably do that one” about any of the challenges. From the comfort of my own couch, practically anything seems possible. Jumping over a skipping rope with a broken ankle? Done. Carving out a shape from dalgona? I’ve got a steady hand. Sometimes I’ve really convinced myself that I probably could walk away with all the money. But obviously if you actually put me into the position of a player, I would be utterly useless. I get sweaty hands the second a bit of pressure is put on me. The slightest threat and I’d probably crumble to my knees and, more than likely, cry. So, it’s a good job I’ll never actually find myself in Squid Game, but thanks to the amount of people who have recreated the experience for me in Roblox, I can at least give it a good go. There’s an overwhelming amount of Squid Game spin-offs circulating on Roblox at the moment, taking you through each of the show’s games individually, or even keeping you hostage for the entire thing and offering an in-game cash prize if you find yourself victorious after its randomised minigames. I expected them to be quickly cobbled together off the back of the popularity of the series, but I was met with detailed recreations of the show and minigames which actually stressed me out a bit. The experience I joined, Squid Game X, threw me into a lobby with a crowd of other players and assigned me a number before briskly sending me into my first game, Red Light Green Light. All of a sudden I felt that pang of fear. My palms started to get a bit clammy, my heart beat a bit faster. I know it’s literally just a game, and a game in Roblox of all things, but when you’re standing in front of that horrible doll singing its song and the sound of gunshots echoes through your headset, it does get you a little bit tense. Everybody wants to win the game they’re playing, but whether I was having a physical reaction to the competition or a reaction to the fear, I couldn’t tell you. The biggest knife to the back came from my fellow players though. In one of the more challenging minigames, Mingle, you’re tasked with getting into different rooms with a certain number of players within a time limit. If you don’t you’ll get shot and eliminated on the spot. It’s one of the more stressful games since you have to really rely on other players, but fortunately I soon partnered up with someone else and stuck with them. We sparked up a conversation while we camped in our little room, talking about the show, and devising a plan to help each other through the rest of the games. To my surprise, we successfully made it to the final challenge, the Squid Game. Only one player can make it out of this game and win the money, and I was face to face with my new best friend when we spawned in. We weren’t the only two players, so I expected them to turn to the others and push them out of the grid first—which was my first mistake. After wishing them good luck, the countdown began. I was facing the other players and ready to push, when all of a sudden my so-called friend rushed towards me and immediately shoved me out of the ring. There was no apology, no explanation as to why, they were just playing the game after all. I was immediately eliminated and sent back to the lobby, pleasantly humbled and completely reassured I would never make it through Squid Game. Which was the whole point of playing in the first place, I guess. I just wish I at least had a friend request to soften the blow slightly. From PCGamer latest via this RSS feed

Grow a Garden has added new pets, mutations, and a seed even better than the Candy Blossom as part of its newest update

Grow a Garden, Roblox’s most popular farming experience, rolled out its Prehistoric Update on July 5, adding new events, pets, and plants to get stuck into. Alongside its new additions, a number of quality of life changes have been made, such as the ability to shovel sprinklers and expand your pets inventory size. Unfortunately though, no changes have been made to players’ ability to steal from your garden, so that’s something you’ll still have to keep an eye out for. But if you’re bored of the summer seeds you’ve spent the last few weeks growing, you’ll be happy to know that eight new seeds have been added, including Bone Blossom, Fossilight, and the Horned Dinoshroom. The Ancient Seed Pack has been released hand-in-hand, with six new seeds inside to collect. A Prehistoric Quest is also available to complete in the centre of the yard, giving you the chance to unlock a seed “even better than” the coveted Candy Blossom, which frankly, I didn’t think was possible. These quests will see you through the week alongside your daily quests, giving you even more work to do each day. From what I’ve seen, the Prehistoric Quests are a bit more challenging than the dailies, and you’ll need to have slightly more expensive crops already grown and available to harvest in your garden. But, the rewards include things like Pet Eggs, Seed Packs and even Dino Crates filled with themed cosmetics to decorate your space with, which make the hard work worth it. Two travelling merchants will also make their way to the garden, the Summer Merchant, perfect for anyone who might’ve missed out on any of the rarer summer seeds, and the Honey Merchant. If you want to get a hold of some Bee Eggs to hatch yourself some new pets, then this might be your best opportunity. Speaking of pets, you’ll also be able to exchange your current pets in the hopes of getting a Dino Egg from the vendor in the middle of the map too. There’s no way to guarantee which egg you’ll get in exchange for your pets, so it’s not worth trading in your pride and joy, but if you do have a stash of pets you’re not sure what to do with then this saves you selling them. The rarer the pet, the more likely you are to get a Dino Egg and hatch something like a T-Rex or Brontosaurus. Otherwise, you might just walk away with a random egg and have to pray you didn’t make an unnecessary sacrifice. From PCGamer latest via this RSS feed

Roblox Hit With Multimillion-Dollar Suit By Los Angeles, for Creating Largely Unsupervised Online World That Enables Predatory Pedophiles and Give Them Powerful Tools to Prey on Kids

Roblox isn’t a daycare. It isn’t a school. It isn’t marketed to have any responsible adults online per number of players. But it’s a platform marketed towards children, takes a cut of the shovelware that other kids make, and didn’t bother policing their platform seriously until recently. The fact that it’s a kids game that’s marketed to kids and they go after people reporting on the abuses that they let run rampant on their platform is just mental to me. I really hope Roblox gets taken to the cleaners for how they actively have fucked around and let their platform get to where it is.

Roblox requiring 9yo kids to submit a video selfie for age verification [U: Global]

We finally blocked Roblox entirely in our house because it was making our kids assholes. All the little “safe” user-created minigames like Steal a Brainrot were having a pretty big effect on their behavior and things that they concerned themselves about. They would get into fights about whether or not one of them had a generator that could net them absurd, meaningless values like $1.7T/s and then take those arguments offline and still argue about whose Steal a Brainrot base was better. Or whatever. We watched an interview with the CEO of Roblox stomping on rake after rake after rake. He seemed mostly attuned to the growth of the platform and did not seem like safety was a really any sort of primary concern at all. He talked about things like this (continuuous facial recognition via the devices’s human facing camera) as if that would do anything to curb the behavior of adults abusing the platform. He seemed to be saying that What else would you get but safety with changes like this? I decided that I do not like that guy in particular and I don’t like his product either and my kids can have it back after they have defeated me and can figure out how the pi-hole works.

Roblox Is Being Sued By The State Of Louisiana

The concern was always there with regards to child safety on the net; I remember parents in the 90’s freaking out about predators lurking in AOL chat rooms. I think the difference these days is the scope and scale. There’s a lot of big money in Roblox, especially from people buying skins and accessories for their characters. And the predators love to use those to lure kids; “You don’t want to look like a noob, I can give you some pro skins, just chat with me for a bit on this other platform.” So there’s a direct financial incentive for Roblox to turn a blind eye to this problem because the problem makes them money.

A decentralised game hub?

Is there anything like this? Something like Roblox, but rather than using a central server, using a network of decentralised servers with different self-hosted instances (a bit like the fediverse, but for online multiplayer games) If there’s nothing like this, how difficult would it be to start something like this myself? edit: Or maybe something like Scratch, where you’re not tied to a specific movement system and can program whatever kind of game you want?
