Or under the age of 25. Nobody is voluntarily signing up for Instagram in the modern era. Hell, even TikTok is getting past its prime. They might as well be demanding my Spotify Playlist.

For real! I hate to watch video media for things like this. I mean, I’m on Lemmy and not tiktok or YT for a reason… The transcription with timestamps of the important taking points, chef’s kiss. Thanks op.

tl;dr: OceanGate Expeditions listed a job posting for a submersible pilot on its web site while a frantic search and rescue mission was underway for five missing tourists in the doomed Titan bound for the Titanic wreckage site. Social media was abuzz on Friday after screenshots of the ad, which was posted before the Coast Guard announced on Thursday that all five people aboard the Titan had perished, were widely circulated. OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush was among the five people who died in the Titan submersible. The passengers included 61-year-old OceanGate boss, Rush, as well as Titanic specialist Paul-Henri Nargeolet, UK billionaire explorer Hamish Harding and Pakistani billionaire and mogul Shanzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son, Sulaiman. I believe the US economy is entering a zombie state, buoyed by corruption and inertia it’s going to continue becoming less and less competitive until something chops the head off. Like, you can actually pay the administration to blacklist your competitors now. You can pay for favourable laws, or pardons, or exemptions. There’s going to be no real R&D anymore, and why bother when you don’t need to innovate, the government will just tariff your competition or ban them, or, force them to be “sold” like TikTok. So why should companies hire staff? Why not lay them all off and save money? You’re not going to get beat by real competition anyways.

Has anybody else noticed how when riots and protests pop up in non-American nations (not even enemy nations, just any other nation like Peru or France) basically the entire internet sides with the protesters. However when it’s the exact same conflict in the US, the reactionary news media and propaganda is so powerful that it overwhelms that and the “popular” position is to shit on the protests? Compare Reddit threads, YouTube comments, Instagram comments, TikTok comments, etc. between the riots in Argentina or Peru to the ones in LA. It goes from like 95% support to like 40% It really is remarkable the hold that the capitalists here have on the zeitgeist. American conservatives seem to be way better at controlling the conversation than conservatives in other places. We often make fun of the American population and how cowed it is, how much they let themselves get cucked and never protest in response. Part of that is whenever we try we get mocked by everyone and attacked from all directions at a scale that nobody else has to deal with. Our population is not just cowed and complacent, we are actively oppressive to ourselves. The masses seem to openly revile the act of standing up against the government, and take a vindictive glee in seeing the government crack down on people.

You realize that’s still true, right? You’re posting this as some big own as though it’s somehow not harmful to mindlessly consume any form of media to an extreme extent, especially in the learning years. Somebody been watching too many tik toks?
I was fine with memes over the past few years … sure they are a quick dopamine hit that make you laugh or think But now when my friends send me tiktok videos … especially when someone has been watching these video streams for hours or days … they start sending out the most random, inane, mindless content … it’s the kind of material that keep a monkey occupied.
Plenty of exploitation also happening of young men which has wide-ranging effects. This community seems to be mostly male (I’m guessing). Any opinions?
