Can we talk about the Roblox situation?

For those who don’t know, Roblox is a publicly traded company and they are down almost 2bn dol on the stock market because they are being accused of facilitating the sexual exploration and grooming of children. They just banned a player who was groomed by a roblox developer and then started a catch a predator project that resulted in the arrest of 6 adults accused of predating on children using the game. Chris Hansen contacted the player and they are doing a documentary on the sexual predation that occurs on the plataform. There is a class action, so if you are in the US and know someone who has been abused on roblox, you should contact them. I don’t know much about the situation, I just watched a couple articles about it. To top it all off, the CEO announced that roblox is pivoting to becoming a dating website. This is not the onion, fellers.

Kids Are Attending Pro-Palestinian Protests In Roblox

Well that headline is kinda bullshit. Kids these days are doing this. No 200 accounts out of millions did this. It’s not like this is a mass thing or even a common thing, just one thing a small group did. Roblox is huge, it has millions of daily active users.

Ubisoft and Tencent considering buyout, taking the company private - report

Taking it private just means taking it off the stock market (the news of it possibly going private has already cause the share price to spike). Honestly, public trading of games companies sucks anyway and is what drives all the shit you see from the likes of EA, Take Two, Roblox etc. Under private control, and less drive to bleed every drop of value out of every property might mean we can get classics like Beyond Good and Evil again.

Kids are roleplaying ICE agents in Roblox

I just watched a live interview with Taylor Lorenz. She said that everyone in the article was children between the age 11-17. She said that many of the children knew people who had been victims of ICE and some of the children were re-enacting things that they experienced. She also said that one child was shouting “No human is illegal” and shooting at ICE in roblox.

Which, in most circumstances, might come across as all-too-familiar hyperbole from a member of government looking for a moral panic to latch onto. It’s just, in the case of Roblox, it’s something that’s been demonstrated to be true over and over again. But no matter the accuracy, the question remains: What is the actual, practical purpose of this suit? “Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators,” says Murrill, “because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety. I swapped the entire school computers to linux mint

I love Linux. I’m running Linux and love the experience. But… ~~i7-4970~~ i7-4790 so running windows 10 with all its bloat was not going to be an easy task for em What in the world are you talking about, man?? Even ignoring the silliness of the “bloat” - i7-4790 eats Win10 alive and asks for seconds. I stated that as long as they dont know how to work with wine/lutris or know any specific linux packages that run windows games on linux they should not be able to play in the middle of lessons So… No, you didn’t stop them from doing that. All it takes for them to get back to playing games is to google “linux roblox how to” and 20 minutes later they’re good to go. Windows has AppLocker, and GPO to prevent running unwanted software - have you researched alternatives for Linux? does this mean linux now is ready for the education sector? Well, depends on scale. The setup you did is fine for, what, a single classroom? Two classrooms? It’s completely unusable for a larger school - for that you need an MDM solution, ideally with some form of IAM. In the Windows world that’s SCCM/Intune with AD/EID (local/cloud). Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s only bare-bones equivalents in the Linux world for that, which would be the bigger a problem the larger a school you’d be dealing with.
