Following recent wins by Minneapolis anti-ICE protests, ICE was forced to withdraw 700 agents from the city. The protests also led to the resignations of Greg Bovino and Trump toady Kristi Noem from the Department of Homeland Security. Recent protests in Detroit have similarly shut down several ICE detention facilities. Direct mobilizations against ICE have been working. Schroyer’s appointment marks the appearance of a new strategy. Instead of launching high-visibility, direct attacks on major cities, ICE is ramping up the weaponization of criminal indictments, such as those against the Minneapolis 15 and the Prairieland Nine, and focusing heavily on building partnerships with local and state police. These so-called 287(g) agreements remain in place in large parts of the country, including states governed by Democrats, while ICE places traps at courthouses and targets immigrants, often with the complicity of local police and courthouse employees. In announcing the appointment, newly-appointed DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin heaped praise on Schroyer, highlighting his experience running large-scale racial profiling at state level under ICE’s Operation Guardian, in which every trooper in the Oklahoma Highway Patrol effectively became a federal deportation officer. In one case, Schroyer’s program specifically targeted Asian commercial truck drivers. During a joint dragnet with ICE on Oklahoma’s Interstate 40, troopers executed 520 traffic stops resulting in 120 arrests. This single operation targeted commercial drivers from India, Uzbekistan, and China. Oklahoma governor J. Kevin Stitt issued a celebratory press release slamming other states’ “sanctuary” policies, warning the public of the dangers of foreign truckers. Colorado and Wyoming set up similar immigration dragnets. The racial focus of Shroyer’s “Operation Guardian” became crystal clear when Oklahoma troopers arrested Yingchao Fan, a Chinese national, following a highway rollover accident. Although Fan faced no criminal charges or traffic citations and was legally permitted to be in the United States, he was nevertheless handcuffed and brought to Sequoyah county jail, where he was then transferred to a CoreCivic facility by ICE. Fan’s move to a private prison complicated his lawyer’s efforts to file a habeus petition and demonstrated how poorly state troopers were trained and how important they viewed supporting the expansion of ICE. While federal officials frame such “sweeps” as public safety measures to keep the “worst of the worst off our streets,” they represent both politicized collaboration and financial opportunism. After Congress threw obscene amounts of money at ICE, thanks to $191 billion from the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” and another $70 billion for ICE, it allowed the agency in turn to dangle wads of cash before local police agencies eager to hire more officers, pay for overtime and high-tech toys — and also cash in on bounties for immigration arrests. Placing Lance Schroyer at the head of ICE is the clearest signal of the Trump regime’s tactical pivot in the face of massive public opposition, and a clear indicator of the hope ICE places in Schroyer’s ability to roll out localized, high-frequency, racially-based arrest machinery on a terrifying national scale. Regardless of who is at the head of ICE, we need to fight to abolish the agency and shut down all detention centers across the country. This fight must be independent of both Republicans and Democrats, since both portray themselves as “tough on the border” and have voted to expand ICE and DHS. We need to fight for full rights for immigrants — a fight that will require mobilizations in our workplaces, places of study, and unity with the immigrant rights and other social movements. Death toll rises to 1,943 as more than 25,000 emergency personnel continue relief operations. On Tuesday, Venezuelan Parliament President Jorge Rodriguez reported that search and rescue teams have so far rescued 6,461 people trapped beneath the rubble caused by the June 24 double earthquake. According to the latest official tally, the natural disaster left 1,943 people dead and 10,571 injured. RELATED: Venezuela: The People Save the People “As of June 30, thanks to heroic and tireless work, international and national rescue teams have managed to rescue 6,461 people alive,” he said. “Added to the 13,500 people who were able to escape on their own, 19,961 people have survived in La Guaira following the earthquakes of June 24,” Rodriguez added. Among those rescued is Fabiana, a girl whose smile has become an enduring symbol of the resilience of the Venezuelan people in the face of the devastation caused by nature. On June 28, the girl was found beneath the rubble that struck La Guaira and was freed after seven hours of arduous rescue efforts. During that time, she spoke calmly with rescuers, explaining that she could not see them because she was covered by “a little mountain of cement.” Medical personnel from India have deployed a fully equipped mobile hospital in the La Rinconada sector of Caracas. Her rescue operation involved multidisciplinary teams, including the Venezuelan Rescue and Medical Emergencies Group, the Special Actions Brigade and the Scientific, Criminal and Forensic Investigations Corps. Through social media, Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez confirmed the large-scale deployment of personnel to assist those affected by the disaster. Currently, more than 25,000 professionals, including firefighters, rescuers, police officers, military personnel, and emergency brigade members, are operating in the affected areas to mitigate the impact of the earthquakes and coordinate the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance. Florida Republican Representative Kat Cammack was widely criticized after opening up to reporter Tara Palmeri about having trouble accessing abortion for an ectopic pregnancy in Florida after she helped pass a six-week abortion ban in the state. Cammack told the Wall Street Journal that she faced delays in receiving treatment for a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy shortly after Florida’s six-week abortion ban took effect in May 2025. Cammack blamed those delays not on the law itself but on what she described as misleading messaging from abortion-rights advocates that had made healthcare workers fearful of legal repercussions, telling the Journal: “It was absolute fearmongering at its worst. There will be some comments like, ‘Well, thank God we have abortion services,’ even though what I went through wasn’t an abortion.'"

I’ll be honest, even without any of the previous adaptations, I would have 0 desire to watch this. Why would I want to watch a story that I’ve already seen done better? I can’t think of anything I would change from the original. Even The Divide gets a re-watch every time. And since the real world is bound by things animation isn’t, there will always need to be changes to the story. Unless the original makers can get unlimited funding, full and absolute control over the end product, and years of preparation time, I genuinely don’t think a live action adaptation can be done. Give me a live-action show set in the same world, at a different time. Or even the same time but the events of ATLA is background stuff, and MAYBE every so often we see an ATLA character directly. I’d watch that, I think.

Yeah, but we are warm and happy. Y’all cold weather people don’t make sense to us either. Nobody wants to sleep in a cold bed. We describe nice people as warm, icy people are bad. Nobody wants to relax in a hammock when it’s icy and windy out.

) I also posted this to Ask Lemmy, but I am interested in specifically other women’s perspectives as well. I have a bunch of hobbies, which range from female dominated to a solid mix of participants. However, for a hobby that has a good number of both men and women involved, there seems to be a gap in the participation and achievement levels in a way that mostly aligns with gender. A friend of mine mentioned we would have to look at how men engage with hobbies. Do you feel that the ways men and women engage with hobbies generally, but especially when they share the same hobby still differs?

I added Reddit to my age verification bypass extension! Age verification is everywhete, so I’m making an add-on for #firefox to bypass age verification on many platforms! https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/age-verification-bypass/ , source code at https://github.com/helloyanis/age-verification-bypass I just added Reddit to the list of supported sites! It can now automatically remove the NSFW log-in popup when viewing NSFW subreddits. (Yes I know we have Lemmy on the fediverse, but I think it can still be useful!) If you don’t have Firefox, or want a more private experience, you can also use a front-end like redlib at https://redlib.catsarch.com/ to avoid communicating with Reddit entirely, and you don’t even need my extension on that one! (Video shows off the concept but doesn’t show any actual nsfw contents) @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] #ageverification #web #privacy #reddit

all the search engines out there have been so enshittfied that I have to lean on a chatbot for help getting answers I’m sorry, yes the search engines suck and are getting worse, but you really don’t actually. You simply don’t have to. A chatbot provides the illusion of a perfectly tailored answer every time, and leads us to expect that, with little to no effort, but it’s an illusion, it’s highly likely to be wrong, answering a different question than you actually meant to ask, etc. And even if it was actually just giving you great quality answers every time and google or DDG or whatever couldn’t find them, you still don’t have to use the slop machine. Sometimes things might take multiple searches, background reading, asking another human, or, occasionally, you might just not find the answer. And that’s okay.

It’s mostly just like, swimsuits were a huge source of dysphoria for me early transition. Wearing one now and straight up just looking like a cis woman in it feels just, incredible. Like the last bit of dysphoria I have around my body shape is pretty much gone now. Even my tuck was flawless.

Good advice, except with the current government it’ll only lead to you landing in a few more databases and the library getting closed anyway. Which is to say, go for it. Get added to so many government databases that they’ll think it’s a bug. No way this girl is part of 713 terrorist groups. Unless… yeah, let’s just go for the grandpa who posted “why hasn’t Trump made America great again yet?” on Facebook.

Not just that, I know that anyone like that would also be insisting that Israel is just a smol bean innocent good guy nation defending themselves from the evil arabs. It’s actually kind of amazing how I’ve never seen someone who believes both Palestine and Xinjiang are genocides. It’s almost like they know the Xinjiang propaganda is complete bullshit but it lets them be racist against Chinese people and get away with it.

OK lemme ask you a dum question: when they say “that’s life living in a small town”, do they mean the person CURRENTLY lives in a small town selling jeans, or the person “GAVE UP” living in a small town and now sells jeans? And is selling jeans considered bad or stereotypical in some way? Or is it intentionally ambiguous? I feel there’s some context related to small towns that I’m missing…

I wonder if removedly ignoring design flaws is just a way to maintain sanity in a dangerously insane world, like immigrants who vote for Trump ignore that he’s genocidally racist because acknowledging the truth is immensely disruptive emotionally.
A group of geladas monkeys (Theropithecus gelada), pictured above, huddle to keep warm on a cold day in the Wilhelma Zoo in Stuttgart, Germany. Endemic to Ethiopia’s cold Afroalpine and sub-Afroalpine grasslands, the species is the only primate, apart from humans, that primarily lives on land rather than trees. They spend most of their time grazing grass and have complex social systems focused around vocal communication, hugging, and grooming, especially between females. “On this day … the chill in the air made ideal conditions for a gelada group hug that included some mutual grooming,” Julie Larsen, Mongabay’s photo editor, said of the moment she captured in 2014. “As I looked down on their gathering, the monkey in the middle peered up at me, clearly benefitting from her fortunate position,” she added. “Then, the group closed over her, a single blanket of chocolate-colored shaggy fur against the elements.” According to Dario Fraschetti, a scientific assistant at Wilhelma Zoo, animals with short hair, as in the photograph, are likely females. Males have distinctive long manes and a bright red mark on their chests. Of the 30-40 gelada monkeys that live at the zoo, the vast majority are females, which is similar to their social structure in the wild. The zoo participates in a Europe-wide effort to keep a healthy captive-bred population of the species in partnership with EAZA Ex situ Programme (EEP). Hugging between females in the wild has been observed to increase between unrelated mothers during the first months of their…This article was originally published on Mongabay From Conservation news via This RSS Feed.
