Every year for a dozen years our dog would get so traumatized by fireworks that you could literally hear her teeth chattering. We’d turn up loud music in the house, and make her a bed in a closet, but she’d still bolt out and look for anywhere where it was less noisy or safer (there wasn’t such a place, but we couldn’t convince her of that). She’d jump into the bathtub or claw her way into a different closet, only to bolt away to find a better spot at the next explosion. And neighbors would light off the occasional firework until like 2 or 3 in the morning. We couldn’t go off and leave her. I grew to really hate the 4th. She died a couple months ago, so I guess that’s no longer a problem for us personally, but I know we aren’t the only ones with sensitive pets.

If yes, then I’m currently having a TON of fun with Donkey Kong Country 2: The Lost Levels, and am eagerly awaiting the 1.0 release of DKC4.

Being “zero waste” means that we adopt steps towards reducing personal waste and minimizing our environmental impact. Our community places a major focus on the 5 R’s: refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rot. We practice this by reducing consumption, choosing reusable goods, recycling, composting, and helping each other improve. We also recognize excess CO₂, other GHG emissions, and general resource usage as waste.

The largest U.S. oil company and its consortium partner, QatarEnergy, consider the most likely option for getting the gas to market would be conveying it through a pipeline to existing processing facilities in Egypt where it can be liquefied for export, ExxonMobil’s Vice President of Global Exploration John Ardill said. Other options including building onshore facilities in Cyprus or a floating one in waters over the deposits are considered too costly at this point. “Everything you’ve seen between the government of Cyprus and the government of Egypt gives us a lot of confidence that there’s good government to government coordination, the agreements in place to leverage that eastern Mediterranean energy hub concept,” Ardill said. He was speaking after ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy signed a deal with Cyprus declaring the two deposits commercially viable. The deposits — dubbed Glaucus and Pegasus — are located in Block 10 of Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and are estimated to hold together roughly 7 trillion cubic feet of gas. You can still buy homes in US cities for under $150k. I just looked up my first home. I paid $37k in 1996, sold it for $74k in 2007, it’s worth about $125k now. It’s not a great location, but there are good jobs around St. Louis. If you want to live in an Instagram home in a big coastal city, I have no sympathy. The sad part is that I make less money today than I did in 1996, not even factoring inflation. Inflation isn’t so terrible if wages move with it, but wages are completely stagnant even as prices double. I can’t afford to move. I’ve been stuck in my current home since I bought it. I just hope I’m able to pay it off before I’m no longer able to work.
