Felt bad about not including some books in this post–I always like to recommend further reading when I can–so I came back to this thread after finishing dinner when I can crack open my library. China’s Path to Development: Against Neoliberalism, Ali Kadri is a great look at the functions of imperialism as a waste-commodity producing system, and Chinese economic development in the face of neoliberal wars of encroachment. (The Accumulation of Waste: A Political Economy of Systemic Destruction is where the theory is most strongly laid out, but the one I recommended gives a decent overview and really hones in on China’s refusal of the world neoliberal order.) Gender Policy and HIV in China: Catalyzing Policy Change, Dr. Qiang Ren, Prof. Baochang Gu, Prof. Xioayin Zheng (this one is more a policy analysis, but gives a lot of insight into sexual policy in China, especially in regards to sex work (which has traditionally been on the fringes of “queer” sexual theorizing). A Society Without Fathers or Husbands: the Na of China, Cai Hua (not traditionally “queer” per LGBT theorizing, but the Na are a culture in the Himalayan region that practice communal child rearing, which has historically been attacked by Christian colonial missionaries in Turtle Island and abroad as a perverse and “queer” family form that very much falls outside of the cisheteronormative social structure).
This is part of a whole thing where the journalist keeps presenting their framing without question. Is it “allow their neighbours to live in the second house rent free, in exchange for childcare” or is it “they have unpaid live-in nannies in a staff apartment”? Do they “give everything they can spare to charity” or are they landlords who own property they don’t live in? Is she wearing a corset and chemise from etsy because it’s practical, or because these weirdos have put on staged cosplay performances for every journalist who’s ever interviewed them, and you’re no exception?
And why cosplay as a doctor anyway?

A state that is captured by the voting power of land over individuals. Missouri state government is completely beholden to the hoosiers in the boonies because there are more rural counties even though there are far less rural people. And then secondarily the rural people are propped up by dumbass McBee-wannabe suburbanites that vote conservative and wear cowboy boots recreationally. Governor HeeHaw 2.0 is one such dumbass suburbanite who went to Chaminade in St. Louis, grew up rich, and now cosplays as the hoosier’s champion Missouri at large is far more purple than the state government allows it to appear. It was purple for a long time and its still purple today, but a purple state that gives more voting power to land than people ultimately ends up red. Just look at our federal electoral system, its the same thing
