Some people can think in 7 dimensions at once, or so they say. For those of us who struggle to even contemplate a hypercube, we may not even begin to realize how impressive that must be. Then again, that is only one form of IQ, and EQ is still entirely separate. Still, how could an eagle even begin to describe to a turtle what life is like? Not that an eagle is “better” and a turtle “worse”, but despite coinhabiting the same “world” as in physical space, they do experience that world according to SUCH different criteria that they essentially live in separate realities, like different dimensions of that “world”. As you said. Similarly in the USA, a white person can call out to a police officer and have some expectation of receiving immediate help, whereas a black person might get the literal opposite of help if they tried the same action. Rich or beautiful people likewise receive differential treatment - the same location, the same experiences, but received against a backdrop of a different lifestyle. Getting fired, or divorced, may just be laughed off by those who would be “set free” by such, vs. someone for whom that is their last thread. It is “the same”… yet so very, Very, VERY different! The tortise and the eagle, or the hare. The irony there is that mathematics is pretty much the one universal constant. English, or French, or other languages may vary in their interpretation, and even Logic itself becomes subsumed by mere Justification in human hands. Even programming languages differ - identical syntax may be interpreted differently by C, C++, Java, etc. - though it does come fairly close when you specify all of the code, the language, and the receiving device, which together deterministically implements the mathematical instructions via the flow of electrons in the physical world. Math made real - pattern becomes substance (or something else even cooler-sounding, I dunno:-P). Speaking of I have not read a Satanic one - surely there must be more than one type? - but I would give it a chance if I ever came across it. There’s a lot to like there. Also a lot I do not like, but that is the same with literally everything. Not quite the same thing, but on a related note: most pagan religions “lost” the war against Christianity, which I feel like gives the latter some credence. Although… ofc it is not that Christianity “won”, so much as that they “lost” - a HUGE distinction. Perhaps Christianity will lose someday as well… or maybe Jesus is a space/reality alien and when the energy beings come to enslave the human race, those of us who follow it will have been more properly prepared to serve the new overlords? (after all, if Might makes Right, especially for a being - like the owner of The Matrix - who literally can MAKE a Universe, then they do get to call the shots, whether we like it or not) Yeah, that’s pretty out there, so I will bring us back to: who knows, really? Nobody, at least not perfectly, though we try to do the best we can, as far as we know at the time. I do not believe in wasted time either… although just try telling that to a boss! Those with more authoritarian mindsets are not capable of accepting this aspect of the Universe, and I concede too that there must be a Balance. So wtf does that even mean - that it both is a waste of time, yet that waste was itself not a waste!? Yes. You get me. It is a contradiction, and within that paradox lies such beauty as to take our breaths away. Yin and Yang - not one or the other, but fucking both, always and never not that. You also have a beautiful perspective on abusers: sometimes they do not mean it, sometimes they do but are not “evil”, sometimes they are but… so what? We still gotta roll how we want to, not just always react to however others want, or even not want, us to. We chase after our goals, and they do whatever little thing they want, and we need not even break our stride as we press onwards. This point was REALLY driven home for me HARD when Trump won the 2016 election. Conservatives just did not give two fucks about “him”, but they liked what he could do for them… it was quite strategic. Raw. Naked. Bleeding. Evil incarnate… and therefore beautiful for all of that? Like that movie Haunting of Hill House: a darkness that shines as bright as the stars themselves - and all the more deadly as a result of that. Jon Stewart tried to warn us, he foresaw that and said how “liberal media aims to be correct, but conservative media aims to be effective”. This is why I have lost faith in democracy: it depends on presuppositions, specifically that the voting citizenry are aiming to vote correctly, and that errors are distributed randomly; however it is vulnerable to an outside attack that cause all the errors to bend in a single direction: towards the will of the evil ones (whoever they may be - Putin, Bezos, Musk, and others who prefer to hide deeper in the shadows). Oh well. Like everything else: I will enjoy it while I can. But anyway, you were speaking of smaller-scale abuses, like a turtle crying over something to another turtle, never realizing that e.g. taking a long time to speak could be agonizing to an eagle (or the analogy works far better in reverse:-D). Many people do not realize it. Many others do realize it but do not care:-(. Some even realize it, care, and enjoy it:-|!? But if you get overwhelmed, you cannot help anyone else, least of all yourself, so yeah, guard your heart, most definitely. Literall nobody else can do it for you (well, they can help though:-). I want to share with you a phrase that I have always hated: “If you see yourself in others, whom can you harm?” Whoever invented that must have had two loving parents, and can just fuck right off as far as I am concerned for rubbing that in the faces of those of us who did not. Setting that aside, part-way, even if you gave zero thought to your own welfare and cared exclusively for others, you STILL need to take care of yourself, or you will not be able to do that! (for very long) YOU ARE A PEOPLE TOO!!! I really like how the Bible portrays that: “the measuring procedure that you use to levy judgement upon others is the identical process by which you will use to judge yourself”. People either suck, in which case you do, or they are worthwhile, in which case… say it with me… you are worthwhile too:-P. I have fought against this every hour of every day of my entire life, but it is True nonetheless. I HATE that thought… but I can’t fight physics, or in this case the more relevant part is that it is just how human psychology works. I do not know much, but this is one that I do feel certain about, and I hope sharing these thoughts help you too (and by extension, perhaps me as well?:-P). I am glad that you are going through such a time of change, to be able to get frissons!:-) I have been closing off so much lately that it will take some time to open up again:-(. But that too… is not a waste of time (except it is, but even so - it is what must be:-). I almost wonder why he says “I’m sorry”, b/c it is the Right thing to do, though I get that he does feel guilt for it too, but still there is that nagging thought: is that a slight admission of doubt, that he is not entirely certain that it is the correct path? And like, he could have said “I need to choose Me”, but instead he chose the other wording… so I wonder, what does that mean? I am probably over-thinking it, and quite frankly the intricacies hardly matter, b/c the main thing is what it means to you. I am SOOO glad that it gives you peace - b/c yes gurl you NEED to get that!:-) About me saying that I accomplish Mastery of my Mind, I wanted to be sure that I conveyed that I feel like I cannot win when it becomes a “struggle” - even at best if one side or the other were to totally conquer the opponent, then I overall would lose. So by “giving in to my desires”, I mean not fighting it, nor letting it win either, but striving to achieve that Yin/Yang balance of winning when and where most needs to happen at each given moment, the trick being to find what that is. Some things I have practiced enough to have a really good idea of precisely where that line is, while other things I severely struggle on a daily basis to even identify the factors involved. As I suspect we all do, at least those of us who allow ourselves to remain open to adventure rather than falling prey to stagnation. Hehe, this music is good for other reasons too:-D.

I use rclone as well and was in your position not long ago (looking for a non complicated backup solution). Landed on rclone based on feedback and what I read online. Spent about an hour reading rcl one’s documentation and built a script to do the backups daily. OP if you go the rclone route, I can share my template script with you to get you started. The script is pretty simple: makes sure there’s a logging file created on the system ahead of time, timestamps, the actual backup job, error checking, notification via discord (success or failure) and log output to the file created above. Edit: I forgot to mention that recently (don’t know exactly when) Proxmox released something call Proxmox Backup Server (PBS). I have not used it but I imagine it integrates well with your Proxmox cluster but even then you may want to look at a complimentary solution to backup that server too. Edit: Even if you go with Proxmox Backup Server, you may want to thinking about how you backup the backup server. Preferably off site, in my opinion.

@Alllo Btw, there’s one template that I refer to as “honorable mentions” that helps me to create the changelog page for the Power Name Generator, Perchancio: https://perchance.org/perchancio, you can basically create your own ToS or a help guide for your generator with that, thanks to its multi-page management. I also want to mention that there’s https://perchance.org/periko, which is essentially Perchancio, but has a different interface and apparently better formatting management.

Oh it sounds lovely! I’d love to see what the little octopus(-pattern) looks like once it’s done. The crochet hooks sound really helpful for the arthritis, I can imagine how much you would have to move your fingers if you were to try something without them, so I’m very happy to hear they enable you to do something that makes you happy. I finished a little merperson doll a while back, all made from fabric and wadding. I don’t use templates because I’ve always been horrible at sticking to a template in any circumstance, so I just go by my gut feeling and draw some lines on the fabric, then cut it out, sow it together, and fill it with wadding. The tricky part about the merperson were the hairs. I use wool, cut it into little strings and sow them onto the head of the doll, then use a fine comb to separate the individual strands. The result is, after multiple hours of untangling wool, a very curly-haired merperson. The project I started but didn’t continue (yet) afterwards is supposed to become a dragon, but I’m still debating on the shape of certain parts of the body. Right now, I just have a very long, adorable head and a neck that is open at one end lol

It’d be nice to have a rule specifically for the use of f-strings and template formatting in the same call, since that can easily be a security vulnerability.

I have template iptables/nftables rules on my devices on the network that I can just copy and paste to a machine to have a firewall that works (with tweaks specific to that device). With it I can tell it to send all logs of my choice through syslog-ng to my server just by installing it and telling it the destination, allowing me to have (already made) alerts and dashboards on every device on my internal network. My router runs Linux (openwrt) and allows me to do something other routers can’t do because I’m able to add a module into the kernel: permit switch-level firewall access. What this means is I don’t need (but do still have) VLAN to restrict traffic between devices. I can block firewall access completely at the router level before a device is tweaked to also add additional security (e.g. helps prevent my smart tv from probing every device on my network to gather information. Or if I purchase a malicious hardware online, it won’t know the rest of the network exists because the router doesn’t tell it unless I say it’s okay). That’s firewall stuff. System security: can compile and modify the kernel to just the modules and such I want, lowering the scope of issues from a kernel level vulnerability. I can be very granular with file and directory permissions with a single command in the terminal. I can easily track file metadata changes down to just about anything you can think of with simple tools, like aide. Python scripts through cron and inotify can help me monitor when something sus happens on my machines. Most of all this being done on Windows or Mac would require extra effort to work correctly, and not to mention probably cost money for software that can do the same but isn’t free. Also not entirely sure a router can be setup on either of those OS.

Hmm, it’s hard to say whether this should be expected behavior. I think messing with the innerHTML/innerText/textContent of a ‘templated’ HTML node is currently undefined/unspecified behavior unless someone has strong opinions that they can defend here. Are there use cases that you can point to, which point to a desirable behavior here? Or anything that points to clearly-wrong behavior? In any case, I’ve added it to https://perchance.org/known-bugs as something to think about

which must be used in conjunction with Pulseaudio Why? Just why? any kind of multimedia work, it doesn’t really matter and you can just stick with whatever comes pre-configured on your distro. But my vote goes to Pipewire as the best server for pretty much anyone. Or gaming. PulseAudio has insane latency. Use JACK or no server(that means use ALSA). Maybe Pipewire has tolerable latency, but I didn’t test it myself.

With this bat house all the pieces need to be stained, so I had to fabricate all the individual parts first, before I could start assembly (sometimes I make the parts as I go). I started by finding plywood in the specific thicknesses, 1/2 inch and 3/8ths inch. Because I was working with old scrap, I found the straightest sides and measured everything from there. I like to measure six or more different points, use my level as a straight edge to draw the line, check that it’s square, then measure to a couple different spots on that line to make sure it’s in the correct spot. A friend I helped with a project jokingly rewrote the saying as measure twice, cut never, never stop measuring. I used the skillsaw to cut the plywood pieces to size, making sure to keep the blade on the outside of my lines. You could do this with a hand saw but it would take awhile. I then measured the pieces to make sure they were correct. I measured 3" in from the top and sides of the baffles and drew lines parallel to the top and sides. Then I used thos to figure out how to position 1 1/2" diameter circles so their tops and sides were 3" from the edges. I used a hole saw (add that to the list) and the drill press to cut passage holes through the baffles. You can use a hole saw with a screw gun but they holesaws have a lot more friction and leverage so they have a lot more torque than a regular drill bit. That means if they catch hard and don’t want to cut, the screw gun or work can try to spin instead. Using a drill press eliminates one option and gives me better leverage to hold the work by. Next I used the Dremel to cut slots into the plywood for the bats to climb. Later on, I used the skillsaw with the blade mostly retracted instead. Either one seemed fine. You could use a table saw for the same task. Without those, I think you’d have to use a knife or try to score it with a hand saw which would be difficult. This step took a lot of time, you need to do both sides of the baffles, and the inside of the front and back. Next I started the spacers between the baffles. I ignored the instructions to cut a good board lengthwise and just dug up lots of small scraps and sanded them on the belt sander until they were 3/4" on at least one direction (which would be the distance between the baffles). I didn’t worry about getting the length right yet, just made sure there was enough for when I did assembly. To fabricate the two sides, I found a pine board that was the correct width, measured out the angle I think using a little angle measure thing I found in a free stuff pile (you could use a protractor or printed paper template) and cut the diagonal which would become the top using a hand saw. I also cut one horizontally to bring the length down so they matched. I always try to check each board and identify the worst spots so I can put them in the part that gets cut off, if possible. I ran it through a laser cutter at a makerspace for fun, but thats not necessary. Then I cut the side vents. I used a hand saw to cut the horizontal parts of the cutout (the top and bottom), then used a band saw to cut in diagonally from one, curving to level out along what would become the vertical part of the cutout. Then I repeated the process going the other way to get a nice rectangular cutout. You could also do this part using a hand saw to cut lots and lots of horizontal cuts, forming thin fins you can snap off to remove them. Or you could cut the top and bottom with the hand saw and use the Dremel with a cutting wheel to cut the vertical. I cut the roof to length with a hand saw. I stained everything on the inside of the house with water-based stain. Normally I use oil based stain, I think it works better, but it offgasses fumes for awhile and that would be bad for the bats. Normally I put stain on using paper towels, old takeout napkins, etc, but with all the slots cut, I found it was easier to use a brush. Normally I save my brushes for urethane (a friend would grind her teeth if she heard this whole process) because I don’t like cleaning them, but with water based stains they clean up with soap and water. Definitely easier for a beginner. So I guess add paint brushes to the list too. I did the outside with oil-based stain using my usual method. The actual assembly was fairly quick, kind of like building something from a kit because I didn’t have to stop and fabricate parts too much. I stood the two sides on the table, one front-up one front-down. The front-down one I laid a thin line of caulking on. Then took the back plate, faced it front-down, and I lined it up with that edge lined up well with the front-down side. I pre-drilled a hole, changed bits, chamfered the hole using the but, and drove in a screw. I repeated that process down that side. Then I flipped the other side, caulked the back, lined it up, and repeated the process. That was the hard part, especially working solo, trying to keep everything balanced. I flipped it over, put the front plate on to check the fit, and noticed that the sides were angled outwards and wouldn’t have a good fit for the front plate. I grabbed a bar clamp and squeezed them together so until they lined up correctly. Then the fun part. I added some spacers along the inside of the walls, trying to get the best use of the available length. I cut them as necessary and used short screws to attach them to the back. Then I dropped in a baffle, screwed it to the spacers. Picked and cut more spacers, attached them. The next baffle didn’t fit well so I used the belt sander to sand one edge and make it fit. If I hadn’t, it would have caused the sides to spread, and would have acted as a fulcrum if I tried to pull the sides together later. Once it fit I screwed it in place. More spacers, next baffle for a test fit. This one seemed bowed, it didn’t leave enough space for the bats to go between it and the front, so I sanded down the spacers a bit, until it seemed good. Then I put those together. Then I put the front plate on. I actually had to clamp it more to get a good fit because it the sides had still spread. I screwed one side to the front so they lined up well, used the clamps to pull the sides together, and screwed the front to the other side. Then I did the lower front panel the same way.

Zigbee Sure. I think Zigbee/Matter are proprietary standards. And you don’t have too much control over how it is implemented in the individual devices and any possible security vulnerabilities. It is a separate network though and easy to use. I bought a small Gateway to connect it to Home Assistant after the USB stick I was initially using showed some compatibility issues. What I really like are those cheap chinese devices that have ESP8266 or ESP32 microcontrollers in them. I can flash Tasmota or Esphome on them, take control and have them run free software. No manufacturer’s cloud needed and updates indefinitely. Yeah, and we recently talked about smart/dumb appliances. In this household there are lots of older appliances anyways. And we moved a few years ago so they’re just old enough that none of them have wifi. I think that has changed since. Nowadays it’s not an extra 150€ for wifi anymore, but part of most appliances. And you get an App along with your new diswasher per default. I like “smart” with lighting. And having the washing machine turn on 2h before I get home is a huge convenience. Apart of that, I’d like the heating unit to be smart, but it isn’t. I think we could save some energy if the gas heating stopped after everyone left. There is no steady weekly schedule I could program into the central unit, so it’s just some radiators I can turn down. Apart from that, I don’t think I have a good use-case for a smart diswasher, fridge or a bugging device that can play music. [Intel ME] it is essentially at ring 0 I don’t like it either. It’s just a very stupid design choice to have some uncontrollable extra chips run god knows what with highest privileges. And in the past people already discovered several security vulnerabilities. And there is no alternative to it. I think AMD does the same. And coreboot is a bit niche. I’d have to put quite some effort in and make some trade-offs. And it doesn’t have to be this way. I don’t think the embedded controller firmware is a super valuable trade-secret anyways. They probably keep it a secret and locked down for shady reasons or because they don’t want people to see the amount of vulnerabilities in it. I don’t think it would do Intel or AMD any harm to just open up that part of the system.
