Graham Platner shrugs off scandals to win Maine Democratic Senate primary

It’s because people are showing up and voting FOR Platner. Looking at previous Maine Democratic Primary for Senate. Six years ago Sarah Gideon got 116,264 votes out of 162,681. This time around Graham Platner got 149,206 votes out of 207,068. Platner is getting people to show up. This is a good sign going into the general.

Ford's $30,000 EV pickup is getting closer - You may even see one out in the wild

I see the anti-truck crowd is alive and well over here. Never had anything blow off, if it’s that lightweight I have ratchet straps. If there is rain I would use a tarp if I didn’t want it getting wet. Never had anything stolen either. Trucks are way easier to load and unload, and I can fit taller objects easily. Longer objects as well. I really don’t have much interest in hauling horse manure in a van or SUV. Same goes for firewood and bee colonies. I also have a trailer which is awesome and sees a ton of use. Obviously plenty of people don’t use a truck for these things, but I really don’t care what others do with them. In fact it’s awesome having a used truck market clean trucks that have never been put into 4x4.

Video - “The U.S. government knows that Cuba is not a threat”

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/48568140 Duration - 0:55 In recent days, the Cuban United Nations Association (ACNU) warned of the humanitarian consequences of a possible U.S. military attack. ACNU President Norma Goicochea said that “the U.S. government knows…Cuba is not an extraordinary threat” to the United States or any other country. She also warned that a military intervention would have devastating consequences for civilians, including children, women and the elderly. “Cubans have the right to be happy. We have the right to live in peace. Ultimately, we have the right to live.”

The reason for it being called the Goldwater Rule is that he sort of caused this to happen. 2: The Fuentes Rule This is more or less a Rule 1.1, but also contains more specific information about far-right content here. First of all, if it is used for a quote then that is mostly okay unless there is Racism in the quote. But otherwise it is banned. 3: The Trump Rule You can not glorify Trump here. Trump says he 'loves the inflation' as US prices rise at fastest rate in three years

::: spoiler spoiler Donald Trump has said he “loves the inflation” facing the US as prices in May rose at their fastest rate in three years. The US president said the “numbers were great” when asked about Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) figures showing prices rose by 4.2% in May from a year earlier. The increase, from 3.8% in April, was largely driven by rising energy costs in the wake of the US Israel war in Iran. Speaking from the White House, Trump said: “I love it. The numbers were great. You know what? I really love the inflation.” The president went on to claim US forces have conducted nighttime operations in which tens of ships have removed millions of barrels of oil from Iran, contributing to a slight drop in oil prices. The global benchmark for oil, Brent crude, is still trading significantly higher than pre-war levels. Wednesday marked the third month in a row the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen, with households increasingly feeling the strain of the US and Israel’s war in Iran. Higher inflation raises the likelihood of the US Federal Reserve raising interest rates in a bid to curtail spending. The last time inflation was higher was in April 2023, when the US was still grappling with the fallout from the energy shock sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Overall energy bills including gas and electricity were almost a quarter higher in May than a year earlier, with petrol responsible for much of the increase. According to separate figures from motoring group the AAA, the average price of a gallon of regular petrol in the US is currently $4.15, a sharp increase from $2.98 on February 28, when President Donald Trump launched strikes on Iran. In response to the strikes, Iran has effectively shuttered the crucial Strait of Hormuz waterway, typically responsible for shipping around a fifth of the world’s oil and gas which has resulted in a surge in prices. Elsewhere, the BLS pointed to the increasing cost of plane tickets, personal and medical care, recreation and communication. The CPI is a measure of how much prices have risen in a given month compared to the same month a year prior. The Fed’s long-term inflation target is 2%. May’s inflation increase captures the challenge facing President Trump and the Republicans ahead of November’s midterm elections. Economists have warned that, even with a swift resolution to the war, it could take until 2027 for the the normal flow of goods through the Strait of Hormuz to be restored. It raises the prospect of Americans heading to the polls under the strain of significantly higher prices, following a 2024 campaign in which Trump promised cutting inflation would be at the heart of his agenda. Trump previously said he does not think about the cost of living facing Americans “even a little bit” in the context of the war, stressing “we can not let Iran have a nuclear weapon, that’s all”. Trump went on to promise inflation will “come down like a rock” when the war with Iran is over. “When this conflict is over… you will see oil drop to where it was before,” he told reporters in the White House. The president pointed to a trip to Iowa in early 2026, saying he saw petrol selling for $1.85 per gallon, adding that “we will be back at those levels very soon”. Higher inflation also poses a challenge for Kevin Warsh, the new governor of the Fed, ahead of his first interest rate decision in charge of the central bank next week. When inflation is significantly above the Fed’s target rate, the central bank’s board of governors typically moves to raise interest rates. This in turn pushes up borrowing costs and restricts the flow of money in the economy, limiting further price hikes and bringing inflation under control. In the run up to Warsh’s appointment, Trump repeatedly called on his predecessor, Jerome Powell, and the central bank to cut interest rates. Economists expect rates to remain at their current level, between 3.5% and 3.75%, next month, but warned further evidence of inflation persisting could force the Fed into an increase. Stephen Brown, chief North America economist at Capital Economics, said May’s rise alone was “not large enough to prove any ammo” to those on the Fed’s rate-setting committee who want to push interest rates up. But Isaac Stell, investment manager at asset manager Wealth Club, said an interest rate hike is “the most logical conclusion from today’s data combined with last week’s blow-out jobs numbers”. :::

Nobody needs AI to search the Internet, court says in ruling against Google

Yeah, they have to fight it tooth and nail, because it threatens how they want to do business on a conceptual level. But I also cannot see how they would argue this case. If another webpage said those publishers are a right removed (written by AI), that would be defamation for sure. So far, Google was allowed to say those publishers are a right removed, because they were quoting another webpage. If they’re not doing that anymore, if they’re not even paraphrasing what another webpage said, but just making own claims, then that’s their own responsibility. In theory, I could imagine a ruling that says that paraphrasing doesn’t have to be accurate at all times, but in practice, this would be absolute bedlam. Any webpage could publish the wildest misinformation and just say that, oops, they were paraphrasing. So, even if they can get such ruling through, there would need to be law changes sooner or later, which explicitly make it illegal again.

@50years_music

@50years_music @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] I stopped keeping up with pop culture a long time ago, but every now and then I check somebody’s Wiki and discover they were cooler than I thought. I just went to see if Trent Reznor turned out to be a creep. No, he’s not, which fits with my theory that actually talented people are rarely creeps; it’s the half asses with imposter syndrome that turn out all rapey. Anyway, Trent is the polar opposite of Metallica: “In May 2007, Reznor made a post on the official Nine Inch Nails website condemning Universal Music Group—the parent company of the band’s record label, Interscope Records—for their pricing and distribution plans for Nine Inch Nails’s 2007 album Year Zero.[150] He labeled the company’s retail pricing of Year Zero in Australia as “ABSURD”, concluding that “as a reward for being a ‘true fan’ you get ripped off”. Reznor went on to say that as “the climate grows more and more desperate for record labels, their answer to their mostly self-inflicted wounds seems to be to screw the consumer over even more.”[151] Reznor’s post, specifically his criticism of the recording industry at large, elicited considerable media attention.[152] In September 2007, Reznor continued his attack on Universal Music Group at a concert in Australia, urging fans there to “steal” his music online instead of purchasing it legally.[153] Reznor went on to encourage the crowd to “steal and steal and steal some more and give it to all your friends and keep on stealin’.”[154]” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trent/_Reznor#Personal_life

I Am Leaving The U.S. Due To Political Despair And I'm Curious About Your Guy's Thoughts

They’re going to have to come and lock me up or kill me or something because I won’t be scared out of my home, I won’t be demoralized into giving up on my home. My hope will never die. America has been fascist more less it’s entire history, crimes worse than the Nazis all throughout. This isn’t some new development, it’s an unmasking, an unraveling of everything they hide behind. Rather than backing off now is the time to ramp up the pressure. Sometimes in order to win a fight you have to put yourself in a position where you get rocked in the face really hard. I’m not scared to get hit, I see more to gain than there is to lose. My confidence will never waver; I’m not going to roll over and give them my country just because they’ve barred their teeth at me.
