What hobby is this? There is no doubt a history that would explain why this is. Perhaps it was simple more popular with women over a longer period of time, etc. Hobbies wax and wane over time, and sometimes are also regional, cultural, or age-specific. Certain kinds of dancing, for example, only really are practiced among certain cultural groups and genders. I mean, there is a reason the WNBA only became a thing 5 years ago, when technically it existed since 1996. And that thing is star-power. Personally I never knew the WNBA existed, until Kaitlyn Clark became a celebrity.

I could drop it back to just the logo and community name to claim the space, then we could add to those parts after. But it also seemed more efficient to just make pixels the colour we want at the start instead of having to re-do them for new pieces over the top?

'Not Even Trying to Hide Their Brazen Corruption': Trump Sons Set to Profit From Tungsten Mining Deal

A bombshell New York Times report detailing how President Donald Trump’s eldest sons stand to profit from a tungsten mining deal negotiated by their billionaire father sparked outraged calls for accountability on Monday, with Democratic lawmakers characterizing the taxpayer-funded project as yet another example of the administration’s unchecked and unprecedented corruption. “You will not believe it until you see it laid out,” US Rep. Mike Levin (D-Calif.) wrote in response to the Times story published over the weekend. According to the newspaper, Trump and his team—including billionaire Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick—“won an agreement from the Kazakh leader to give a little-known American company access to one of the world’s largest untapped reserves of tungsten, a metal that the United States desperately needs for the production of missile warheads, fighter jets, computer chips, and other critical goods.” Ahead of the deal’s completion last September, according to the Times, the Trump administration “approved preliminary applications for as much as $1.6 billion in federal financing for the American company, now called Kaz Resources, which plans to break ground on the project in rural Kazakhstan.” Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., along with Lutnick’s sons Brandon and Kyle, are poised to benefit from the project. “Within weeks of the St. Regis negotiations, investors with a firm called Dominari Securities, which is housed at Trump Tower in New York and partly owned by the president’s two eldest sons… joined with other partners to take a 20% stake in a corporate entity related to the Kazakhstan project,” the Times reported. “We’ve seen 300,000 Georgians lose health coverage in the last six months because they couldn’t find room in the budget for health insurance. But they’ve got room in the budget for a tungsten mine overseas, controlled in part by Prince Don and Prince Eric,” Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) said in an MS NOW appearance late Monday. Trump’s family has profited massively from his return to the White House, thanks in a large part to a crypto scheme spearheaded by the president’s eldest sons. There is a big difference in the two. The warrior is willing to put his well-being on the line for those he loves or for those under his protection. Many times, he puts their well being ahead of his own. He could easily defend himself and leave the danger behind, but he chooses the path of chivalry and warriorship. He knows there is a difference between self-defense and warriorship, and he also knows that the lifestyle that he has chosen demands that he put his warrior ideals over simple self-interest. His job on the stand was to convince the jury of two things: that Antifa is a real, organized terrorist enterprise, and that these eight belonged to it. That task was complicated by the fact that the defendants had never actually called themselves Antifa… Shideler was baptized into this worldview on the job. By his own account on the stand, he “lived over my parents’ garage for a little while” after college, took a job as a news director at a radio station “for a short period,” and did “some blogging and writing” before being recruited by Stand With Us, the Los Angeles pro-Israel group, where he was responsible for “managing their database of extremist groups and individuals.” From there he went to the Endowment for Middle East Truth, a foreign-policy nonprofit that bills itself as operating “from an unabashedly pro-America and pro-Israel stance,” where he studied Islamic movements “with a particular emphasis on the Muslim Brotherhood.” In 2014 he was hired at the Center for Security Policy, the Frank Gaffney–founded think tank best known for promoting the Iraq War and claiming “Sharia law” is the leading domestic threat to the United States. He left for a stint at the Middle East Forum — a Philadelphia outfit whose stated mission is to “protect Western civilization from the threat of Islamism” — then returned to the Center in 2020, where he now directs Homeland Security and Counterterrorism research, which as far as I can tell means tracking left-wing Americans. Under cross-examination, Shideler acknowledged he had authored an article on combating far-left extremism whose subtitle, a defense lawyer pointed out, was “A Roadmap for the Trump Administration.” It ran in The American Mind, a publication of the conservative Claremont Institute. He conceded his work isn’t peer-reviewed and rests on “open source research” — material one can “find on the internet” — which, he agreed, carries “both false information and true information.” Somehow, some way, Shideler ended up being the Justice Department’s expert witness to explain “Antifa” and the grave threat it poses…

Smotrich Condemned for Plan to 'Illegally Seize' Gaza After Calling for Israel to ‘Complete the Conquest’ and Build Settlements

Israel’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “complete the conquest” of Gaza on Monday and send Israeli settlers to colonize the territory. “We are prepared to establish three settlements in the northern perimeter immediately, the moment we receive the green light from the prime minister and the minister of defense,” Smotrich said in a video filmed from the city of Sderot, which sits less than a mile from the wall separating the Gaza Strip from Israel. Smotrich claimed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) currently “[hold] nearly 70% of the Gaza Strip.” “We must complete the conquest of the remaining 30%,” he said, adding that they need to “defeat Hamas and above all we need to establish a belt of Jewish settlements within the territory of the Strip as a protective border for Sderot and all the communities of the Gaza envelope.” Smotrich, who has overseen the rapid, violent acceleration of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank—considered illegal under international law—has been quite blatant about his desire to expand settlements into Gaza as well, reversing Israel’s withdrawal of settlers from the territory in 2005. At a settlements conference last year, he said that “Gaza will be totally destroyed" and that its residents would be “concentrated” in a narrow southern strip while the rest of the territory “will be empty.” He celebrated that Gazans would become “totally despairing” and seek “relocation” elsewhere, allowing Jewish Israelis to move in. As the movement of settlers into the West Bank has ramped up, along with the destruction of Palestinian homes, Smotrich has said that the use of settlements to carve up the West Bank was “killing the idea of the Palestinian state.” Netanyahu has never said explicitly that he wants to resettle Gaza, but he did say last month, during a speech at an illegal West Bank settlement, that he’d ordered the military to seize 70% of Gaza in violation of the boundaries drawn up under last year’s ceasefire agreement, which put Israel in temporary control of about 53% of the territory. The peace plan laid out by US President Donald Trump, backed by a United Nations Security Council resolution, which underpins the ceasefire signed in October, states explicitly that “Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza.” The Resistance Committees in Palestine, a collection of armed groups in Gaza working closely with Hamas, described Smotrich’s call to build settlements in the strip a “dangerous criminal escalation” and a “fully-fledged war crime” in a statement on Tuesday. Tarifvertragsgesetz: Wie ein einzelner Paragraf Deutschland destabilisiert

Das Vertrauen in die deutschen Parteien hat historische Tiefststände erreicht, erstmals zweifelt eine Mehrheit an der Demokratie (Körber-Stiftung 2025 & Körber-Stiftung 2023). In aktuellen Sonntagsfragen liegt die AfD auf Platz eins. Im selben Land gilt jeder fünfte Mensch als einkommensarm, schwer materiell benachteiligt oder lebt in einem Haushalt, in dem kaum jemand erwerbstätig ist (Destatis Gesellschaft 2025) – die EU fasst das unter dem Begriff AROPE (At Risk Of Poverty or Social Exclusion) und hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, diese Zahl europaweit bis 2030 um mindestens 15 Millionen Menschen zu senken. In der öffentlichen Debatte werden diese Befunde meist getrennt verhandelt: Der Aufstieg der AfD als Kulturkonflikt, das sinkende Demokratievertrauen als Kommunikationsproblem, die Armutsgefährdung als Sozialpolitik. Dabei beschreiben sie einen einzigen Zusammenhang. Dieser Zusammenhang beginnt nicht bei Migration oder Wokeness – er beginnt bei einem Paragrafen aus dem Jahr 1969. Populismus, Ungleichheit und Zugehörigkeitsgefühl Dass Populismus und Ungleichheit zusammenhängen, ist international gut belegt (Proaño/Peña/Saalfeld 2022). Für Deutschland erzählt das aber nur die halbe Geschichte: Die gemessene Einkommensungleichheit war zwischen 2005 und 2019 annähernd stabil (Wirtschaftsdienst 2024). Was die AfD wirklich angetrieben hat, zeigen Längsschnittdaten des WSI, die Andreas Hövermann bis kurz nach der letzten Bundestagswahl untersucht hat (WSI-Study Nr. 42, 2025). Größter Verstärker ist demnach das Benachteiligungsgefühl: „Ich bekomme nicht das, was mir zusteht und andere bekommen mehr.” Der psychologische Kern ist nicht Wut, sondern Zugehörigkeitsverlust (Manunta et al. 2024/25) und politischer Entfremdung; für Deutschland belegt Steffen Mau dasselbe (Triggerpunkte, 2023). Die direkteste Verbindung zur Arbeitswelt liefern Kohlrausch, Hövermann und Meuleman (Wie Arbeit die Demokratie formt; 2024) in einer Befragung von rund 15.000 Erwerbstätigen in zehn EU-Ländern: Fehlende Mitsprache und schlechte Arbeitsbedingungen hängen direkt mit Demokratiedistanz zusammen. Pfeifer (Leuphana Universität Lüneburg) belegt: Betriebsräte stärken die Akzeptanz des politischen Systems – besonders in Ostdeutschland, wo beides unterentwickelt ist. Betriebsräte wiederum entstehen dort, wo Tarifverträge gelten. Fehlende Mitsprache hat also eine institutionelle Adresse: § 5 Tarifvertragsgesetz. Die institutionelle Anomalie Von knapp 90.000 gültigen Tarifverträgen in Deutschland sind laut BMAS-Tarifregister 2024 gerade einmal 233 allgemeinverbindlich erklärt. Die Tarifbindungsquote liegt laut WSI/IAB-Betriebspanel 2026 bei 49 Prozent – das Schlusslicht der westeuropäischen Vergleichsgruppe. Frankreich kommt auf 80 bis 95 Prozent, Österreich auf nahezu 100 Prozent, Spanien auf 92 Prozent, die Niederlande und Finnland auf 72 bis 89 Prozent (OECD/AIAS ICTWSS, Version 2.0, September 2025). Der Mechanismus heißt § 5 Tarifvertragsgesetz. Soll ein Tarifvertrag auf eine gesamte Branche ausgedehnt werden, braucht es die Allgemeinverbindlicherklärung (AVE). Das Bundesarbeitsministerium entscheidet nicht allein. Ein Ausschuss, der je zur Hälfte mit Arbeitgeber- und Arbeitnehmervertretern besetzt ist, muss im Einvernehmen zustimmen. Verweigert eine Seite die Zustimmung, scheitert die Erstreckung. Im Ausschuss sitzt die Bundesvereinigung der Deutschen Arbeitgeberverbände (BDA) als branchenübergreifender Dachverband und kann Erstreckungen auch in Branchen blockieren, in denen sie selbst nicht verhandelt. Günther und Höpner zeigen in Economic and Industrial Democracy auf: Diese Konstruktion ist in der gesamten EU einmalig. In jedem anderen Mitgliedstaat entscheiden Arbeitsministerien oder unparteiische Kommissionen allein. Was das konkret bedeutet Der Lohnkanal ist direkt messbar. Laut DGB-Tarifflucht-Bilanz vom September 2025 verdienen Beschäftigte ohne Tarifvertrag im Schnitt 2.891 Euro netto weniger pro Jahr als Tarifbeschäftigte – im Osten sind es 3.451 Euro. Das drückt Menschen unter die 60-Prozent-Schwelle des nationalen Medianeinkommens, also in relatives Einkommensarmuts-Risiko. Niedriglohn erzeugt zudem Teilzeitfallen, besonders bei Frauen. Fehlende Erwerbsintensität im Haushalt ist das zweite AROPE-Kriterium. Deutschland liegt mit einer Niedriglohnquote von 19 Prozent weit über dem EU-Schnitt von 14,7 Prozent – obwohl es die größte Volkswirtschaft der EU ist. Der Grund ist nicht das Lohnniveau. Gerhard Bosch wies schon 2015 für EU-Länder eine starke negative Korrelation zwischen Tarifbindungsgrad und Niedriglohnanteil nach – Tarifbindung ist dabei wirksamer als ein gesetzlicher Mindestlohn (International Labour Review, 2015). Das Brüsseler Forschungsinstitut Bruegel bestätigte 2023 denselben Zusammenhang für Einkommensungleichheit insgesamt (Darvas/Gotti/Sekut, Analysis 04/2023). Meine eigene Auswertung für 16 europäische Länder ergibt: Je zehn Prozentpunkte höhere Tarifbindung entsprechen rechnerisch zwei Prozentpunkten weniger Niedriglohn (OECD/AIAS ICTWSS; Eurostat SES 2022). Der Sachzwang hat eine Adresse: § 5 Tarifvertragsgesetz. Armut, Tarifbindung und die EU-Ziele Die EU hat sich wie eingangs erwähnt das Ziel gesetzt, die Zahl der armuts- oder ausgrenzungsgefährdeten Menschen bis 2030 um mindestens 15 Millionen zu senken, ein Ziel, das die Bundesregierung 2022 in Brüssel selbst mitgetragen hat. Den direkten Hebel dafür sieht die EU in der Tarifbindung: Länder mit hoher Tarifbindung haben nachweislich weniger Niedriglöhner, weniger Lohnungleichheit und niedrigere Armutsquoten. Die 80-Prozent-Schwelle ist der empirische Richtwert, ab dem dieser Effekt zuverlässig greift – Frankreich, Österreich und Finnland liegen alle darüber und alle deutlich unter dem deutschen Niedriglohnniveau. Wer unter 80 Prozent liegt, hat strukturell zu viele Beschäftigte ohne kollektiven Lohnschutz. Die EU-Mindestlohnrichtlinie verpflichtet daher alle Mitgliedstaaten unter dieser Schwelle, einen konkreten Aktionsplan vorzulegen. Er ist kein bürokratisches Instrument, sondern die Nahtstelle zwischen Tarifbindung und Armutsziel, zwischen § 5 TVG und AROPE. Deutschland, als größte Volkswirtschaft der EU, hätte diesen Plan bis zum 15. November 2024 vorlegen müssen. Die Frist verstrich, die Kommission mahnte, der DGB mahnte, das Kabinett vertagte. Inzwischen haben zwölf der neunzehn verpflichteten Staaten einen Plan vorgelegt (WSI, Juni 2026). Deutschland fehlt, gemeinsam mit den deutlich kleineren Volkswirtschaften Luxemburg, Kroati en, Slowenien, Ungarn und Zypern. Seit Ende 2025 ist dieses politische Willensproblem auch ein Rechtsproblem. Am 11. November 2025 bestätigte der EuGH (C-19/23): Länder mit einer Tarifbindungsquote unter 80 Prozent müssen einen nationalen Aktionsplan zur Stärkung der Tarifbindung vorlegen. Laut DGB-Vorstandsmitglied Stefan Körzell wurde der Plan zum vierten Mal von der Kabinettsagenda genommen – auf Drängen von Wirtschaftsministerin Katherina Reiche (CDU). Das BMAS teilt mit, der Plan werde „innerhalb der Bundesregierung weiterhin abgestimmt“. Klagt die EU-Kommission, kann sie bereits mit der ersten Klage Strafzahlungen beantragen. Die Sanktionshöhe koppelt die Kommission ans BIP – als größte EU-Volkswirtschaft träfe Deutschland die höchsten Beträge: Pauschalzahlungen im zweistelligen bis niedrigen dreistelligen Millionenbereich sind realistisch, dazu täglich anfallende Zwangsgelder. Wer den Aktionsplan verweigert, blockiert damit zugleich die einzige strukturelle Maßnahme, mit der Deutschland dem in Brüssel 2022 zugesagten Ziel zur Verringerung der Armut näherkommen könnte. Dreimal diagnostiziert, nie behoben Das Bemerkenswerteste ist, dass der Staat dieses Versagen dreimal erkannt hat: 2014 in der Begründung eines Gesetzes, das § 5 TVG unverändert ließ; 2015 durch die Einführung eines Mindestlohns als Ersatz für einen dysfunktionalen Tarifmechanismus; und 2026 durch das Eingeständnis, dass alle Reformen die Tarifbindung nicht stabilisieren konnten. 2014 verabschiedete der Bundestag das Tarifautonomiestärkungsgesetz. In der Begründung stand ausdrücklich: „Das Einvernehmensprinzip des § 5 TVG wirke zu restriktiv und blockiere die Allgemeinverbindlicherklärung faktisch.“ Das Problem war amtlich diagnostiziert. Die Therapie blieb aus: § 5 TVG wurde unverändert beibehalten. 2015 folgte das Mindestlohngesetz. Es ersetzte durch staatliche Setzung, was der Tarifmechanismus nicht länger leistete. Wer einen gesetzlichen Mindestlohn einführt, weil kollektive Lohnverhandlungen dysfunktional geworden sind, hat das strukturelle Scheitern des eigenen Verfahrens amtlich dokumentiert. Das Mindestlohngesetz ist kein Werkzeug zur Stärkung der Tarifautonomie – es ist deren Nachruf. Seither ist die Tarifbindung weiter gesunken. 2026 wiederholte sich das Muster ein drittes Mal: Der Bundestag verabschiedete das Tariftreuegesetz – Unternehmen, die Bundesaufträge ausführen, müssen ihren Beschäftigten künftig tarifvertragliche Bedingungen gewähren.
