Some people can think in 7 dimensions at once, or so they say. For those of us who struggle to even contemplate a hypercube, we may not even begin to realize how impressive that must be. Then again, that is only one form of IQ, and EQ is still entirely separate. Still, how could an eagle even begin to describe to a turtle what life is like? Not that an eagle is “better” and a turtle “worse”, but despite coinhabiting the same “world” as in physical space, they do experience that world according to SUCH different criteria that they essentially live in separate realities, like different dimensions of that “world”. As you said. Similarly in the USA, a white person can call out to a police officer and have some expectation of receiving immediate help, whereas a black person might get the literal opposite of help if they tried the same action. Rich or beautiful people likewise receive differential treatment - the same location, the same experiences, but received against a backdrop of a different lifestyle. Getting fired, or divorced, may just be laughed off by those who would be “set free” by such, vs. someone for whom that is their last thread. It is “the same”… yet so very, Very, VERY different! The tortise and the eagle, or the hare. The irony there is that mathematics is pretty much the one universal constant. English, or French, or other languages may vary in their interpretation, and even Logic itself becomes subsumed by mere Justification in human hands. Even programming languages differ - identical syntax may be interpreted differently by C, C++, Java, etc. - though it does come fairly close when you specify all of the code, the language, and the receiving device, which together deterministically implements the mathematical instructions via the flow of electrons in the physical world. Math made real - pattern becomes substance (or something else even cooler-sounding, I dunno:-P). Speaking of I have not read a Satanic one - surely there must be more than one type? - but I would give it a chance if I ever came across it. There’s a lot to like there. Also a lot I do not like, but that is the same with literally everything. Not quite the same thing, but on a related note: most pagan religions “lost” the war against Christianity, which I feel like gives the latter some credence. Although… ofc it is not that Christianity “won”, so much as that they “lost” - a HUGE distinction. Perhaps Christianity will lose someday as well… or maybe Jesus is a space/reality alien and when the energy beings come to enslave the human race, those of us who follow it will have been more properly prepared to serve the new overlords? (after all, if Might makes Right, especially for a being - like the owner of The Matrix - who literally can MAKE a Universe, then they do get to call the shots, whether we like it or not) Yeah, that’s pretty out there, so I will bring us back to: who knows, really? Nobody, at least not perfectly, though we try to do the best we can, as far as we know at the time. I do not believe in wasted time either… although just try telling that to a boss! Those with more authoritarian mindsets are not capable of accepting this aspect of the Universe, and I concede too that there must be a Balance. So wtf does that even mean - that it both is a waste of time, yet that waste was itself not a waste!? Yes. You get me. It is a contradiction, and within that paradox lies such beauty as to take our breaths away. Yin and Yang - not one or the other, but fucking both, always and never not that. You also have a beautiful perspective on abusers: sometimes they do not mean it, sometimes they do but are not “evil”, sometimes they are but… so what? We still gotta roll how we want to, not just always react to however others want, or even not want, us to. We chase after our goals, and they do whatever little thing they want, and we need not even break our stride as we press onwards. This point was REALLY driven home for me HARD when Trump won the 2016 election. Conservatives just did not give two fucks about “him”, but they liked what he could do for them… it was quite strategic. Raw. Naked. Bleeding. Evil incarnate… and therefore beautiful for all of that? Like that movie Haunting of Hill House: a darkness that shines as bright as the stars themselves - and all the more deadly as a result of that. Jon Stewart tried to warn us, he foresaw that and said how “liberal media aims to be correct, but conservative media aims to be effective”. This is why I have lost faith in democracy: it depends on presuppositions, specifically that the voting citizenry are aiming to vote correctly, and that errors are distributed randomly; however it is vulnerable to an outside attack that cause all the errors to bend in a single direction: towards the will of the evil ones (whoever they may be - Putin, Bezos, Musk, and others who prefer to hide deeper in the shadows). Oh well. Like everything else: I will enjoy it while I can. But anyway, you were speaking of smaller-scale abuses, like a turtle crying over something to another turtle, never realizing that e.g. taking a long time to speak could be agonizing to an eagle (or the analogy works far better in reverse:-D). Many people do not realize it. Many others do realize it but do not care:-(. Some even realize it, care, and enjoy it:-|!? But if you get overwhelmed, you cannot help anyone else, least of all yourself, so yeah, guard your heart, most definitely. Literall nobody else can do it for you (well, they can help though:-). I want to share with you a phrase that I have always hated: “If you see yourself in others, whom can you harm?” Whoever invented that must have had two loving parents, and can just fuck right off as far as I am concerned for rubbing that in the faces of those of us who did not. Setting that aside, part-way, even if you gave zero thought to your own welfare and cared exclusively for others, you STILL need to take care of yourself, or you will not be able to do that! (for very long) YOU ARE A PEOPLE TOO!!! I really like how the Bible portrays that: “the measuring procedure that you use to levy judgement upon others is the identical process by which you will use to judge yourself”. People either suck, in which case you do, or they are worthwhile, in which case… say it with me… you are worthwhile too:-P. I have fought against this every hour of every day of my entire life, but it is True nonetheless. I HATE that thought… but I can’t fight physics, or in this case the more relevant part is that it is just how human psychology works. I do not know much, but this is one that I do feel certain about, and I hope sharing these thoughts help you too (and by extension, perhaps me as well?:-P). I am glad that you are going through such a time of change, to be able to get frissons!:-) I have been closing off so much lately that it will take some time to open up again:-(. But that too… is not a waste of time (except it is, but even so - it is what must be:-). I almost wonder why he says “I’m sorry”, b/c it is the Right thing to do, though I get that he does feel guilt for it too, but still there is that nagging thought: is that a slight admission of doubt, that he is not entirely certain that it is the correct path? And like, he could have said “I need to choose Me”, but instead he chose the other wording… so I wonder, what does that mean? I am probably over-thinking it, and quite frankly the intricacies hardly matter, b/c the main thing is what it means to you. I am SOOO glad that it gives you peace - b/c yes gurl you NEED to get that!:-) About me saying that I accomplish Mastery of my Mind, I wanted to be sure that I conveyed that I feel like I cannot win when it becomes a “struggle” - even at best if one side or the other were to totally conquer the opponent, then I overall would lose. So by “giving in to my desires”, I mean not fighting it, nor letting it win either, but striving to achieve that Yin/Yang balance of winning when and where most needs to happen at each given moment, the trick being to find what that is. Some things I have practiced enough to have a really good idea of precisely where that line is, while other things I severely struggle on a daily basis to even identify the factors involved. As I suspect we all do, at least those of us who allow ourselves to remain open to adventure rather than falling prey to stagnation. Hehe, this music is good for other reasons too:-D.

I find it much more straightforward than 531. It’s better written and explained so there’s really no questions or trying to reverse engineer anything. The templates themselves are very simple, pick one strength and one cardio and they mesh together Stolen from the author: The Tactical Barbell books fall into two categories – foundational and specialty programs. FOUNDATIONAL BOOKS Tactical Barbell I: Strength TBI contains all of the main lifting templates (Operator/Zulu/Fighter), along with the universally hated strength-endurance (SE) programming. Templates come in 2,3, & 4 day versions. TBI will build strength, size, and muscular-endurance. Tactical Barbell II: Conditioning You have a plan when it comes to lifting. Why would you treat conditioning any differently? Most people understand the importance of systematic strength training, but when it comes to conditioning or cardiovascular training, they tend to perform random workouts without any sort of progression or objective. TBII will teach you how to systemize and progress conditioning in alignment with your goals. It includes Base Building along with the Black and Green Continuation protocols. Black protocols focus on speed, power, and metcon style training. Green protocols emphasize endurance. How It Works: Pick a strength template from TBI. Combine it with a conditioning template from TBII. Customize as needed within the given parameters. Your particular combination will be determined by your goals, schedule, and preferences. Before you start your program, it’s recommended you complete an 8 week Base Building block. Base Building is a general preparation phase, like basic training. It’ll install a minimal level of cardiovascular fitness, while priming your muscles, joints, and connective tissue for the substantive TB programming. Both books can also be used standalone. Already have a lifting program? Add TBII to develop extreme work capacity and enhance body composition. Alternatively, if you’re just looking to incorporate strength training alongside your existing sport or unit PT, use TBI. For example, most distance runners and combat athletes already do sport-specific conditioning but would benefit immensely from the right kind of strength training. Adding Fighter or a minimalist Zulu template would level-up their game significantly without interfering with their primary activity. SPECIALTY BOOKS The specialty books are for those that want immersion or more detail in particular aspects of the Tactical Barbell ecosystem. Green Protocol: the term ‘Green Protocol’ is used in the TB system to describe any conditioning program that emphasizes endurance. There are many Green protocols. A 50k running plan is considered a Green protocol, same with a triathlon program, or training for a mountaineering expedition. This particular book is a Green protocol designed specifically for combat-arms military, tactical law enforcement, and other ‘long-range’ occupations like SAR and woodland firefighting. GP is a set of step-by-step templates that build on each other. It covers both pre- and post selection training. The framework is a little more rigid than what you’ll find in TBI & II because the objective is fairly specific. That said, as with all TB programs, there’s room for customization within the provided parameters. GP is completely standalone and can be used with or without TBI & II. GP has been successfully used to prepare for special operations selection, tactical law enforcement, ruck based events, and even ultramarathons. Mass Protocol: as the name suggests this book is designed for bulking or tightly focused muscle building phases. Hypertrophy is the primary objective, but as is typically the case, strength will also increase as a by-product. If putting on size is at the top of your priority list, MP will be of interest to you. MP is standalone and includes it’s own Base and Conditioning protocols. It’ll also teach you how to incorporate mass building blocks in your regular TB training. Physical Preparation for Law Enforcement: PPLE is academy prep for police candidates. Turn your brain off and follow the step-by-step daily programming leading up to your start date. This will free you up to work on other important aspects of academy prep. PPLE starts with a general strength & conditioning phase and then tapers into a specificity block. It’ll prepare you for entry level PT testing, the academy, and beyond. This is a standalone program. Ageless Athlete: written by Jim Madden, PhD and IBJJ World Champion. Jim is an experienced and knowledgeable athlete, with the ability to teach and convey information that is second to none. If you’re an older (55+) masters athlete, AA will teach you how to modify the Tactical Barbell system to work around your unique challenges. Recovery management and intelligent progression become key at this stage of the game. AA is technically not standalone, as it doesn’t contain conditioning sessions. Google Jim Madden fitness to reach him/explore his approach to training. Got It, So Where Do I Start? Start with the foundational books, Tactical Barbell I and II. Just one, or both, as needed. Branch out to the specialty programs later if desired. There are exceptions which will be discussed below. I’ve Read TBI & II - Which Protocol Do I Go With? Base Building followed by Operator/Black or Zulu/Black for the remainder of the year. This is the standard program for those that want to reach advanced levels of concurrent fitness. Note- Base Building can also be done twice a year, at the beginning and middle of a training cycle. What Kind of Results Can I Expect? To give you some rough parameters the standard program is designed to get you into (or near) the 1000lb club, with a 5km run in the low 20s or below, a sub 10 minute 1.5 mile, and 15+ pull-ups. These numbers reflect desirable concurrent strength, strength-endurance, and cardiovascular benchmarks. Take the numbers with a grain of salt - everyone is different/will make different programming choices/and have varying levels of adherence. Aesthetically speaking, your body composition will reflect your function, provided your diet is sensible and sufficient to fuel your performance. In other words, you’ll look pretty damn good if you eat enough and avoid stuffing your face with cake and cookies all day. What About the Other Templates/Protocols? If your goals fall outside the standard recommendation – or you’re a specialist - use the template/protocol that fits best. If you’re a busy professional with limited time, consider a 4 day Fighter/Black Protocol – a minimal investment with an outstanding return. Specialists can supplement regular training with isolated pieces of TB to shore up deficiencies. For example, if you’re a boxer looking to incorporate sustainable/effective strength training, add Fighter or Fighter/Bangkok to your regular routine. If you’re a competitive powerlifter or strongman, keep your lifting program but add a 2-day Black Protocol and/or annual Base Building to boost work capacity/conditioning. EXCEPTIONS For concurrent strength and endurance based conditioning, you can start immediately with Green Protocol (the book). Green will get you into or near the 1000lb club, along with the ability to run/ruck marathon/ultramarathon distances. Start with Green Protocol (the book) if you have your sights set on a career in special operations, tactical law enforcement, or other endurance-heavy/load bearing roles. GP covers both selection prep and post-selection team fitness. If you’re getting ready for police academy and want to get fit without having to fiddle around with any programming yourself, use PPLE. Return to the foundational programs after you graduate. One of the strengths of the TB system is that all of the templates/protocols can be used over a lifetime as your goals evolve, in a near infinite number of combinations. You might start the year with Mass Protocol then taper into Op/Black for a few months. When summer rolls around maybe you decide to train for a trail race – transition to the Velocity template in Green Protocol. Finish the year up with another Mass block. Reset and start a new training cycle with traditional Base Building. None of your TB programs will ever go to waste, regardless of which way you pivot.

Using Immich in combination with NAS permissions

Preface I got excited and didn’t properly read your post before I wrote out a huge reply. I thought your problem was the per-user mapping to different locations on your NAS or to different shares, but its specifically file ownership. whoops. Leaving this here anyways, in case someone finds it helpful. I kinda address file ownership at the end, but I don’t think its really what you were looking for because it depends on every user having their own share. Prerequisites you need to be using Storage Templates. you’re willing to change the storage labels for all existing users if not, then change the storage labels for all users to something temporary and run the migration job before you begin. You’ll change it back later. you’re willing to switch to NFS instead of samba, where each user gets their own share. might not actually be necessary, but its what I use, so YMMV Configuration Volumes In docker, you’ll need to set up an external NFS volume for every user. I use portainer to manage my docker stacks, and its pretty easy to set up NFS volumes. I’m not sure how to do it with raw docker, but I dont think its complicated. Compose in your docker compose files, include something like this services: immich-server: # ... volumes: - ${UPLOAD_LOCATION}:/data - /etc/localtime:/etc/localtime:ro - type: volume source: user1-share target: /data/library/user1-intended-storage-label volume: subpath: path/to/photos/in/user1/share - type: volume source: user2-share target: /data/library/user2-intended-storage-label volume: subpath: path/to/photos/in/user2/share # and so on for every user # ... volumes: model-cache: user1-share: external: true user2-share: external: true # and so on for every user There are 3 things about this setup: it does not scale automatically. this is fine as long as you don’t intend to be adding/removing users often. it is only saving the photos and videos. all thumbnails and transcoded videos, etc, get saved to ${UPLOAD_LOCATION}. For me this is fine, I dont want to pollute my NAS with a bunch of transient data, but if you want that info then for every user, in addition to the target: /data/library/user1 target you’ll also need a target: /data/thumbs/user1, target: /data/encoded-video/user1, etc. If there is already data at the target, when you mount this volume it will mask that data. This is why it is important that no users exist with that storage label prior to this change, else that data will get hidden. You may also want to add similar volumes for external libraries (I gave every user an external “archive” library for their old photos) like this: - type: volume source: user1-share target: /unique/path/to/this/users/archive volume: subpath: path/to/photo/archive/on/share and then you’ll need to go and add that target as an external library in the admin setup. and once immich allows sharing external libraries (or turning external libraries into sharable albums) I’ll also include a volume for a shared archive. Migrate redeploy, change your user storage labels to match the targets, and run the migration job (or create the users with matching storage labels). File ownership I honestly don’t think its important, as long as your user has full access to the files, its fine. But if you insist then you have a separate share for every user and set up the NFS server for that share to squash all to that share’s user. Its a little less secure, but you’ll only be allowing requests from that single IP, and there will only be a request from a single user from that server anyways. Synology unfortunately doesn’t support this, they only allow squashing to admin or guest (or disable squashing).

I have template iptables/nftables rules on my devices on the network that I can just copy and paste to a machine to have a firewall that works (with tweaks specific to that device). With it I can tell it to send all logs of my choice through syslog-ng to my server just by installing it and telling it the destination, allowing me to have (already made) alerts and dashboards on every device on my internal network. My router runs Linux (openwrt) and allows me to do something other routers can’t do because I’m able to add a module into the kernel: permit switch-level firewall access. What this means is I don’t need (but do still have) VLAN to restrict traffic between devices. I can block firewall access completely at the router level before a device is tweaked to also add additional security (e.g. helps prevent my smart tv from probing every device on my network to gather information. Or if I purchase a malicious hardware online, it won’t know the rest of the network exists because the router doesn’t tell it unless I say it’s okay). That’s firewall stuff. System security: can compile and modify the kernel to just the modules and such I want, lowering the scope of issues from a kernel level vulnerability. I can be very granular with file and directory permissions with a single command in the terminal. I can easily track file metadata changes down to just about anything you can think of with simple tools, like aide. Python scripts through cron and inotify can help me monitor when something sus happens on my machines. Most of all this being done on Windows or Mac would require extra effort to work correctly, and not to mention probably cost money for software that can do the same but isn’t free. Also not entirely sure a router can be setup on either of those OS.

I think how I feel about collecting hobbies depends immensely on what is being collected and how it is used. If someone is collecting old books and actually reading them, then even if they buy $10,000 books, as long as they aren’t trying to show it off on the basis of price - I have zero issue with such a thing. Like it’s fine if they want to show off that the book is really rare, explain why it’s rare, how hard if was to find, what’s special about it, etc. And then if as a result of that I can infer it must have been expensive, I’m not grossed out. But if they come at from the angle of “this book is 10 grand and that’s why you should be impressed by it and transitively be impressed by me”, that’s nasty and pisses me off. I don’t think there’s anything intrinsically wrong with collection-based hobbies, although I do think that in general they are not really impressive hobbies and should not be misinterpreted as a skill or something to be “proud of”. But I think this is just a conflation being made because the word “hobby” does too much double duty nowadays. We use it to describe things that are simple, as well as things that are complex; impressive and unimpressive, skilled and unskilled, creative and consumption. “Hobby” usually just means literally anything I regularly do that isn’t required of me. And as a result it carries baggage from it’s various applications in between themselves, like using the same spoon for your curry and your soup and your ice cream. If we taboo that word, then I think people collecting things is freed from hobby-connotations like: “this is something for me to be proud of” “this is something that makes me an impressive person” “this is something that demonstrates a skill or ability beyond that of the uninitiated” And we can see collecting for what it is: nothing more than liking a thing, and wanting to have it around to admire/contemplate/use. I think collecting can be a very respectable demonstration of someone understanding what is important to themselves, and in being able to take joy in simple things or the same things over and over. The dark side of collection is obviously hoarding, void-filling, status-signaling, addictive behavior. But the light-side of it is cherishing things that being you joy, putting them somewhere where you regularly appreciate and protect them, sharing that joy with others. It can be very humble, vulnerable, and in fact can be very anti consumerist/hoarding/void-filling/status-signaling. Like anything, I think it’s all in the way it’s done. But I don’t think you need to be working on something or demonstrating a skill with it, or producing something, in order for the collecting to be respectable.

A pact might fall short of the cast-iron, NATO-style defence guarantees the kingdom initially sought when the issue was first discussed between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Joe Biden during the U.S. president’s visit to Saudi Arabia in July 2022. Instead, a U.S. source said it could look like treaties Washington has with Asian states or, if that would not win U.S. Congress approval, it could be similar to a U.S. agreement with Bahrain, where the U.S. Navy Fifth Fleet is based. Such an agreement would not need congressional backing. Washington could also sweeten any deal by designating Saudi Arabia a Major Non-NATO Ally, a status already given to Israel, the U.S. source said. But all the sources said Saudi Arabia would not settle for less than binding assurances of U.S. protection if it faced attack, such as the Sept. 14, 2019 missile strikes on its oil sites that rattled world markets. Riyadh and Washington blamed Iran, the kingdom’s regional rival, although Tehran denied having a role. Agreements giving the world’s biggest oil exporter U.S. protection in return for normalisation with Israel would reshape the Middle East by bringing together two longtime foes and binding Riyadh to Washington after China’s inroads in the region. How do you come to terms with death?

This is exactly the kind of mindset I’ve been trying to adopt. Being able to see the deep interconnection in the world and seeing how everything is related in connection and change. Trying to apply it to myself has been difficult. Sometimes it feels like my body/mind fights back against this too, there are times when I’ve felt I’ve made progress on this, but then, somewhere in my brain, for some reason, i feel forced to contemplate specific organs of my body, such as my heart, and how that might feel to go out, and then the anxiety gets going, and then it feels like there’s actually some sharpness in the heart itself, and then I worry about dying and go down that rabbit hole.

The first Tuya devices contained ESP8266 microcontrollers and had a vulnerability that allowed users to just upload a different firmware. But at some point they started using some cheaper microcontrollers that aren’t as easy to program. So there is no custom firmware available for many/most of the recent devices. Beware if the supported devices repository says “soldering required” or “module needs to be replaced”. I don’t know why they do this, but it requires a hot air soldering station and proper soldering skills. Regarding Zigbee: I bought some Ikea stuff. The lightbulbs work fine. But I also had issues with the buttons.
