Don’t take it personally. They play Roblox after all.

I don’t believe these stereotypes are very accurate today. Do we have data? I’m failing to find more than anecdotes online. Why are 12yo hyping crypto? Is the average gaming culture that right-wing dominant, and why should it be so? Biggest games are roblox, Minecraft, and fortnite. It’s surely not CoD for this cohort. Minecraft in particular seems like it need not be conservative coded. Edit: I’ve found some evidence that this reverses causality; the manosphere targets this demographic with paid advertising. They know they can exploit a vulnerable population.

And then on top of the micro transactions there is the other problematic part with a social game marketed primarily to children.
A class action lawsuit has been filed against Roblox Corporation, accusing the developer of facilitating “an illegal gambling ecosystem” and violating a federal law. The complaint was signed by Chief Inspector Slowpoke
Intent makes a big difference. The value of Roblox as a platform and as a business is based on the work done by children to develop for it, and it was set up that way on purpose. They created an incentive model to encourage it. Nintendo’s value as a company is not based on kids creating Mario Maker levels, nor does Nintendo push kids to do so with the promise of earning money.
I was digging a little and just wanted to add a few links: https://www.themirror.space/ and https://github.com/the-mirror-gdp/the-mirror It looks like a competitor to both Roblox but also meta and vrchat, and even mindcraft. Vrchat is free i think, but they own the data. I see they’ve adapted the leading OS game engine, Godot, which also let’s our personal AI simulate the real world in real time. I wasn’t particularly happy with this roadmap tho: ‘(Future) Marketplace: Easily monetize your games, 3D models, audio assets, and more with one-time purchases or RevShare.’ It doesn’t take long to convert the project into some shitcoin ‘adventure’ where nothing is done without coin incentives and people behave like it’s all a business.
Personally, I want my kid to be able to buy a few things every now and then. Roblox got the axe for multiple reasons - mtx was only one aspect. He gets a vbuck or two with his allowance if he wants to earn them. It helps him get a healthy view of how little mtx are really worth, but a cosmetic here or there is kind of fun.
