Just how trump cosplays as a working class sympathiser, so did the nazis. They tapped into the popular sentiments at the time (socialism) and redirected them into blaming scapegoats (commies, disabled people, jews, gender and sexual minorities). It probably sounds quite familiar.

Electric cars are a very bad choice as an apocalyptic vehicle because they require a working power grid. If you have a reliable electrical connection, its not the apocalypse. A gas or diesel car or truck is a better choice because the fuel is a liquid. You can store, stockpile, and siphon it. The same cannot be done with electricity. But the value of a car is limited. You can escape a local crisis. But for anything widespread, there would be little benefit to high speed travel. Anywhere you go will still be the apocalypse. Build community. Work together with others locally. That’s how humans have survived throughout most of history and its a much better survival strategy than a mad max cosplay.

What fucking sucks is that they are criminalizing wearing KN-95s to protests in state laws because apparently they’re so dangerous while simultaneously saying that these guys need masks to protect themselves. Why the fuck do the cromagnons in office think I’m still wearing a KN-95? So I can cosplay Blade Runner at work? Because I am a duck furry and this is a subtle way of fursuiting? For the high fashion? Because I am taunting non-mask-wearers? NO, IT IS TO PROTECT MYSELF. aaaaaaAAAAAAA

I actually think a lot is the opposite. If you think an event like this, attended by the likes of Bezos and Musk, is countercultural, or even “brings positivity into the world”, I have a beautiful bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. Of course most Burners have jobs, it’s a techbro’s dream. Plus, tickets are more expensive than they were in the old days, so real hippies can’t go. If people want to laugh at the suffering of rich people who cosplay as revolutionary, I’m generally ok with that. One big caveat: I’m very sorry someone died, and I don’t think mocking that’s cool, especially if we don’t know anything about them.

I feel like a lot of people are missing the context that this was prompted by a Mario cosplayer sending inappropriate messages to a minor 😅 Nintendo is dogshit about their IP, but like I can’t really fault them for being upset that someone used the family friendly nature of one of their properties to facilitate an inappropriate interaction with a child. If I were Nintendo I’d be pretty unhappy about that too
