Pom Poko is a bitter sweet movie.

I had no real preconceived notions going into this film and watched it today with my youngest. Really fantastic stuff! By the end of the film I felt as mournful as the Tanuki are about the loss of their home. The balance between silly and fun antics with serious depictions of the harsh life of the Tanuki was well struck. I enjoyed the way the movie shifted the style of the tanuki as the tone shifted. Just a great film. Bitter because you feel for the loss of the tanuki’s forest, sweet because they manage to preserve some parts of their way of life despite the enclosure.

It’s about the size of a walnut in the shell. I got it with a bag of random rocks and tumbled it through four stages for about a month. The fact that it didn’t get very rounded off means it’s quite hard. It’s more green in real life with lots of neat transparent bits.

I just read the post you linked to to try and see the explanation for using secret blocklists… And it is just typical standard fascist arguments. Talking about how some communities are dangerous, calling users “petulant children” and just giving clear authoritarian talking points about how how the dev knows best. It is completely unhinged. Now, obviously, we all have come across communities and users that we prefer wasn’t a part of the feddiverse, that is fine, we are allowed to think that. However, you can’t go around and arbitrarily blocking users and communities for others, and especially not using a secret list.

Damascus (AFP) – UN chief Antonio Guterres on Saturday called for an end to Israeli violations in Syria and urged international support for the country’s transition on his first visit under the new authorities following years of civil war. Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from a UN-patrolled buffer zone on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, where they deployed in 2024 after the ouster of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad. Guterres is the first UN chief to visit Syria since his predecessor Ban Ki-moon in 2009, two years before the start of Syria’s war, which went on to kill more than half a million people before the new Islamist authorities took power. “We underscore the importance of fully respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity,” Guterres told a press conference. “Violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are unacceptable and must cease. What is happening in the region around the Golan Heights is totally unacceptable,” he said, adding: “I’d like to remind the international community that the Golan Heights are Syrian territory.” After Assad’s overthrow, Israel sent troops into the UN-patrolled buffer zone that separated Israeli and Syrian forces on the Golan for decades, and has carried out strikes and repeated incursions deeper into Syrian territory. New Delhi (AFP) – India’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday after mass youth-led protests demanded his ouster in anger over a string of irregularities in potentially life-changing exams. Thousands of young people gathered in the capital and in other parts of the country this week, under the banner of the social media-driven Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demanding an overhaul of the education system and Pradhan’s resignation. “I am pained to see the events of the past 10 days. This is not a matter of personal prestige for me,” Pradhan said in a statement posted on social media platform X. “I have sent my resignation letter to the prime minister,” Pradhan said in his letter in Hindi. The CJP said after Pradhan’s resignation that all their demands had been met in another round of talks and that they were calling off the protests that were centred on the Jantar Mantar demonstration site in central New Delhi. Police had fired tear gas and charged with batons at protesters as they tried to march from the site to parliament this week. The government held two rounds of talks with CJP leaders on Monday and Friday but little headway was made initially, with the youth-led movement sticking to their demands. Pradhan announced his resignation before the third round of talks. “India’s youth power is the real strength of this nation. My resolve is that we will not let the country’s youth get trapped in a vicious cycle of confusion,” he said. …

This logic doesn’t apply as the Streisand effect is when someone does something shitty, and then tries to cover it up and it leads to more people finding out about it leading to more people thinking what that person did was shitty. The Streisand effect does not equal all publicity is good publicity. Trump raping children and then covering it up is the Streisand effect. Saying trump raped children doesn’t promote Trump.
